Hopefully, all the students had gotten the handwavey message from Daisy requesting that the class meet in the gym this morning, in exercise clothes, and that they show up awake and breakfasted and ready for a day they could probably guess was coming based on that information, and that she was sure they were all looking forward to.

"Afternoon!" she greeted them. "Today we're covering just a little bit of that 'living' part in the class's title, because you can eat as healthy as you want, but if you really want it to be effective, you have to pair it up with exercise." She started to send around some handouts. "Now, every body is different so not everyone's going to have the same effective workout as every one else, but today we'll just touch on some basic ones and then you can try to figure out one fit for you for next week!"

"Alright, then, get some water, you'll want to keep those electrolytes replenished, and let's start with some stretches. You can tell me about how your dinners went while we do that, if you got to 'em. If not, oh well. No big deal. Your loss in the long run."

"Oh, and next week is our last class. I'd like for you all to look into bringing in your own healthy recipe to share with everyone as a final assignment."

"Hullo, everyone." Daisy, it would seem, had come into the classroom a bit early, to take to moving all the desks and chairs in the one part of the home ec room aside and lay down some mats, as well as brew some coffee. The good stuff, too. It's not like they were in the station. So she was having herself a giant mug of it, because she'd done her bad station coffee duty for the day, thank you. "Before we do anything, I'd like you all to help yourself to some coffee; there's tea, too, of course, if you're not a fan. Just a little something to wake us up a bit because it's been a long week and anything to help keep up up through this is probably a good thing."

"And I want to say thanks to Peyton for covering for me last week and apologize to you all for missing it, but there were some pressing matters that needed to be taken care of. If anything, I want you all to take from this class that you shouldn't try to turn old video game consoles into bombs. It only turns out badly."

"So far, we've focused, of course, a lot on staying healthy through what we eat, and this week was supposed to be the body, but I think we need a nice calming break. We're going to work a little on the mind. Keeping your head straight and healthy is equally important, and there are lots of ways to do that. Some people find their centering in a hobby or an activity, for example." Daisy would not be mentioning her own, as it was probably not classroom appropriate, ahem. "A lot of people use meditation, as well, and so we'll be taking some time to do that today. Meditation is a great way to just stop for a moment, give your brain a rest, and come out of it feeling as rejuvenated as a good night's sleep, if you get good enough at it. It'll help put things into focus if everything's seeming to get a little crazy, just by stopping for a moment, and focusing on just breathing. Our bodies tend to do that naturally, the whole breathing thing, but it's amazing how it can change us by slowing down and noticing."

"A lot of times, meditation works best by focusing on one thing. Your breathing, an object, a word, an image, a sound. Since I don't want that one thing to be our stomachs, we're going to start today by making a quick and easy snack, satisfy our stomachs before satisfying our minds. While we work on those and have some coffee, here's some information on meditation to look over,"--she had doubts about including that last one, but, come on, they were teenagers, it might be the only one they'd bother reading, and that was better than nothing-- "and if you did get a chance to get to that dinner, let's hear about it. If not, no big deal. I was gone all last week, but I could tell that it was an...off one. And then we'll hit the mats and try some meditation."

Peyton had gotten a letter from Daisy saying she'd had to go out of town for an emergency for the week and asking Peyton to run the class today.

So, she'd pulled together all the materials and ingredients and was here in front of the class, ready to do her best. If she still looked a little sad and as if she hadn't had enough sleep, well, that was just the way it went.

"So... Today we're covering dinners. In your packets you'll find a selection of recipes for two. That's right, for two. Your assignment is to go home and cook a nice healthy dinner for yourself and another person - a friend, a date, whatever - and come back ready to tell the class about it next week." Peyton passed out the sheets as she spoke.

"For the actual class part of today, you're going to make blueberry tarts. All the ingredients you'll need are set out over there. I don't claim to be much good at this cooking thing, but if you get stuck let me know and I'll do my best to help out. Okay... get cooking."

"Afternoon, guys," Daisy greeted the class with a smile and the slightest of limps; she was feeling grateful to have the counters to lean on a little. Still, despite being injured and having to be at the station early today, she'd managed to find time to bake muffins. Chocolate ones. OR WERE THEY?

