The Danger Shop was not set up like a theatre today, instead more resembling a presentation room, albeit it one with a number of computer terminals in it.

"Good morning," Bond greeted them. "Welcome to our final class together, which I'm afraid is going to involve slightly more work than usual. Hopefully by now you've gained a grounding in some of the conventions of spy fiction, and to help test that you are all going to create a pitch for your own theoretical spy film, show or book. It doesn't have to be fancy, just a concept, a title, and what medium. If you can think any actors you might like to cast, you may bring up their names, but it's not necessary."

He paused and checked his watch. "You'll have most of the class to work on your ideas, then you each get five minutes to pitch them to the class and answer any questions they might have."

The Danger Shop theatre more closely resembled a common room today, albeit a very, very nice one.

"Good morning," Bond greeted the class. "Given that many of you seem to have guests this weekend, we'll be watching a more family friendly offering than the one I had planned."

However, when he went to switch on the film projector, it made a small ~bzort~ noise and changed shape, and began projecting a more three-dimensional image than usual. The title hung in the air, written in an unfamiliar (for some of the class anyway)text.

Hope you were all looking forward to a showing of The Black Bantha, starring holo-idol Garik Loran, kids.

Today the Danger Shop theatre was back to having normal chairs. Also small baskets of chocolate eggs and currant buns.

"Good morning," Bond greeted them "Now, as you may have gotten the impression from some of the works we've watche dover the semester, being involved in intelligence work can have a negative impact on one's personal relationships, especially when your partner or other loved ones are unaware of your work. If trust is the cornerstone of a good relationship, then the secrets and lies that come with spy work are not going to help. Today's offering showcases one of the worst possible ways to handle this kind of tension."

Seriously, it made Bond's drinking and semi-anonymous sex look healthy.

Bond was actually in attendance today, though the Danger Shop theatre was decidedly more casual than usual with bean bags instead of chairs.

"Good morning," Bond greeted them. "Now as you've had something of a week, we'll be going with lighter fare this week, with a selection of episodes from an older spy comedy, Acquire Clever. Now it shouldn't require too much brainpower, but if you wish to have a slightly more engaging task, you may attempt to figure out which of the various Bund movies are being referenced in a given episode."

Bond was nowhere to be seen this morning. Instead, there was a note on the door. Along with a stack of J,GoB gift cards.

Class cancelled due to unfortunate teal deer incident.

Rather than the Danger Shop, class was being held in the computer lab today.

"Good morning," Bond greeted them. "Now as you've hopefully picked up, today we're going to be looking at ways in which intelligence work is portrayed in video game format, or at least we would have, except the vast majority of examples I was able to find were mostly in the vein of sneak around, shoot the enemy, and while that is a popular perception of spywork, there is also a lot of footwork going on behind the scenes to get to that point. So instead you're going to try your hands at a game that is more spy-adjacent than spy fiction."

The Danger Shop theatre was nothing out of the ordinary today.

"Good morning," Bond greeted his class. "Now that we're done with Agent M for the moment, we're moving onto a British series revolving around former Bletchley codebreakers that touches on many of the same post-war issues, albeit in a more restrained way."

"Now to give some historical context, Bletchley Park was the central site for intercepting and decoding Axis transmissions, work that was vital to the war effort, and which required both great intelligence and great secrecy, as most of the vulnerabilities that they needed to crack these nigh-unbreakable codes were the result of procedural flaws and human error, that could have been corrected if the Axis had ever realised their codes had been broken. Hence the work at Bletchley was classified at the very highest level, not only during the war, but also for decades after."

The Danger Shop was back to the Art Deco style theatre from earlier in the semester.

"Good morning and welcome back from your holiday," Bond greeted them. "Now I was planning on showing something different today, but I'm give to understand that you were without access to certain vital necessities during your trip, so for those of you who missed it last week, we'll be watching the Agent M finale." Because he was kind like that, also he wanted to watch it again.

For a change, Bond had his students meet him in the computer lab.

"Good morning," Bond said, looking completely unruffled. Best poker player in the servic, people. "Since I doubt any of you have the concentration necessary to watch something today, we'll be spending the class doing self-directed research on topics related to the class."

