There was no Reed in the classroom today. After a call from Sue concerning the Baxter Building, Johnny, Ben, and a prank war... Reed thought it prudent to check in on the damage. Because there would be damage.

He didn't even need to use that giant brain of his to know that.

So there was a show waiting for the students. At least this one wasn't fictional and didn't make science cry.

Damn you, Super Nova.

Someone was scrambling on the crafts portion of the class, it would seem. Or thought that puppets were awesome for high school age students. Who knew? There were some helpful worksheets on how to make paper bag puppets and all the supplies of glue, construction paper and paper bags that one might desire waiting for the class when they arrived. Fun times!

But that wasn't the important part if you asked Reed. The lecture waste important part, damn it.

"A wormhole is, contrary to what you might have seen or read in science fiction, purely speculative," Reed said, bringing up an image of a wormhole for them to see what he meant. "We have yet to actually observe one happening to prove or disprove our theories. But according to our understanding of timespace as it stands now, they are possible."

Oh yeah, science for the win there.

"The initial theory was known as the Einstein-Rosen Bridge--" AND NOT A GODDAMN RAINBOW. THOR. MAKING SCIENCE CRY. "--in which Einstein's field equations were solved with vacuum solutions. This theory, though, does not mean travel through them is possible."

He took a moment to write up the equation for this particular kind:

"This particular type of wormhole is unsustainable and unstable. It's likely to simply pinch off and disengage before even light could pass through."

Sorry, scifi writers!

"But there is a second type that is thought to be traversable. This one is more in line with common perceptions of what a wormhole is," Reed said, adding a second equation.

"These are thought to involve travelling from one universe to another, near instantaneous travel within a single universe, or, possibly, even time travel. Though, as I said before, these remain only speculations until we have hard data on the matter and not simply math."

Today, there was a neat little pile of newspapers, a bucket of paste, and a wide assortment of balloons for the students. There was also a nice assortment of tissue paper for decorating in yellows, oranges and shades of white. Which might give a hint as to what they were supposed to be doing during class. Maybe. Just maybe.

As soon as everyone arrived, Reed handed out the instructions to the 'crafts' portion of class. "Hello again, everyone! While you work on your pinatas today, we're going to watch a movie that illustrates supernovas," he said, starting said movie.

And then tilted his head at it.

"This isn't the movie I picked," he assured the class quickly, going through the files on his computer to find the right one.

It... could take a while. Technical difficulties!

Today, the classroom set up was altered enough to allow room for a number of pottery wheels for each student to work at should they not wish to take notes on the lecture. But what were the odds of that happening?

Reed had a lab coat on as his only concession to the no doubt messy work of pottery making. Because science was way more important than pottery, darn it. "Hello, everyone!" he said cheerfully, passing out a worksheet of a simple, easy to understand explanation of how to make a pot with those wheels. It was probably for the best that Reed did it this way because the Ghost jokes would be rampant otherwise. Rampant!

"While you work on your pots or whatever else you feel like making." A beat. "Please, nothing offensive."

Look, Johnny trained him and everything! Awww, best family ever.

Class today featured a large assortment of tubes of glitter in different shades, sturdy paper and glue waiting for the students when they arrived. Because glitter art would never stop being amazing, right kids? Right? Oh, just go with it because Reed wasn't very good at that part of it, okay?

"Good morning, class!" he said cheerfully, passing out the materials before starting on his lecture. And trying not to get glitter on himself. Somehow he was almost sure he'd never live that down if anyone back home caught wind of it. "Today, we'll be discussing dark matter. What we can see or detect around us is only a fraction of the matter in our universe. Far more of it is something that we're only made aware of by the affect it has on the gravity of the visible matter around it."

"While we are unsure just what this so called dark matter is comprised of because there has yet to be a device about to truly study it--" Get to work, Reed! "--there are ideas of just what they might be."

Writing on the board, Reed continued, "It could consist of already existing matter within the universe that we're aware of..."
Dark Matter all over your face! )

When class arrived, there was a small pile of popsicle sticks and good amount of yarn waiting for them. Someone had spent the night before, frantically trying to find an 'art and craft' for his students to do upon realizing just what the class title had been changed to.

There might have also been a long lecture about Respecting Science that Reed had the sinking suspicion didn't work to convince Johnny to stop. )
