"Apologies for missin' last class, but there was a problem in the dungeon I needed to take care of," Senshi said once everyone had shown up. "But that's okay, because it's this week that's the important one. That's right, it's time to harvest what we've been growin'! Now, when it's time to harvest, be careful not to break, nick or bruise them. The less you handle your vegetables, the longer they'll last in storage. For things like carrots an' radishes, loosen the soil around the root with your hands, then pull roots from the ground by their stem and greens. For the salad greens and the spinach we planted, you want to use scissors to cut as close to the main stem as possible without disrupting the main stem or the root ball. Probably best to leave about one to two inches of the newly cut lettuce leaf stem just to be safe and don't cut the smaller leaves at the base of the plant."

He smiled at the class. "See, nice and easy. Grab some colanders - better than bowls so you can rinse the veggies and the water just runs out - and some sharp scissors and start harvestin'! I'll take any vegetables that nobody wants. No reason to let 'em go to waste, but I do suggest that you make a nice salad with them. Nothin' like fresh veggies you grew yourself, I can tell you that."

"We're talkin' bugs today," Senshi said once everyone had arrived for class. "One of the worst things to hit any garden, bugs can kill an entire harvest without breakin' a sweat. Now, to be sure, there are some bugs you wanna see in your gardens: ladybugs, praying mantises, orbweaver spiders, and dragonflies are good at killin' the bugs that wanna kill your plants, and bees and wasps are good pollinators, though it's up to you whether the benefits of havin' wasps in your garden outweigh the dangers."

Senshi certainly thought so, but he was pretty sure he was in the minority.

"There are ways to protect your flowers and veggies just by how you plant 'em. Plantin' stuff mixed in with marigolds or lavender or onions or garlic is a good way to fool bugs about what's there. Herbs are good for that, too. Coverin' your plants with a light fabric that's airy enough to let sunshine and air through, but a careful enough weave to keep the bugs out. But, in the end, the best way to keep bugs off your plants is by takin' good care to inspect your plants for damage and try to keep ahead of any infestations you find. Bugs breed fast, so the later you notice the signs of 'em, the harder it's gonna be to get rid of 'em."

The then launched into a long explanation of various destructive bugs and the kinds of damage to be on the lookout for. "Now, one of the best ways to take care of bad bugs is by introducin' good bugs, but not everybody wants to spend time runnin' around tryin' to catch ladybugs and orb weavers. Another useful trick is usin' soap and water, but you gotta be really thorough with it, makin' sure you are coverin' the bugs with the spray. A little bit of soap on 'em, or soap on leaves they're gonna eat later won't hurt 'em. Also, there are a number of plants that don't do well with soap and a number of bugs that won't be harmed by it at all. That's when we get into our natural insecticides. Vinegar, garlic, or spicy peppers mixed with water and dish soap are three useful additives that kill more bugs more efficiently than just soap alone. Today, while you're waterin' your plants, I want you to look 'em over real carefully for any signs of bug damage. An' regardless of the answer, you're gonna make up a bottle or two of a natural insecticide. Either leave it here or bring it home, but make sure to bring it to the garden every week now to keep your gardens lookin' healthy."

"Now that the seedlings have sprouted their first set of true leaves, it's time to start thinnin' 'em out. The first little leaves that emerge after a seedling sprouts are the cotyledon, or the seed leave. These often don't look anything at all like smaller versions of the plant's mature leaves. The second set of leaves are the true leaves, and are a little more recognizable, and when you see 'em growin' in, it's time to think about thinnin'. Thinnin' plants just means checkin' over your beds an' removin' any plants growin' too close to the others, which will give the rest a chance to grow better and stronger. Overcrowded plants often grow leggy, which means they basically grow too tall and thin in their search for more water or nutrients, and show signs of stress. Plants that spend too long all stressed out will never produce as well as plants that grew up with plenty of room to grow. This is especially true for root crops. They're extra sensitive to havin' anythin' too close to them, especially other roots."

Mood, little plants. Who doesn't become stressed when they're too closely surrounded by others?

"When you're lookin' for which plants to trim, go for the ones that look skinnier and spindly if you can, and try to keep the healthier and stronger-lookin' ones. If they all look the same, go for the one that frees up the most space for the rest; it's all about doin' your best to give the rest of 'em a fightin' chance. To thin most plants, cut the target seedling across the stem as close to the earth as you can with a pair of sharp scissors or a knife if you're comfortable with that. Don't try to pull the seedlings up completely, as movin' the root systems can damage the underdeveloped roots of other neighborin' seedlings. The exception to that room is when you're thinnin' root veggies, like carrots, radishes, and potatoes, when you do have to remove the whole plant. For that, you grip the stem firmly as close to soil level as possible, while holdin' down the soil firmly with your other hand. Gently pull the plant directly up, while trying not to disturb the soil and any neighborin' plants. And then, once all your plants seem healthy and have room to grow, you're done.

