“So I don’t have anything new actually planned for this week,” Goose admitted, since he had been distracted by both Walsh’s visit and not hearing anything definitive on how Ignis was and he was more worried than he wanted to admit.

He had decided to go through his old lesson plans and had found one from the last session that he thought would be an easy one to do again.

“Instead of continuing with simple machines this week, we’re going to be covering an activity I did for class class last semester, so we’re going doing the egg drop challenge and we’re going to be spending the lesson working on making containers for the eggs so we don’t break them,” he explained.

He had still not factored that he should have used hard boiled eggs so hopefully everyone’s challenges were successful otherwise it was going to end up rather messy.

“Good morning,” Goose began that week’s class, “so we’ve covered the pulley and the wheel and axel, this week our class is going to focus on the lever as our next simple machine,”

“The lever is a simple machine where a bar rotates around a fixed point fulcrum,” he explained, “a fulcrum is best described as the support for a bar,”

“There are three different types of levers,” he continued, “first, second and third class levers and the way that each one is classified is that they each have a different applied point - the effort, the load and the function,”

“Some examples of different levers are - pliers and scissors for first class levers, and going back to our lecture last week a wheelbarrow is also an example of a second class lever,” he added, “finally examples of a third class lever are barbecue tongues, a broom and a fishing rod,”

“For our practical today, we’re going to be looking at making levers,”

“Good morning,” Goose began, “this week we’re going to be looking at our next simple machine for this class and we’re going to have a look at the wheel and axel,”

“The wheel and axel is a component for a simple machine that amplifies force and is designed to create a mechanical advantage,” he explained, “and it is believed that the first wheel was a potter’s wheel and that it was first invented in Ancient Greece around 3500 BC in Mesopotamia,”

“Mechanical Advantage,” he continued, “is the measure in which a machine multiples the force put into it,” and it was here that Goose did hand out some notes to go into more depth on mechanical advantage.

“For our practical this week we’re going to be making a cardboard rubber band car,”

“Welcome back,” Goose said, he had been a bit a distracted after his conversation with Walsh on Sunday but this time he had least used that distraction to draw up a proper lesson plan to work on for his next class.

“For the next few weeks we're going to be looking at machines,” Goose explained, “a simple machine is a machine that can change the direction or magnitude of a force,” he started to go into a bit in depth as he talked about simple machines.

“There are six simple machines,” he continued, “the wheel and axle, the level, the inclined plane, the pulley, the screw, wedge and lever, this week we are going to be looking at pulleys,”

“For our practical assignment today I thought we would have a go at making a pulley,” Goose nodded as he handed out the instructions and indicated the range of materials they had to work on.

Goose had not prepared an actual first class since he had unexpectedly left to help fight in a resistance in another Galaxy and had gotten back late last night.

“Good morning,” he said softly, “we’re going to keep it rather simple this week and keep it to introductions,” he realised belatedly he only knew one of the students in his class this semester.

“I’m Shane Gooseman, I’m from West Australia in 2107 and I serve with the Series 5 Galaxy Rangers team where I do a lot of the mechanical maintenance,”

Where he was responsible for why said mechanical maintenance was needed but he wasn’t going to mention that.

“So I’d like to know your name, class, year you’re from and previous experience with engineering,” Goose said before nodding to the first student to begin with.

It was the last week of class and to the surprise of no one, Goose was not really prepared for the class at all.

He had considered a movie day but then he’d gone over his notes from previous classes and decided that finishing on machine drawing wasn’t that bad of an option so he decided to go with that for his class.

“Welcome back,” he said softly and then he looked rather sheepish, “so I don’t actually have anything prepared for your final lesson,” he admitted, “I thought we could take the time and go over machine drawing and then you can start using the techniques to do your own drawings,” he explained.

Goose wasn't feeling as bad as he been the last week and had actually made an effort to come up with a proper lesson plan.

He had even come up with a new topic to cover, which was something a bit different.

“Welcome back,” he said softly, “we're going to be doing something a bit different this week and we’re going to be covering lock picking and have a look at the mechanics inside a padlock before putting it back together again,” he explained.

Goose had been spending most of the week being rather sad and distracted and feeling generally awful from the weekend and in the process he had completely forgotten about his class on Thursday until this morning, he had very briefly decided to do a movie day but then he had found a class that he had used from the last session and decided to use it again.

