The class was outside today, oh boy! There was a giant, colorful bouncy thing set up, and Aeryn was standing in front of the class with her sixteen points of articulation and Kung-fu grip.

"Unfortunately Anakin won't be here today, or anymore, because he was a very bad toy," she announced, cheerfully and creepily. "That's why it's very important to be happy. You don't want what happened to him to happen to you, do you?"

Of course not! She'd turn you in without blinking, too!!

"Today you will be running an obstacle course," Aeryn announced, gesturing to the inflatable course. "There are two lanes, so two people can play at the same time! The one who gets the best time will have had the most fun!"

"Today we're going to continue to explore new games," Anakin said.

It was likely possible he'd spent the week finding new people to terrorize ala bumper cars. "This time it will be competitive axe throwing!"

What could go wrong?!

"You have a target to hit with one of these axes," Aeryn said, gesturing to said target with said small axe. "The areas are numbered, so should the axe actually stick when you throw it, you will be awarded that many points. You'll take turns throwing until the end of the period, or someone hurts themselves, and the highest total determines the winner."

"Throwing an axe at me, Aeryn, or another person will result in immediate detention," Anakin said severely. "I can catch them and I will not be pleased."

"The axe will probably bounce back towards you at least some of the time. You won't be penalized for that," Aeryn said. "Also watch for bouncing axes."

"I can't believe this is a sport," Anakin sad, snickering. "Sometimes this planet is amazing."

Today class was in the Danger Shop, which looked a lot like a basketball court, even if the line markings on the floor were different. Also the basketball hoops were more like flat targets.

Also there were bumper cars.

And Aeryn had a trac-ball racket in her hand.

"Today we're playing something called Whirlyball," she announced. "We will split into two teams, and you will each get a car. Called a… whirly bug." She wasn't entirely sure that was right! She moved on. "Your goal is to scoop up this ball with this… thing, and use that to hit your opponent's target."

"Which is not, it turns out, your opponent, right?" Anakin asked Aeryn.

"No. It's that big thing up there," she said, pointing at the target. "You can steal the ball from the other team, but you are not allowed to touch them. You can use your…" She waved the racket. "...this to hit it, or you can ram them with your car."

"I like ramming them with my car," Anakin offered, grinning.

No one was surprised to hear that, Anakin.

"First team to--ten?--" he offered to Aeryn, "--wins."

"We'll have Billy, Lana and Bobby on one team, and Janet and Sidon will play with Anakin," Aeryn said. "When you lose or crush a ball, as I'm sure you will, I'll be the one launching new ones onto the court."

So good luck either way, kids!

Anakin grinned a little evilly. "This will be fun."

The island seemed normal! Normal-normal, as in there wasn't any creeping gray stuff or weird smoke, and so far everything was the color it was supposed to be. Therefore, class was outside today.

"We're going a bit simpler this week," Aeryn said, "with an Earth game I have never played."

Weirdly Talyn had never asked her to.

"I have played it many, many times," Anakin said, "and if you don't think it's a cut-throat game, you're playing with the wrong children. It's called Duck, Duck, Goose, and there are no animals actually involved."

Which had confused him initially.

"Apparently you all have to sit in a circle, and one of you is it. And then you walk around, tapping people on the head and designating them ducks, until you designate one of them a goose and then the goose chases you?" Aeryn was still confused on this.

"And if you beat them back to their place in the circle, you become a duck and they become the goose. But not literally."

This game made NO SENSE to two aliens from different galaxies. "It might have something to do with Santa and his flying reindeer? Perhaps this goes back to an earlier time on the planet where animals were more interesting?"

Anakin, no.

"Do not invoke Santa," Aeryn warned.

"I can take 'im," Anakin told her. "I have successfully defended myself for five years at various malls!"

Aeryn opened her mouth to say something, then thought better of it, and turned to the students. "Lana, you will be a goose."

There. That made this normal.

Extremely normal!

"Not an actual goose," Anakin reminded her, sitting down on the ground. "And complaining about how hard you get smacked in the head is traditional!"

At least with his kids.

"Right, so it smells horrifying outside," Anakin began, holding up a red ball that most kids from Earth-based realities would be familiar with from elementary school gym classes, "so we'll do our first sporting event indoors."

Aren't you excited, kids?

"This is a game called dodgeball," Aeryn said. "In this game, you throw balls at each other, and dodge them."

Self-explanatory, there.

