raspberryturk: (Almost Thoughtful There)

Today... Was a pizza day. Or, rather, a pizza with some salads on the side just-in-case day. Call Reno crazy, but he suspected that most of the students in his classroom hadn't been in any state of mind to go and get food yesterday after cleaning up from their respective traumas, and the weekend had been pretty low on eating for the people stuck in that wasteland with him, so...

He was sitting on the top of his desk, mowing down on a slice of pepperoni with extra cheese when the students made their way into the classroom today. He even stopped to chew and swallow before speaking! Be thankful.

I'm gonna try to take it easy on you today. )

"You ain't gonna see it comin'," Reno announced, the moment the butt of the last student to enter the classroom hit the chair. "I don't care if you been watchin' it fallin' down on your heads for weeks, I don't care if you were warned on the news, I don't care if you're the reason it happened or if you put your life on the line to keep it from happenin' or if some kinda magic vision popped into your head an' showed you exactly what tomorrow was gonna look like, yo. I don't friggin' care."

Apparently, Reno's caring reserves were running on empty, today? )

"Yo, class!" Reno stepped into the Danger Shop today with a small, twitchy grin on his lips. "Hands-on class today, I bet you're all thrilled, zoto."

He gestured around to a Danger Shop re-creation of a place that looked inhospitable, pure and simple. )

Perhaps surprisingly, Reno had the students meet in the classroom, today. If anybody asked, this was totally because being in the classroom meant that he could be lazy and slouch back against his desk.

"Yo!" Reno grinned and lifted his chin at the students gathered with a manly nod. "We're gonna take it easy today, yo. After this weekend, I ain't gonna be the one to go an' try to hit too many buttons talkin' morbid about the end of the world."

He'd save that for next week, or something. )

When the students stepped into the Danger Shop for Reno's class today, they'd find themselves stepping into lobby of the dormitory all over again, with a few pointed differences. There seemed to be a barricade built against the boarded-up windows, consisting of a good deal of the furniture that had clearly been dragged down from the floors above them. The power to the building had been cut off completely, which meant that they were sitting in near-absolute darkness, because naturally Reno was going to be an ass and set this scenario for the dead of night.

It wasn't pretty. )

[OCD is up! Have at it!]
raspberryturk: (And?)

When students arrived for class today, they’d step into a Danger Shop scene that looked something like a freeze-frame from a bad end of the world movie. They were standing in the middle of what looked to be endless wasteland, a dark greenish haze marring the sky somewhere beyond, on the horizon. And above them in the sky, there was a giant rock, burning and casting a red tinge on the few clouds above that weren’t a sick smog green. Hanging in the sky beside that meteor, less than a quarter of the size? Was the moon.

“Yo!” Yes, this was the traditional greeting of the being known as Reno, who sauntered into the Danger Shop a full five minutes late for his own first class of the term with his hands in his pockets and a smile on his face that suggested that he didn’t much give a damn what anybody thought about that fact, either. Maybe he was feeling lazy today. Maybe he just wanted to give his students a few minutes to stare up at the flaming ball of death that was looming above them.

“Welcome to the end of the world. An inescapable calamity that’ll fall down from above, wiping out all life on The Planet as we know it. And there ain’t nothin’ you can do but sit back and stare at the sky, counting down the days until it gets here. Technology won’t save you. The space program on your world is a joke, and the most powerful explosive that your world superpower could muster, that bad boy up there shrugged off like a mosquito, yo. There ain’t no hope. So!” Reno looked around at the students gathered around him, and then crossed his arms over his chest. “Introductions time, boys and girls. This is our first lesson together, an’ that’s as heavy as I’m gonna get on our first day. Name, age, what the hell you’re doin’ in a messed-up class like this one, and what you’d do with your last few weeks before rocks fall an’ everyone dies.”

Such a happy bunch of introduction questions!

“And Ino, after class, I wanna talk to you, yo. And your Rookie, too.”

Grissom is in a shockingly jovial mood. He's even rocking a costume and has candy (without bugs) for his students. Must have some good Halloween childhood memories buried somewhere.

Criminology

Here is the study guide for your midterm exam. [it will be an 'essay question', but feel free to study/stress]

To review, in class today I would like you to discuss one thing you have learned in this class so far, and how it either surprised you, or changed your mind in regards to a certain topic. If that is not the case in any aspect, why not?

Death and Dying

Discussion: Your homework was to Choose a death by suicide from Shakespeare's work, and share a short reaction to it. Please do so.

Your midterm exam will be on Wednesday! It will be an in-class essay, in a similar vein to the homework you are turning in. Using what you have learned in class, and moving on to our accidental death chapter, please analyze A Darwin Award Winner or Honourable Mention. You may bring in notes on one 3x5 index card.
