When the class arrived at the Danger Shop, it was set up to look like a small cinema.

"Good afternoon, class," Bond greeted the students. "Before we get to your final, I would just like to take a moment to express what a pleasure it has been teaching you these past few months."

"Sometimes, no amount of adaptability can help you escape a situation," he said. "However, it can help you endure an inescapable one. Such as this. I'm afraid you've been captured by a scientist with designs on world domination and very few experimental ethics. He has shot you into space, leaving you on a satellite orbiting the Earth. Now that you are up here, you are expected to take part in psychological experiments, namely watching some of the very worst movies ever to have been filmed in the hopes it will destroy your free will. Due to a design flaw in the atmospheric system, you cannot leave the theatre while the movie is playing without risking explosive decompression."

Bond looked around the room. "Today's task is to find some way to survive to the end of the film with your sense of self intact." An alarm started blaring. "And now, I believe we have movie sign."

"Good afternoon, class," Bond said, making what might have been an unexpected appearance given his recent vanishing act. "I apologise for my unavoidable absence the last fortnight, and I do hope Kyle and Rose weren't too hard on you."

"Now the topic of today's class is gadgetry," Bond continued. "Given the stressful nature of the past weekend, I believe that a practical hands-on session with one of more ubiquitous gadgets of this time and place would serve you all well." He gestured to a table covered with various kinds of smartphone.

Translation: the class got to play with shiny, expensive toys.

The classroom was teacherless again. "Mr. Bond is still out of town." So Kyle assumed. He'd probably fallen down a well. "We're supposed to do gadgets but," he looked at Rose, "that's not really our thing. Combat is, so we're going to do that. Or talk about what we would do if we couldn't adapt and everything else we learned in the class didn't work. Classrooms aren't good for throwing each other around and I don't know what you guys like at fighting. We'll leave the gadgets for when Mr. Bond is back. I'll go first. My style is hit and run. Do the most damage in short bursts and get out of there alive."

Everyone got word that they were meeting inside today where it was cooler. There was no Bond in sight, but his intrepid TAs were on hand to cover for him while he was being a spy attending to important business. Rose and Kyle didn't actually know where Bond was though. Chances were he'd fallen down a hole and couldn't get out.

"Mr. Bond couldn't make it," Kyle said once it was time to start. "The syllabus says we're supposed to cover Blending In versus Standing Out." How convenient that one TA was good at blending in while the other was better at standing out. "When you're trying to adapt your surroundings, for a lot of people it's natural to want to blend in so you don't get noticed. If you lay low, you can do what you need to do without anyone even knowing you're there or that you're doing anything you're not supposed to."

Rose smirked a little at Kyle as he finished. "Or sometimes it's good to make people look at you. Especially if you're not too good at the whole sneaking around thing. But if they look at you and then just dismiss you cause you're obviously too young to be a threat or too pretty or whatever, well, then you're free to go off and do what you need to without worrying about getting caught sneaking." Or you have a friend use compulsion and then you can go about without worrying anyway. "I'm just saying. If they're staring at your tits, they probably don't think you're capable of actually doing anything important. And then you have 'em where you want 'em."

"So let's turn it over to the class. When do you think it's a good time to blend in? Or a good time to stand out?"

Bond's class was meeting out by the main campfire again today.

"Good afternoon, class," he began once they had all arrived. "Today we're going to be looking at two things, resource management and networking. We'll be doing them together because, mercenary as it may sound, when dealing with an unfamiliar situation, people and your ability to network with them are a resource to be managed."

"But first we have to consider the age old question of cash or credit?" Bond took a moment to explain what exactly a credit card was to those in the class unfamiliar with the concept. "Now both of these have a number of advantages and disadvantages so the correct answer to the question varies depending on the situation. For example, you can carry more money more easily with a bank card than you can with hard currency, but in a situation where you have little to no money it's often faster and easier to obtain cash than a new line of credit. Cash is mostly anonymous, cards are traceable, but dealing in large amounts of cash looks suspicious, and nowadays it can be almost impossible to book travel without a credit card." He continued on in this vein for a while.

"Now for the rest of the class, we'll be doing a practical exercise to work on your networking skills. Find a partner. You're in a strange city, and you've managed to draw the ire the local organised crime figures, who incidentally have corrupted the city police force. You have to convince someone you've just met to give you either money or a place to hide. Without threatening them or drawing undue attention to yourself. Once you've succeeded or failed, you can swap roles."

Bond had informed his class that they were meeting inside today.

"Good afternoon," he began once the class had assembled. "Knowing a language other than your own can be an invaluable tool in adapting to a tricky situation, know one fluently enough and you can come off as a citizen of a country that language is spoken in. Alternatively you can downplay your knowledge and gain information because people think you can't understand them, and that's just the beginning."

"However too little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Especially when it comes to things like idiom and informal language. To prove my point we will be watching a Space Battles 3: Backstroke of the West, I would like you to all pay close attention to the subtitles and how they correspond to the actual spoken dialogue."

Bond had decided to take advantage of the good weather, and was holding his class out by the main campfire today.

"Afternoon all, I'm afraid your teacher couldn't be here so he asked me to stand in for him instead. Robert Sterling, here's my card," Bond said once the class had finished arriving, offering around a stack of business cards for one R. Sterling, employee of Universal Exports, complete with contact details. "This class is called Art of Adaptation, and is all about developing the kind of skill set that will enable you to swim rather than sink when thrown into the deep end, regardless of what kind of end that is."

Grissom is in a shockingly jovial mood. He's even rocking a costume and has candy (without bugs) for his students. Must have some good Halloween childhood memories buried somewhere.

Criminology

Here is the study guide for your midterm exam. [it will be an 'essay question', but feel free to study/stress]

To review, in class today I would like you to discuss one thing you have learned in this class so far, and how it either surprised you, or changed your mind in regards to a certain topic. If that is not the case in any aspect, why not?

Death and Dying

Discussion: Your homework was to Choose a death by suicide from Shakespeare's work, and share a short reaction to it. Please do so.

Your midterm exam will be on Wednesday! It will be an in-class essay, in a similar vein to the homework you are turning in. Using what you have learned in class, and moving on to our accidental death chapter, please analyze A Darwin Award Winner or Honourable Mention. You may bring in notes on one 3x5 index card.