Admittedly he had used it a couple of times now for his classes but it was at least an easy enough class for him to get together on such short notice for times when he forgot about his class.

Which also tended to happen a lot.

“Welcome back,” he said softly, “this week we’re going to take a look at strength of materials, which is a topic that has been covered before but a good way to test that theory is by making rubber band helicopters ,”

This week’s practical wasn’t even one that he had been planning but this was something that had caught his eye as something to try and it was quite possibly not the most practical of assignments to attempt to do but Goose was very interested in seeing how this challenge unfolded in class.

He also had not thought to bring hard boiled eggs in for the experiment to make it less messy but Goose barely thought things through at the best of times so it wasn’t really that much of a surprise that he had just brought in normal eggs to try instead.

“So this week we’re going to try something a bit different and experiment with eggs, and we’re going to be doing an activity called the egg drop challenge,” he explained as he motioned to the different options that were available to run the experiment, “what you need to do is design a craft that will protect the egg and then drop it from a distance,”

Goose really hadn’t this lesson through.

This week Goose had been a lot more prepared for classes and had actually written a lot more detailed lesson plan than before and had also spent more time making sure he had all the necessary components needed for the tutorial as well.

“So this week we’re going to be looking at making a Paper Shredder Machine,” he explained once class was ready to go that afternoon, “which is I find to be good example of electromechanical, engineering,” he added as he started to give a brief overview of what electromechanical engineering was before he turned the focus on the rest of the class on making the paper shredders.

In the space of a week Goose had completely forgotten about his class being on Thursday afternoon’s and remembered that morning he did in fact have class, so he quickly looked through his old notes and found a topic that he had done during the spring for his intro to mechanical engineering class and decided that he could work with that.

“Welcome back,” he said a little sheepishly as he showed up minutes before class started, luckily the practical he was going to have didn’t require a lot materials at all.

“This week we’re going to be experimenting with paper planes,” he announced, which he had done this class a few times but it was at least an easy way to demonstrate fluid mechanics.

It took Goose a while to remember that he had a class later in the day this session but he did in fact remember when his class was and turned up on time.

“Welcome to A Guide to Mechanical Engineering,” Goose nodded to the class, “I thought for our first class we would start with introductions and then for our first practical we will work on making a Coil Winding Machine, to start getting a feel for machines and it’s a good introduction to automation,” Goose explained.

“So I’m Shane Gooseman, most people call me Goose,” he said, “however it is fine if you would rather call me Shane or Mr. Gooseman instead,” he paused, “I’m from West Australia, 2107 and I serve with the Series 5 Galaxy Rangers where I do a lot of engineering work for the team,”

Mostly because he had damaged the machines in the first place and that’s why they needed fixing but he wasn’t going to mention that fact.

There wasn’t a 7 foot tall blond Supertrooper standing in front of the class today, instead Alara found herself standing in front of the classroom after she had received an email from the teacher asking if she could run the final session today.

She had no idea what she was actually doing, Goose had given her an outline of what the class was going to involve and she had done her best to follow it

“So … um … hi?” Alara tried when it was time for class to begin, “so Mr. Gooseman couldn’t make it to class this week, he got called away on a last minute assignment and he asked me to cover it today,”

No she had no idea why when there were so many other more qualified people who could teach this class.

“So for the final class his instructions were for you to design and build a wind powered car,” Alara explained as she referred to the brief notes and instructions that Mr. Gooseman had left her

Yes it was the exact same class that Goose had used for last semester but his current assignment involved providing security detail for senators at a political conference so he was too distracted to think of something new for his final class that session.

Goose had ended up handwavily spending the weekend back home and had asked Niko to have a look at his communicator and see if she could get any kind of reading on it that would give some indication on the progress that they were making or if she could reestablish a connection but even her abilities weren’t able to get that link up and running again and now Goose was running out of ideas that he could try.

He had managed to get a few more communicators for Summer though, so the trip home wasn’t a complete bust.

