Alex Cabot was not in the classroom today, but there was, helpfully, a message written on the blackboard.

Please Take One Exam
You May Use Your Notes
But Please, Do Not Work With Others
When You Are Finished, You May Leave

Odds were that that stack of papers on the desk were your final exams. Enjoy!

(Still on vacay, hence Alex's nonexistence. Wait for OCD plz?)

Alex was staying in the cabins. Because of bugs. Worse ones than the cockroaches in NYC. Alex did not want to talk about it.

The French Revolution, and the Trial of Louis XVI )

Alex's apartment had disappeared. Just after she left it. Alex had no idea exactly who was going to reimburse her for everything in her apartment that she was missing, much less what she was supposed to do tonight.

Alex tried to contain her grumpiness as she started her lecture.

International Jurisdiction: Mary, Queen of Scots and the Nuremberg Trials )

(OOC: the Nuremberg trials have a brief mention of the Holocaust, as well as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These topics might be further discussed in class, depending on how the discussions go. Please be warned.)

Alex was somewhat distracted by her concerns about her client, still locked up in Gotham City, and the upcoming trial. That was, however, no excuse not to teach a full, competent class.

She did let it influence her selection of topic, however.

Insanity and the M'Naghten Rules )

"Last week," Alex began, "we talked about two very different trials that hinged on the same issue: recanting your life's work when your life itself may hang in the balance. This week, we're going to take a look at two individuals who tried another option entirely -- talking your way out of it."

Clever Answers: Thomas More and Joan of Arc )

Alex was tired from her trip to Gotham, and distracted by concern about her new client. All the same, this week, their teacher was actually going to show up and teach the class. Wasn't that a novelty!

"Welcome," Alex said. "You have my apologies for deserting you last week. I hope none of you fared too poorly in my absence. To make it up to you, we'll discuss two different trials this week."

And because the two went together, and she'd intended to discuss them jointly on the syllabus, but those were details.

Socrates and Galileo )

Squall watched the hands of the clock slowly tick forward into the time that they should be having class. And one person was still very much not in the room.

With a grumpy sigh he stood up and walked to the front of the class.

(Why do these things always fall on me?)

"Okay, so it looks like Ms. Cabot is late," he announced. "I'm not the teacher, and I'm not the TA, but whatever. We should be doing something instead of just sitting around."

He shrugged. "We should do introductions, I guess, because that's what people do. My name is Squall Leonhart. Tell me yours, and then... I dunno. We should talk about trials, or whatever."

[OOC: Relly's feeling much better than she was yesterday, but she's still resting up. Class will be back to normal next week.]

Grissom is in a shockingly jovial mood. He's even rocking a costume and has candy (without bugs) for his students. Must have some good Halloween childhood memories buried somewhere.

Criminology

Here is the study guide for your midterm exam. [it will be an 'essay question', but feel free to study/stress]

To review, in class today I would like you to discuss one thing you have learned in this class so far, and how it either surprised you, or changed your mind in regards to a certain topic. If that is not the case in any aspect, why not?

Death and Dying

Discussion: Your homework was to Choose a death by suicide from Shakespeare's work, and share a short reaction to it. Please do so.

Your midterm exam will be on Wednesday! It will be an in-class essay, in a similar vein to the homework you are turning in. Using what you have learned in class, and moving on to our accidental death chapter, please analyze A Darwin Award Winner or Honourable Mention. You may bring in notes on one 3x5 index card.
