Cara had a sheaf of stained paper that smelled very strongly of rum with her today. "Vicious mockery," she said. "Apparently bards get the best spells."

"How is that a spell?" Jane asked, frowning at her book on the matter. "That just seems mean."

"It makes your words do more than hurt their feelings." Just because Cara hadn't tortured anyone in years...because it was wrong, didn't mean she couldn't see the applications there.

"Apparently it causes psychic damage," Jane added, still frowning. Because that was just too spot on, WotC. And rude. "We thought it would be a good spell for you all to try out, but now I'm a little worried."

"That's what these are for," Cara said, waving the paper. "Since you still have to live with each other, I raided the radio archives, barely anyone mentioned in these is still on the island, and those of us who have should have thicker skins by now."

Somewhere... Anakin was worried.

"Well, I guess that works..." Take it and run, Cara. She was weak!

"Everyone take a random page of notes, and see what you can come up with." Was Cara giving away her radio process here? Maybe.

It was the usual tavern set up for class this week, complete with NPCakin behind the bar. For the ambience. Clearly.

"Dexterity saving throws," Jane said, eyeing the assortment of things on the bar for throwing. It was a lot of weapons. A whole lot of weapons. They were really testing those safety protocols there. "Something that can get you out of danger according to the book. Well, mostly out of danger sometimes."

And Cara was laying out even more weapons, and occasionally testing one for heft. "It measures how good you are at dodging."

"We also have dodgeballs," Jane assured the class. "Just... behind the bar."

Not with the weapons. How did she have so many?

Because the Danger Shop was magic, that was how. "Also, we've spiced things up by setting it so if you do get hit, interesting things happen." No, Cara would not be defining interesting.

"...you found the wild magic table, didn't you?" Of course she did, Jane!

Cara just smiled and tossed a set of percentile dice from hand to hand.

The tavern wasn't on fire this time around! Which was nice, right? It was nice to not have real fake danger in class.

"Sometimes fighting isn't the best option, Jane informed the class. "Sometimes you want to try talking. Like normal people."

Wrong game, Dr. Foster.

"Sometimes if you're skilled enough at talking people won't try to fight you anymore." That was remarkably diplomatic of you, Cara. "Because they'll be too scared to."

Ah.

"And there's also lying to them." Awww. Now she was thinking about Loki. Who may or may not be dead. Again.

"Basically, people are dumb and can be talked into pretty much anything." What a heartwarming take on human nature there.

Jane made a face, but didn't disagree with that. "So, let's try this out with some dice rolls."

Hope none of you picked charisma as your dump stat.

There had been some flowers for the class, but they were presently charred and faintly smoking still. An apt metaphor for being single on Valentine's Day for some maybe!

Jane mostly just looked sad at all those nice flowers being destroyed.

"So, we're back to working on the game systems and apparently that's what happens when you roll a 1?" Which seemed harsh.

"Yes, a 1," Cara said in the tones of someone who totally hadn't gotten a nat 20 on their burning evil flowers roll. "It seems when you do that it's a terrible failure."

Jane was just trying to spread the cheer, Cara! Couldn't you accept her flowers?

"And a 20 is a resounding success." Like burning all the flowers in a spectacular way. "Which means today we'll be testing out the dice to see what our odds are of getting these."

Enjoy only getting crits on perception checks and 1's on every combat roll, folks.

"We also have quite a lot of dice," Cara added, not realising just how many dice qualified as a lot of dice in this hobby.

"Some of them light up!" Jane added. "And there's a giant set too."

Still... not as much as the hobby demanded you buy like a cruel temptress.

The tavern was set up with pillows and what looked to be sleeping bags. They could have been bedrolls, but the programming just went with what it went with.

And one teacher was clutching a mug of tea and looking sheepish. "Apparently Mjolnir doesn't protect from sore throats,"" Jane croaked.

"And if you don't have access to a handy wizard." Or you didn't trust the vile concoctions Zedd insisted on using instead of magic. "The best way of healing is a 'long rest'."

Jane nodded encouragingly at that, not able to agree out loud without coughing at the moment. But she hoped she was impressing the importance of rest in combination with both the class and, well, life in general.

Mostly it just looked like nodding.

"Which is why today we're going to be roleplaying taking a long rest." Or 'roleplaying' as the case might be.r