“Good morning,” Goose began, “I thought we could start expanding and combining the topics that we've been working on for the last few weeks by beginning to work on a Mechanical Pick and Place Mechanism, and we can look at a more detailed way for the mechanical design process of such a machine,” he explained. "in particular, this is also a good introduction to the pulley system as well, which is a prominent component of mechanical engineering,"

Goose had finally slept and was a bit more alert than last week, even if he was still a bit distracted since he hadn’t had any additional luck with getting through to Ignis but he had been successful in talking to Captain Foxx in getting more communicators so that they could get them to Summer so that was at least something

“Good morning,” he said, “so last week we covered strength of materials, I thought a way to expand on that would be to look at the theory of Hooke’s Law and see if we can look at at a spring and see how accurate it can be for weighing objects,” he explained, “so for this week’s activity we’re going to be looking at making a Spring Scale and seeing what we can discover,”

Goose was a bit more distracted than normal when he got have to his class that morning, he kept looking at his communicator, hoping that he would hear from Ignis or Prompto, some kind of indication that there was still a line of communication open.

He had decided to revisit a topic that he covered in class last semester, since he had spent the last few days trying to get in contact with Ignis and not been able to do so.

“Good morning,” he began, finally stopping looking at his communicator for a few minutes so that he could begin the lesson, “this week we’re going to look at strength of materials,” and he began to offer a brief overview on where it related to mechanical engineering.

“For this week’s practical, we’re going to rubber band helicopters and see how far we’re able to propel them and how well the material will hold,”

“Good morning,” Goose said as he started that week’s class, “since we looked at machine drawing last week, this week’s project is going to expand on that and we’re going to look at making a Rube Goldberg machine,” he explained and he began to cover what was involved in such a project and a bit of a history behind it.

“This project requires two steps so the first one is to design your Rube Goldberg machine and then we’ll build it,” he explained, “this project looks at the fundamentals of simple machines and it’s a good introduction to how they work and it’s a way make the process rather complicated so it can be any kind of project that you’d like to make,”

“Good morning,” Goose said when it was time for class to start, “this week we’re going to start looking at the practical component of this class and I thought to get a good feel for mechanical engineering and the process of building mechanical projects, we’d start by looking at machine drawing,”

“So we’ll start this week by getting a feel for the techniques used” and what’s involved before we move on to the building process,”

“Good morning,” Goose said when class was ready to begin, he had not slept at all last night but he was used to going days without sleep so he’d already had a few cups of coffee and so he was at least alert and functioning for his class.

“I thought we’d start this week’s class with the introductions and then next week we can start focusing on mechanical engineering projects,” he explained.

“So I’m Shane Gooseman, most people call me Goose but I don’t mind if you’d rather call me Shane instead,” he said, “I’m from West Australia, 2107 and I’m based with the Series 5 Galaxy Rangers team where I do a lot of mechanical work for the team, mostly fixing the ships that my team uses,” that he was responsible for why they needed to be repaired but he wasn’t going to mention that right now. “So I’d like to know your name, the year that you’re from and if you have any experience with either mechanical engineering or engineering in general or if you don't what you'd like to learn in this class,” he said.

It was the final class and while Goose did actually have a lesson planned for the last class, it still felt weird that he’d had two semesters of teaching now and that he’d been able to have a final class both times.

“Good morning,” he said when it time for class to begin, “so this is your final class for the semester and I thought since we started machine drawing last week, I thought that’s what we’d finish with and it’s what we’ll work on for our final practical,” he explained.

“So this lesson is going to focus on two components and the first one is that you will work on building a wind powered car but you will also be doing a machine based drawing on it as well based on the lecture from last week,”

The last two weeks had been rather distracting and Goose was still rather distracted, even though talking to both Summer and Ignis about the whole Walsh situation had helped him and had stopped him from going straight back home and confronting him about it. Now he just had to focus on not thinking so much about his upcoming birthday party, it still felt weird to think that his birthday was actually going to be celebrated. It was also weird to think that he had now turned 20 and had in fact managed to make it this far.

“Good morning,” Goose said once class was ready to begin, “so this week we’re going to talk about and start looking at drawing plans for machine drawing,”

Once he had a covered the general overview of machine drawing, he began to outline how the drawings could be read and the steps needed to begin to make design plans.

“So for today’s activity I thought we’d begin practicing having a go at trying out at the methods used in machine drawing, we won’t be making plans for machine designs this lesson but we can get a feel for the process and techniques involved,” he explained.

After the news that Goose had gotten over the weekend about Walsh, he hadn’t been able to focus on anything let alone a lesson plan and so he decided to have another movie day and hopefully figure out how to act on the information that he had gotten about both Walsh and Max.