They weren't, but Daisy wasn't going to say anything yet. It was sort of impressive that she still had time to bake them even with being injured and having to be at the station in the morning.

"So, last week we worked on breakfast, so now we're on lunch, which is the day's refueling station. Having a healthy, timely lunch can help curb an afternoon sluggishness or distraction, if you do it properly. So it needs to be nutritional, but not heavy. Today, we're going to work on a few options, that you can take with you and maybe have today! Or share with someone. Because that healthy eating is something that can be shared is just yet another benefit of it.

"Bento boxes are a very neat little lunch trip, especially if you make them yourself, so here's some sheets on how to make some health-focused ones and some containers to make a few today if you'd like. Bento is perfect for sharing, too.

"If you're more of a sandwich person, I've also got this Tijuana torta recipe to check out. It's black beans and guacamole, so you can give it a kick and some calcium with a little melted Montery cheese. Or maybe try a crab stuffed pita or barbeque chicken sandwich. Those last two are a bit up on the sodium for my tastes, but it's still a lot better than what you'd get if you went to most lunch meat selections. Deli meats as a secret healthy eating killer; they're loaded with preservatives and sodium, and so I highly recommend baking just a plain chicken breast and cutting it up to use on sandwiches than deli turkey or ham.

"Vegetables and the like are important for lunch, and there's a lot of really floofy vegetable salads with lemon or dill out there, but, for lunch, really, just some vegetables with maybe a nice light dip is best, which is really quick and easy to make.

"And, of course, a little desert snack. Chocolate's a big hit with you guys, and so today we'll try something with carob instead, which is a healthy chocolate substitute, used in just about everything imaginable by vegetarians. Those muffins are made with carob, actually. And you can make little candies or bites to treat yourself at the end of your healthy lunch.

"Loads of options, guys. If there aren't any questions, let's get started?"

"Afternoon, class," Daisy greeted them in her usual bright manner. "I'm sure you've all had interesting weekends, and what are the odds that, now that things are back to the grind, you may have skipped breakfast to get just a little extra sleep? Or maybe you just grabbed a Pop Tart or a granola bar on your way out, something quick and on the go because you know that you should have at least something or that you're simply hungry?"

"Help each other out, have fun, I hope you like them, and I'm here if you need help, too. I've got more ideas, too, for breakfasts, especially quick ones, if you're interested. We don't always have time in the morning, and, believe me, I've seen far too many cops get that awful little belly from thinking donuts and muffins are perfectly good breakfasts. The only reason you don't see it with this police force is because, I swear, all of 'em but me have a super-human metabolism. But I digress. Let's get to cooking."

It was a bit odd, Daisy felt, having this class not first thing in the morning and in the middle of the week, but, despite it being the afternoon, she was still a little tired. It might have a little bit to do with the fact that last night was the only time she had to turn the home ec classroom into a veritable offering of goodies.

And there really was a bunch of food, the fruits of a marathon cooking session last night. Hopefully, it was all normal looking food that they would help themselves to easily without thinking too much on the actual subject of the class, since that sort of ruined the bit Daisy had planned for once class began.

True, it was exactly how she'd done it last time, too, but they were all new kids this time.

She gave them a little time to munch and chat or whatever before she came in in her conservative clothes, the ones she really only wore for plainclothes jobs before she did this whole teaching bit. "Good afternoon!" she greeted them brightly. If you haven't already, help yourself to all the snacks; there's plenty. My name is Daisy Day and hopefully you're all here for my class; if not, stick around anyway and eat some of the food. Most of you seem to be unfamiliar faces, so hopefully that means we'll get to know each other better over these next few weeks. Either way, some of you may know that I'm not normally teacher; I'm normally a police officer at the station, but while I'm here, I'm strictly Daisy. Or Miss Day if you're nasty."

"And now onto the point of all this: healthy eating and diet and living! A lot of people have the misconception that eating healthy means eating bland or gross or boring, but this course is to teach you that that is not the case at all. Everything you've been munching on? Healthy for you. And delicious. So, ha. Take that." She gave them all a grin, babbling because, okay, she might have been a little nervous. Still. Even after having done this last time. She knew she probably sounded like a total nerd. "Now, we'll cover different things each week, starting with breakfast, if you'll have a look at the syllabus. Today, we're just going to snack and get to know each other, and I'd also like to give you each one of these notebooks. These notebooks will be a food journal; keep track of everything you eat every day, and, every so often, we'll have a little look and see what we can do to make easy little healthier changes to your usual diet."