In other words, you had his permission to spend class playing around on the internet.

There was a truly remarkable amount of paisley covering the walls of the Danger Shop theatre today, and the chairs had been replaced with beanbags (also paisley), and there were a number of lava lamps scattered about the place.

"Good Morning," Bond greeted them as if the room looked perfectly normal. "While we really only scratched the surface of the genre, by now you should at least have a baseline idea of the kind of tropes and conventions that the average person might expect from a spy movie, which means it's time for a spy parody, most specifically of the B-movie spy capers popular in the nineteen-sixties."

Groovy.

The Danger Shop theatre was back to something more comfortable this week.

"Good Morning," Bond greeted the class. "Now so far we've been looking at works that feature trained agents as their protagonists, people who even with varying levels of experiences, at least have an idea of the treacherous waters they're navigating. However there is a popular trope within the genre where the protagonist is not some elite espionage agent, but rather some hapless innocent stumbling into the plot, naturally the levels of paranoia many intelligence agencies function under means that protestations of said innocence are not believed.

"So today we'll be watching 0 Degrees By 315 Degrees, the tale of one such hapless individual."

Today the Danger Shop theatre resembled nothing so much as a wood panelled briefing room, albeit one with incongruously comfortable seating.

"Good morning," Bond greeted his students. "I'm afraid I have more homework for you this week, as today we'll be watching the first few episodes of a mini-series adaptation of one of John le Carre's spy novels and I'd like you to find time to finish watching it outside of class."

"Now, while le Carre's novels and the James Bund series both draw inspiration from the same branch of the British Secret Service, Le Carre's works and accordingly this adaptation are much more cynical and morally ambiguous in tone than Bund, which by this point in time especially had begun to get rather silly."

The Danger Shop still had the Art Deco styling from last week.

"I hope you all enjoyed last week's offering," Bond said after greeting the class. "Today we'll be watching a less fantastical take on a somewhat similar character, focusing on her wartime activites. In turn, it should be noted that both chractes draw inspiration from numerous real life womean, such as the late Nacy Wake, who served in operations much like the one depicted here throughout the various theatres of the war."

The Danger Shop was set up almost exactly the same as last week, only now the walls had a lovely, retro, Art Deco feel.

"Good morning," Bond greeted them. "Today's offering was a bit of a late addition to the course, but there was fortuitous timing with this show's premiere, so it would have been remiss not to include it. I am of course, talking about Agent M, of which we'll be watching the first two episodes. As this series is currently airing, I do expect you to keep up with it outside of class." Such a hardship, that.

"Now, something to keep in mind before we start watching. While Agent M inhabits a world somewhat more fantastical than this one, the series does draw from various post-war transitions that occurred in the real world, both specific to the intelligence community, with female agents having their wartime contributions dismissed in peacetime, and more generally. But enough talking for now."

Bond had his students meet him at the Danger Shop, which resembled nothing so much as an extremely comfortable home theatre.

"Good morning, and welcome to Basic Mis-Intelligence," Bond greeted them as they arrived. "As you may have gathered from the class description and your surroundings we're going to be spending the semester consuming a great deal of spy films, although some books and television shows will also be involved. We're largely going to be focusing on examples from within the last century of this world, but even that relatively tight focus covers a vast array of styles, political contexts, subgenres, and levels of accuracy with regards to the actual mechanics of intelligence work."

"With that in mind, the first fictional spy we're going to look at is James Bund, member of the British Secret Service, and protagonist of a great many novels and even more film, with entries on various other media to boot. We're starting here not because of Bund's accuracy or quality, both of which vary wildly from story to story, but because he is in many ways the iconic spy character, whose impact can be seen one way or the other over the last half century. Now, there's far too many Bund films to watch in clas if we ever want to look at anything else, so I will be providing you with copies to watch at your leisure over the course of the semester, while today we watch Royal Casino, which served both as a continuity reboot after the films got rather silly and as an adaptation of the first Bund novel."

"But before we get started, the first week of classes means it's time for introductions, so name, class, and why you're taking this one. In the spirit of the class, none of your answers have to be true."