He also hadn’t been sleeping properly either since Monday, so the fact that he had even managed to get to class at all this week was probably an achievement in itself.

“So I know we had a movie day last week,” he said rather apologetically, “but well with the past weekend, I thought we’d try something similar this week but we’re going to be watching a documentary on Apollo 11 and we’ll return to our normal lessons next week,”

At least that was what he was hoping anyway.

Goose had forgotten what this week had been like and as soon as he started to realise what was going on, he decided to handwavily return home for a few days and made it back just in time for his class. He had been tempted to just stay at home for the week but knew that he should at least attempt to have his class, even if all he was planning for the lesson was to have a movie day.

“So we’re going to have a movie day today,” he announced, “we’re going to be watching a movie about a medical engineer who gets stranded in space and has to make it back to Earth,”

He wasn’t sure if this was going to help with the students focusing but it was better than him to trying to give a lecture on mechanical engineering right now.

“Good morning,” Goose began the session when everyone was seated, “for today’s class we’re going to look at Thermodynamics and how it relates to mechanical engineering,”

He began to start going through what Thermodynamics was and then a more detailed version of the different laws of Thermodynamics.

“For this week’s practical, I thought we’d look at making a steam powered rocket boat,” apparently there was a bit of a theme going on with these last few weeks, “and we’ll see how far we can get them to travel,”

“Good morning,” Goose began when everyone was seated and ready to begin that day’s class, “today we’re going to be looking at strength of materials, which lets us look at how how materials respond to dealing with particular loads,” he explained, going through a few different examples and how they specifically related to mechanical engineering.

“For today’s practical, we’re going to be working on rubber band helicopters to highlight the stress of the materials and see how far we can propel the helicopters,”

Goose had definitely been taking advantage of the coffee being back the last few days and was quite caffeinated and slightly more energetic than he usually was. He had been careful to not go overboard with drinking too much caffeine but he had definitely had more than he probably should have at this point in the morning.

“Good morning,” he said when everyone had turned up and class was ready to begin, “for today’s class we’re going to be focusing on fluid mechanics and hydraulics and how they relate to mechanical engineering,” he explained and he began to start going into what fluid mechanics involved and what the connections to mechanical engineering were.

“For today’s practical,” he continued once he had finished the lecture component of the class, “we’re going to work an an experiment that we covered last semester and that is we’re going to make paper planes and this will also let us test how fluid mechanics work in relation to the thrust and velocity of the paper planes,”

“Good morning, welcome back” Goose nodded once everyone had arrived for that morning's class, unlike the last class before spring break he had actually prepared a lesson this week.

He had not yet noticed that there was no caffeine or alcohol on the island, or he might not be thinking it was a good morning right now.

“We’re going to be continuing looking at mechanical design and in particular, we’re going to look at what you need to factor in when making your own designs,” he explained before he started to go through the different factors that were involved and what was needed to begin working on mechanical design.

“For our practical today we’re going to expand on our pulley assignment that we did a few weeks ago and look at making a portable hammering machine since this project can show just how a pulley does connect to everything and make it work,”

So the last several days had ended up being rather busy for Goose and in that time he hadn’t thought to get a head start on planning for this week’s lesson and by the time it came round for class, he ended up not having anything prepared.

“Good morning,” Goose nodded, “so I know we were supposed to be continuing to talk about mechanical design but I … well don’t have anything prepared for this week…” he said a bit sheepishly, “so we’re going to be having a movie day instead - this one is based on a true story of how NASA got the first man on the moon,”

Goose had even seen this movie as well - courtesy of some of the movie nights that he’d been had for team bonding night.

“Good morning,” Goose nodded when everyone had turned up and he started that week's lecture, “this week we will begin looking at mechanical design in engineering, which will be our next topic for the next couple of weeks,”

He then started to cover the basic functions of mechanical design and the different types of design there were overall before he finally explained what the process involved in establishing and working through a mechanical design.

“For today’s project, we’re going to look into creating a air purifier and humidifier using the mechanical design process, there is a tutorial that you can follow and moddable options available to work on your projects,”

Goose was not as distracted as he had been in class last week, even though that was really only because his next … well … his dinner date was tomorrow and he still wasn’t entirely sure what he was supposed to bring over.