"So, anyway, introductions. If you don't mind, I'd like to know your name, a little about yourself, whatever you'd like to share, and then what some of your favourite foods are. It'll help if I know what you like, so I can work with that! So go on, go ahead. But don't talk with your mouth full."

"Well," said Daisy, at the start of class, where she had a smile with her and a whole lot of fruit, "it's our last meeting and before we get started on anything I have to thank the five of you for being such a good," mostly, "class. This whole teaching bit was new to me, and I don't feel any more insane coming out of it than I did going in, so I'll take that as a good sign. So today, after we've shared your recipes, I've found my own to share, for chocolate cupcake. Yes. For breakfast. But they're low fat and if you're going to make some, you've got to have plenty of fruit here to go with it. I'll call it meeting you half-way, for having such a good workshop."

"So, then, let's to it. Share your recipe if you brought on in, and then help yourself to make some cupcakes or some smoothies or just have some fruit, and, again, thanks for being a good class you guys. It was definitely...interesting."

"Good morning!" Daisy greeted the class brightly; ever since getting up this morning, she'd been feeling very good and energetic and like it might turn out to be a very good day for her. "I'm sure if you have a look at your syllabus, you'll see that we're talking dinners today. Well, one of the best things about food and eating healthily is that it's something that's better done when shared. I'm going to hand out to you a packet of healthy recipes intended for two, and you're getting a bit of homework today. Hopefully homework you'll like. And get something out of."

She threw the wink at the class before she could stop it. "You're to put together a little dinner date using one or more of these recipes before next week. It can be with whoever you want, even someone from class if you'd like, and I just want to know how the cooking went and how the two of you liked the meal. Anything else that happens if you're own business."

Bless, that was an eyebrow waggle, too. She couldn't help it. "Anyway, since that's all stuff for later, today we'll just throw together a little healthy breakfast to have before you start your day. And I was originally thinking something like muffins or quiche or something, but then I remembered pomegranates. Pomegranates, mixed with oatmeal and chocolate is an excellent breakfast. I know a lot of you like your chocolate, and pomegranates are just so...sweet and lush and juicy; the moist inside, bright, lush and pink-red in colour brings to mind...they just make you want to..."

Okay, put the pomegranates down, Daisy. She cleared her throat a little. "Well, anyway, it's an easy enough recipe so you shouldn't have any trouble. I'm around to make sure you don't burn anything down and good luck on your dinner dates. I probably don't need to mention that I recommend the pomegranate duck."

"Morning, guys," Daisy greeted the class with a smile; they'd each find at their kitchen stations some fruit and...were those muffins? Chocolate ones?

They weren't, but Daisy wasn't going to say anything yet.

For at least one of these classes, Daisy figured, having the whole thing bright and early in the morning would be good, but she wondered just how much people would want to eat and cook things so early. But, at the same time, she reasoned that they were teenagers. All they did was eat.

So laid out in the classroom was a bunch of food, the fruits of a marathon cooking session last night. Hopefully, it was all normal looking food that they would help themselves to easily without thinking too much on the actual subject of the class, since that sort of ruined the bit Daisy had planned for once class began.

"Morning!" she greeted them brightly. "And, since it is morning, help yourself to the coffee; I've made plenty of it, and a certain amount of caffeine can actually be good for you! And the snacks, too, have a nosh. My name is Daisy Day; I'll admit that I'm not sure I know any of you except Penelope," because Penelope worked at the bar, la, "and if I do know one of you and forgot, I'm really really sorry. Either way, I'm not normally teacher; I'm normally a police officer at the station, but while I'm here, I'm strictly Daisy. Or Miss Day if you're nasty."

"And hopefully you're all aware that you're here for a little course on healthy eating and diet and living! A lot of people have the misconception that eating healthy means eating bland or gross or boring, but this course is to teach you that that is not the case at all. Everything you've been munching on?