"You will be separated into two teams, and have to stay on your half of the court. There will be two balls in play that you have to throw at the other team. If you're hit, you're out. If you catch it, the person who threw it is out," Aeryn continued. "There will be no throwing the ball at players' heads, no powers, and since we're a small class we're going to play three matches. Sidon, Billy and Bobby, you'll be on one team, and Lana, Janet and I will be on another."

Today was actually looking normal, so class was going to be outside today, in the park. There were several targets set up in the area, and Aeryn was holding… a frisbee.

"Today we're going to play disc golf," she began. "It's like golf, which is incredibly boring, but this is with wildly unpredictable discs that you throw."

"Even if they don't explode," Anakin said, "which would make this so much more fun."

Anakin, no.

"This is an individual sport," he continued, "so if you stink at throwing things, you only have yourself to blame and the wind that no one else is bothered by but you."

"You have a course to follow," Aeryn continued. "You throw a disc at a goal, and the fewer tries it takes for you to get it, the better you do. You want a low score. You get a goal, you move on, and leave everyone behind you to keep trying."

"If you throw a frisbee into a tree, we will very definitely laugh at you," Anakin said. "One person will play at a time and you cannot throw your frisbees at other people's heads for some reason." It would be so much more fun that way! "You have six targets to hit so that we aren't here all day."

"Good luck. I don't expect this to go well," said Aeryn, so feel good about that, class.

The class was notified to meet outside today, where there were chalk marks on the ground to establish boundaries, and that was it.

"So far, it appears that nothing is trying to kill us today, so we've decided to have class here," Aeryn began. "If it turns out we were wrong, then at least you'll already be running."

"You can thank us after class," Anakin told them benevolently. "This class was inspired by our children, who play this until we are entirely sick of it."

So...ten minutes.

"It's called freeze tag, and does not involve freeze rays."

Around here, it's good to be specific.

"One person will be designated 'it.' That person will have to chase the rest of you," Aeryn continued. "If you are tagged, you must stay frozen in place until someone who is still unfrozen tags you again. 'It's goal is to tag everyone so they are all frozen and a new person becomes 'it.'"

You might be able to tell already why they were over it in ten minutes.

"And if any of you get tagged and then lie and say you didn't feel it, I will ground you like I ground Juliet, Christopher and Talyn," Anakin threatened.

Aeryn was not going to comment on how well grounding worked when the other parents were Rory and John. "My co-teacher here will be playing with you, powers are not allowed in this game-" Probably good, considering Freeze Tag with Bobby. "-and we're going to declare… you it."

Congratulations, person Aeryn pointed to.

Today the class was meeting at the Danger Shop, which was set up just like Anakin and Aeryn's favorite paintball place... that they had been kicked out of for taking it way too seriously. And maybe some things had been damaged. Not the point!

"This is paintball," Aeryn said, passing out red helmets to the students she'd just now decided would be the red team. "The concept is simple: you will put on all the necessary safety gear, and then you will get guns filled with balls of paint. You will shoot at the members of the opposite team."

"And if they cry or whine about it, you can shoot them again," Anakin said.

And now you know why they had to create their own site!

He handed out blue helmet to the other half of the room, then put one on his own head even though it would mess up his amazing hair. The sacrifices he made!

"And since we have an uneven number, red team, you have him to face off against," Aeryn said. "All you have to do is be the last one standing. If you get hit, you're out. Good luck with this one."

Seriously. Good luck, red team.

...And, really, good luck to the blue team, too.

Anakin leaned against a desk at the front of a classroom that had been modified with a series of card tables.

"We'll play more physically active games later on this summer," he began, "but today we thought we'd start out easy."

But if you thought simple board games couldn't devolve into physical violence, you've never played with Anakin and Aeryn. "I'm Anakin Skywalker," he said, pointing to himself. "Most you should know me already."

"I'm Aeryn Sun," she said, doing without the pointing. "A former student, and someone who frequently beats your other teacher at many things."

"Not at many things," Anakin grumbled.

This was your class, kids.

"Since most games don't work with seven people," he continued, "we'll have two boards set up. Today's game is called Monopoly, where you hoard money in order to buy fake properties and make your friends go bankrupt and hate you."

Sounds fun, huh? Hard to tell that Anakin wasn't from this planet sometimes...

"And since this game can go for several hours until you hate everyone you're playing with, we'll play till sudden death at the end of the class period," Aeryn added, which was maybe bad phrasing on the first day of a class called Cutthroat Games.

That was maybe why Anakin added, "There will be no actual deaths."

So reassuring to new students! Truly!