“Good morning,” he said when everyone was there, “this week we’re going to explore the different disciplines of mechanical engineering and how they relate to mechanical engineering,”

He began to go into detail about the different disciplines, again it was a very similar lecture to last semester but he felt the lectures were a pretty good overall beginning to mechanical engineering before he began to cover other aspects of the course.

“Similar to another topic that was covered last semester, we’re also going to be working on a pulley for today’s practical since this is another good introduction to mechanical engineering overall and how everything is connected and works,”
notagoose: (Default)
[personal profile] notagoose
Goose had his dinner tonight and he was perhaps not as focused on his class that he normally would have been but luckily this week’s lecture was going to be rather similar to the lecture he did last semester when he covered this topic so he had his notes and lesson plan from that to go off.

“So this is week’s lecture is going to be the beginning of looking at mechanical engineering as a whole and to start that we’re going to look at the general history and notable achievements and then we’ll begin getting into the practical aspect of the course,” he explained.

He then began to cover the general details of the history of the time line and achievements of mechanical engineering.

“So for our first project, we are going to make an analogue wall clock, this is a project that we did do last semester when we covered mechanical engineering but I think this is a good example of being introduced to machinery and a way to learn how everything all comes together, so I do have a tutorial that you can follow and then we’ll spend the rest of the class working on this project,”

“Good morning,” Goose nodded when class was ready to start.

“I thought for this week we will look more in depth at trigonometry and calculus based on last week’s test results,” he explained, it was mostly for Jo’s benefit since Sakaki seemed to have a good working knowledge of math but he wasn’t going to mention that, “last week I went through how each discipline applied to mechanical engineering, this week we’re going to focus not he core principles that these disciplines involve and then I do have textbooks that you can take back with you and that way you can refer to the text throughout the course as we start to discuss mechanical engineering concepts,”

Goose realised that text books probably would have been handy from the first lesson but then this was Goose we were talking about, he was lucky to know what day of the week it was sometimes.

“So the key components for trigonometry are the Law of Sines and the law of Cosines,” and he began to go into depth with these laws and started to go through examples of both, “and then we have the Fundamental theorem of calculus for calculus ,” and he began to go through examples relating to caucus to provide a general overview of how these topics worked,”

Once he had gone through the examples, he handed out the text books and also some worksheets with different problems on them so that they could be completed in the rest of the class.

“Good morning, welcome back,” Goose nodded to his class as he began that day’s lecture, “so before we start delving further into the mechanical engineering, I thought we’d take a look at some of the math that we will be using in this course since math does play a considerable aspect of mechanical engineering,”

“Mechanical engineering primarily uses algebra , calculus and trigonometry ,” he explained as he started to go through the different examples and how they related specifically to mechanical engineering, “so I do have some test papers to see what level you are at first since we’ll spend the couple of lessons so that we can prepare for the rest of the course but don’t worry if you struggle with the test, this is only an intro course so this is just to get an idea of what level of math you may already have experienced and I know what we'll need to work on,"

Goose found that having his class first thing in the morning went well because it meant he could do his early morning run around the island and then go over to set up for class. Even though this week he wasn’t planning on anything that required a lot of setting up do he mostly focused on finalising his next few lesson plans while he waited.

“Good morning,” he nodded once everyone had turned up, “I know we’re a small class this semester and I do know Jo from class last semester but I thought we could still do introductions regardless it is the first week and they’re pretty standard around here,” he grinned, “so why mess with tradition? I’d like to know your name, class and your experience with either mechanical engineering or engineering in general so I’ll start,” he said, “I’m Shane Gooseman, most people call me Goose. I’m from West Australia and its 2107 for me, I’m part of the Galaxy Rangers Series 5 Task Force and part of my responsibilities involving fixing machines or help in the building of them, “ he nodded, “who would like to go next?”

“Welcome to your last engineering class this semester,” Goose said when he started that day’s lesson, he was a little surprised that he had actually made to the point where he could give a final exam since past experiences with Fandom taught him that by about half way through the week it was basically impossible to attend classes.

Still he had at least prepared an exam just to be on the safe side so at least that was something.

“For your final exam, I thought we’d do something similar back to the start of the semester but this time I’d like you to write an essay on a specific achievement of engineering from your time period and what discipline it relates to and why it’s of particular importance to you,”

“Welcome back,” Goose said once everyone was there and had settled down, “so this will be our final week of actual classes, next week we’ll be going on a field trip to the Longshot Research Facility in my home world, it’s where a lot of our main science and engineering projects are done,” hopefully this visit wouldn’t coincide with space mobsters trying to break into the facility again but he didn’t voice any of this to his students.

