Healthy Diet and Living; Wednesday, Period One [ 05/27 ].

"Morning, guys," Daisy greeted the class with a smile; they'd each find at their kitchen stations some fruit and...were those muffins? Chocolate ones?

They weren't, but Daisy wasn't going to say anything yet.

"So, last week we worked on breakfast, so now we're on lunch, the day's refueling station. Having a healthy, timely lunch can help curb an afternoon sluggishness or distraction, if you do it properly. So it needs to be nutritional, but not heavy. Today, we're going to work on a few options, that you can take with you and maybe have today! Or share with someone. That's why I brought the fruit and muffins, so you can still have a breakfast.

"Bento boxes are a very neat little lunch trip, especially if you make them yourself, so here's some sheets on how to make some health-focused ones and some containers to make a few today if you'd like. And a great thing about bento? They're really good for sharing.

"If you're more of a sandwich person, I've also got this Tijuana torta recipe to check out. It's black beans and guacamole, so you can give it a kick and some calcium with a little melted Montery cheese. Or maybe try a crab stuffed pita or barbeque chicken sandwich. Those last two are a bit up on the sodium for my tastes, but it's still a lot better than what you'd get if you went to most lunch meat selection."

"Vegetables and the like are important for lunch, and there's a lot of really floofy vegetable salads with lemon or dill out there, but, for lunch, really, just some vegetables with maybe a nice light dip is best, which is really quick and easy to make.

"And, of course, a little desert snack. Chocolate's a big hit with you guys, and so today we'll try something with carob instead, which is a healthy chocolate substitute, used in just about everything imaginable by vegetarians. Those muffins are made with carob, actually. And you can make little candies or bites to treat yourself at the end of your healthy lunch."

"So if there aren't any questions, let's get started?"

Alex came pretty close to falling back to sleep even with all the food surrounding him. First period classes were freaking tough.

Angela was picking at a muffin while she listened to the lecture.

Having something like that to concentrate was an improvement to any class, she decided.

Penelope actually took notes. Yes, indeed.

Maron beamed at Miss Day because, yes of course, bentos were super easy to make healthy!

Alex...went for the sandwiches. It didn't require cooking or that much concentration. He really wished for some freaking peanut butter and jelly. That was a staple.

This whole bento thing didn't look that hard, so Angela snagged a box and started trying to neatly arrange some vegetably bits in it.

Maron went straight for the bento making supplies, then paused, glancing over. Maybe she should try something different? She already knew how to make bento, after all, and shouldn't she be learning something new?

Penelope went for the crab stuffed pita, only because she's never had it before and it did in fact, sound good. Not that she's had a bento either, but it was crab today!
