The Danger Shop was a hallway, all high contrast shadows as usual. At the end of it, there was a door, one that you might expect to lead into a detective's office in a '40s movie. (Spoiler: that was about exactly how the room beyond was like, too.) And The Spirit was standing outside said door.

He nodded at them again in greeting. "It's our last session, kiddos," he said. "And it's customary for you to have a final in the last session, so that's what we'll be doing." He jabbed a thumb back at the door behind him. "I want each of you to come through this door, one by one. This final's not a group effort. But you should all do well."

He gave them a brief smile, before turning to open the door, and gesture the first student inside.

The Danger Shop was a club today. And not just any kind of club, but one that seemed to fit the Spirit like a glove. It was shadowy and a bit noir and filled with classy people wearing late 1940s styles. "There are various types of charm to be employed here," the Spirit began. "Charm someone into buying you a drink. Charm someone into letting you buy them a drink. Charm someone out of beating you black and blue because you bought the wrong person a drink, or you took the wrong seat at a wrong table at the wrong time. Many possibilities. Keep your eyes open, and go explore."

With that, he waved the students off further into the simulation.

When the class met today in a regular classroom, the Spirit's hat looked a bit like it had been chewed on. There had been sharks in his town. Of course he'd been out and about trying to outwit them.

And getting inspiration for this session. "I hope everyone survived the weekend without too much damage," he said by way of greeting once the students had arrived. "Today, we'll be devoting some time to a discussion again. As you should all well know, charm – while useful in smoothing your way through life and its obstacles – isn't always the way to deal with things. Such as when encountering sharks raining from the sky. You can't charm a shark that's falling from the sky."

Trust him, he'd tried.

"So today, I'd like for us to talk about the alternatives. Come up with some scenarios where charm won't get you far, and we'll bounce the discussion off of those."

The Danger Shop it was again this week. When the students came in, they found themselves in what looked like a waiting room. There were comfortable chairs for them, and a door on the other side of the room. The Spirit was standing next to it, greeting them with a nod and a tip of his hat.

"Today you're doing a practical exercisein charming your way out of a situation. One at a time, right through this door here. Don't be scared, it's nothing too hard. Afterwards, we'll talk about how it went, and what you should perhaps take away from the experience." He nodded at a student at random. "You go first."

[ocd up! have at!]

The Danger Shop was a fancy-looking 1930s movie theater today. That may have had something to do with how you did not want to know about the Spirit's weekend. For all that he was doing his best to look composed, he actually looked pretty beat. And he had a healing factor.

It had not been a great weekend.

But he still tipped his hat to the student as they filed in. "Morning. Today, we'll be watching a film that a very kind person in the administration told me deals with some of the aspects of this workshop. So, sit yourselves down, kiddos, and enjoy the show."

Rejoice, class! The Spirit was actually present this week! They were in a normal classroom, and he was sitting on the edge of the desk up front with his legs stretched out, and his hat on the desk next to him. The rest of his outfit wasn't going anywhere, though. Not even the coat. He nodded in greeting at the students. "Hello, kids," he said. "I am the Spirit, and this is Charming Your Way Into And Out of Things. If you're in the wrong place ––" He smiled at them. "–– please consider staying anyway. Charm helps everyone and makes the world a little bit sweeter for all of us."

It had for him, at least. And he was technically dead so he needed all the sweetness he could find.

"I apologize for my absence last week, but I was urgently needed back in Central City. My thanks to Mr. Langstrom for stepping in." And for accepting mysterious letters as a valid mode of TA recruitment. "I won't make you introduce yourselves again, so this week, we're getting right to the basics. What all of you kidlets think charm is, and what it's good for. And after some discussion on that point, I'll ask you to pair up and practice a very basic charming action: complimenting each other. Now, let's get to it."

It wasn't everyday that you woke up to a mysterious note slipped under your door appointing you teacher's assistant for a class you weren't even sure you should be taking. But, that's what had happened to Theo this morning and that's why he was at the front of the class now. Ange was awash in excitement for this opportunity and Dev was probably a minute away from calling him a nerd.

The Spirit (and what a name that was) hadn't left him a lot of instructions. He'd just said 'be charming' after telling him he was the TA. What kind of instruction was that? How was Theo supposed to be charming? He was awkward as hell.

When everyone had filed in and found a seat, he said, "Uh, hey. So, I'm obviously not the guy that's supposed to be teaching this class but he's not here right now. I don't know where he is, actually but he left me a note that just said 'be charming.'"

And then he stopped and looked at the class like they might hold the answer. This whole thing wasn't helped by yet another argument going on in his head between Dev and Ange about what he should do. Dev basically wanted him to use his power for evil and make the class go get him food and a drink for breakfast. Ange, obviously, didn't like that.

"So, I guess we're gonna be charming today," he continued, trying to ignore the arguing by rubbing the side of his head and wincing. "I guess we'll do introductions since that's typically a first class thing. Introduce yourself in the most charming way possible."

Theo decided he'd just write up a roster and leave it for The Spirit. That done, he motioned for the first student to get started.