Goose also realised that this would mean that the week after would be exam week and he remembered what exam week had been like when he was a student at this time, the odds of him actually being able to give an exam were very slim.

“I thought for this week we will use this as a review lesson and cover everything that we’ve talked about these past several weeks and if there’s any topics in particular you’d like for me to go over in more detail,” he explained and then started to go through the different topics that they had covered over the semester.

“Welcome back,” Goose was looking a lot better than he had the previous week, having slept for four days straight and that was also due to the fact that he’d had decent food to eat after Ignis stopped by yesterday, which had been rather unexpected.

“This week we’re going to look at the specific elements and sub disciplines of aerospace engineering and aerodynamics,” he explained and then he went into a detailed explanation of what was specifically involved when studying these particular units of engineering.

“For this week’s practical we will be experimenting with frisbees and how the use of force can determine how far they can travel and we’ll record the different results,” he explained, “we’ll be testing the frisbees both inside and outside to see if there are any differences,”

“Welcome back,” Goose nodded once his class was seated and ready to begin that lesson, he was currently on day three of not being able to fall asleep and was starting to look rather tired at this point and was rather restless but he had actually managed to complete a lesson plan and was trying to stay focused on the lesson.

“Today we’re going to looking at aerospace engineering and aerodynamics and we’ll be looking at this unit for the last few weeks of the semester,” he explained and then began to provide an overview of aerospace engineering and aerodynamics

“This week we’re going to try something a little different for our practical and we’re going to experiment using paper planes to test how far you can propel them, we’ll look at how your designs can impact the distance of your plane,”

“Welcome back,” Goose said, he was back in his basic black military uniform today, deciding that was just easier for class than figuring out different outfits to wear all the time, “we’ll be continuing on with our environmental engineering module this week,”

The focus of the lecture component went into detail about the specific sub disclipines of environmental engineering and how they related to environmental engineering over all.

He also then covered wind energy and how that related to environmental engineering since both last week’s and this week’s practical activity both made use of wind energy.

“I thought for this week’s project we might try our hands at making a Wind Powered Car,” Goose explained, “and similar to last week we’ll then go outside to give it a test run and see how they hold up,”

[personal profile] notagoose
This week Goose had been able to actually finish his original lesson so it was actually a proper lesson today.

“Welcome back,” he nodded to the class, “this week we’re going to start our environmental engineering module for the next couple of weeks,”

He started with the general overview of what environmental engineering was and made particular key points of the impact that it had in terms of the environment and the importance that it played.

“For this week’s practical I thought we’d try building weather vanes and then we can take them outside to give them a test run,”

After spending the last several days at home Goose once again barely made it back with half an hour to spare and he hadn’t been able to finish preparing for this week’s lesson so it was time for another movie day.

“I did have something else planned but that will have to be next week’s class so this week is going to be another movie day,” Goose explained, “the movie is about a botanist who gets stranded on Mars but he uses engineering skills to survive his situation,”

Again it was one of those rare occasions where Goose had actually watched a movie and again it came courtesy of Captain Foxx’s movie night recommendations.

“Welcome back,” Goose nodded to his class when everyone was seated, “this week we will be continuing on with our civil engineering unit from the last class and this time we will be looking at specific sub genres of civil engineering,”

He started covering the different genres of civil engineering, he made note that there were five genres of civil engineering and went into detail with how they related to civil engineering overall.

“For our practical this week, in a way it ties in with the construction plans project that we were working on before the break, this time we will be building dioramas and seeing if we can recreate those construction plans,”

“Welcome back, our module for the next couple of lessons will be civil engineering,” Goose began that lecture when everyone was seated, “for this class, we will be going over an overview of civil engineering and looking at what’s involved, and next lesson we will look at ”

He started explaining what civil engineering was and then started
covering the history of civil engineering and highlighting key points through its history.

“For our practical today we will have a go at designing construction plans this can include be for any type of project - building, roads, dams, be as creative as you would like to be,”

“Welcome back,” Goose said when everyone was seated and he began that days lesson, “today we’re going to continue on with the mechanical engineering module that we started last week and this time we’re going to be looking at the different types of mechanical engineering there are,” he explained, “there are seven different types of mechanical engineering sub genres and we’ll look further into the specifics,”

He then launched into a detailed account of what each sub genre detailed and how it related to mechanically engineering overall.

“For today’s practical I thought we would look into a pulley and the principles that apply to mechanical engineering and then I’d like you to have a go at seeing how you go with creating one yourself,”

“Welcome back,” Goose nodded to his class, “for today’s lesson we’re going to start looking into specific engineering modules and today we are going to be looking at mechanical engineering for the next couple of weeks, this week we will look at the general history and overview of mechanical engineering and next week we will look at specific sub genres and disciplines,”

He began to go into a general overview of thehistoryof mechanical engineering, making sure to highlight specific achievements and what it involved.

“For something different, I thought we would also start the practical components of this course and for this project we will look at the mechanics of an old analogue wall clock, which I realise is probably outdated for most of you, myself included but the principles of mechanical engineering still apply here,” he said, “so you have different options for designs and the tools needed to build and see how you go following the tutorial.”

Goose had spent the morning being lectured at by Commander Walsh since he had only had his interceptor for not even two weeks and he’d already crashed it.

He had been granted a replacement interceptor and managed to get to Fandom about an hour before his class was due to start. So his original lesson plan wasn’t going to cut it today since he hadn’t finished it in time so he decided to do something else for that class instead.

“So I had something else planned but I had an emergancy back home and only just got back,” Goose explained, “so we’re having a movie day today,”

It also happened to be one of the few movie’s that Goose had seen because it was one of Captain Foxx’s favourite old Earth movies and it had been his pick the last time they’d had a team movie night so that had been what inspired today’s impromptu class.

Was it weird to have a movie day in engineering class? He wasn’t sure but he was rolling with it, “this movie is a good example what can be achieved in engineering under pressure and how vital these skills are, it is also based on a true story from the early days of the old NASA space program,”

“Welcome back,” Goose said as he started the lecture for the second week and was wearing shoes, he grimaced a bit “I apologise for last week, I can assure you that it wasn’t normal,” they would have been able to tell that by the sudden lack of pauses in his sentences

“Today we’ll begin an overview of engineering and looking at how it’s advanced over time, for the purpose of this class we will be focusing on the history up to present time,” he paused and glanced at Alara, “and this is of course the engineering history of Earth,”

“There are many disciplines of engineering and we will be looking at some of these modules throughout this course but today’s lesson is designed to provide the historical context and noted achievements that have helped shape engineering today,”

He began to go through some of the earliest accomplishments in engineering, making note of early achievements such as those of the invention of the wheel through to the ancient era and how these designs were the foundations for how engineering would later develop and form to how it was studied and applied in modern times .

He also made note of the different kinds of engineering and what was involved with each discipline. The last topic he covered was a look at what was considered to be the greatest achievements in engineering in the twentieth century

“For today’s discussion, I would like to ask what each of you think is in an important achievement in engineering and why,” he nodded at the class to signal they could start the discussion.

Goose showed up to his first engineering class, still without wearing shoes and still unaware of any noticeable changes, “Uh, er …………….hello.” he began, nodding to his students and apparently not noticing his sudden fondness of dramatic pauses in his sentences, “my name is ………………Shane Gooseman.” he revealed, “Most people call me ………………..Goose.” this was going to take a while. “I used to be a …………..student here. Class of ………………2014.”

“I’m from the year ……………………..2106 and I’m based in West Australia.” he went on, “I’m here on ………………..temporary reassignment. I am normally ……………………. assigned to the Series 5 Galaxy Rangers team back home. My speciality is ……………machinery and fixing machines. Hence ……………this class.” he waved around the room to indicate the class.

“This is ……………… Introduction To Engineering and I’ll be your teacher this semester.” that part was kind of obvious, “When I ………………..was a student is was common for the first week to be introductions. So I’d like …………….to know your name, what year it for you at home and what experience you have with engineering.”

Mohinder was waiting at the front of the classroom, papers at his side. "I'm sure you know that today is our last class together. You can take the next five minutes to check any notes at which you may want to look."

Taking his time to hand out the questions Mohinder made his way back to his desk. "You have until the end of the period to complete your answers, and can go when you think you're done."

Mohinder kept one eye on the students, one on the article he was reading.