"Now, thinnin' may seem like a terrible waste of good plants, but if you're growing for the kitchen in many cases you can use the thinned seedlings productively. Many edible plants produce shoots with an intense flavor that packs the mature taste into a few tiny leaves. So if you're thinnin' pea shoots, for example, use the snipped seedlings in a salad for a burst of sweet, grassy flavor. The same goes for many herbs, salad leaves, brassica shoots, and lots. If you can eat the mature leaves, then you can eat the thinned shoots too. But take care over tomatoes, potatoes, chillies, and other members of the nightshade family - their leaves and stems often contain. traces of toxins, even at the seedling stage, and so don't be tempted into an experimental nibble. Some other plants can be replanted somewhere else where they have more room to grow, too. Maybe even turn themselves around and become the healthiest plan you've got. Lastly, for all non-edible seedlings, remove the thinnin's to your compost rather than leaving them to rot in place, as some of the more vigorous species can re-root if left on the soil surface."

And that lecture over with, he shooed them off to their garden plots with scissors and knives to begin thinning. "Don't forget to check if they need more water!" he called after them. "It's still been really got, so I'd be surprised if they didn't!"

"Now, you all seem pretty smart," Senshi said in his usual soft rumble, "so you already know that waterin' your garden is important, especially in weather this hot." He mopped his forehead with a hanky and then tucked it away somewhere under his beard. "But knowin' that it's important to water doesn't mean you know how to water. Like, waterin' this late in the day isn't the best idea. The soil's had a chance to get real warm and warmth plus damp is a great way to get fungus to grow and insects to swarm. The best time to water is in the mornin's, usually before 10am, while the soil is at its coolest. Which doesn't mean much in this weather, but every little bit counts and it's a good habit to get into. The worst time to water your vegetables is in the afternoons; most of that water will just evaporate before it does anythin' at all.

"Now, because we've got a layer of mulch down, our soil's a little bit cooler and has better water retention, which cuts down a little on how often we need to water them, but we still have to. Plants in the ground need one inch of water per week and even more when they're seedlings. I've been handlin' that for you, but from now on, it's gonna be your responsibility to keep your plants watered correctly - you may wanna come back another day in the week and check on the soil--what we'll cover today should be enough, but a little extra care, won't hurt. So, the first question is when should you water? While we have a rough idea how often different plants need waterin', there's a real easy way to test: if the soil sticks to your palm and you can form it into a ball, it's damp enough. But, if it barely holds together in the palm of your hand, or if the surface looks hard, baked, or cracked, it is probably dry, and it's time to water. See if the soil is dry an inch below the surface; that means it needs water, too. Once you've determined if your plants need water, the next thing to figure out is how to water."

He shook his head. "Most folks think you can just pour some water over the top of the plants and that'll be fine. They're wrong. Most of what you get from that is leaf disease. What you want in a healthy plant is deep root penetration, and the only way that you're goin' to get deep roots is if there is water down deep. So you're gonna wanna get down and pour water on the soil around the base of the plant directly, so you know it's goin' down where you want it to. You wanna try to get that water to go down about five or six inches to encourage deep root growth - it's not great if you water too quickly and the water doesn't penetrate far enough. Encourages the roots to grow thin and shallow. For best results, pour your water right at the base and let it soak all the way down. Feel free to stick a finger in there to see how far it got. It'll take longer than you think, but this is gardenin'. Bein' patient is what it's about."

Class was once again meeting at their garden plots and the first thing Senshi did was hand out canteens of water and straw hats, much like the one he was wearing.

Still over his helmet, yes.

"In heat like this, it's important to stay well-hydrated," he told them, "and try to keep as cool as possible. Sunhats like this will shade your eyes and will also keep your face and neck out of the direct sunlight so you're less likely to burn. If you start feelin' dizzy or headachy, and weirdly cold and clammy, sit down and drink more water, real slow. If you start gettin' confused or you feel like you're gonna pass out, just call out and we'll get you to the healing mages as fast as we can."

Yeah, he was still a little confused about how things worked.

"Otherwise, we're gonna start talkin' about plantin' today," he continued. "I got a bunch of different, fast-growin' seeds for you here: radishes, salad greens, carrots, and spinach. So first, you're gonna feel your soil. Hopefully it's still cool, soft, and kinda damp from all that compost we added last week. If it is, that's great. Otherwise, water it just enough till it gets soft and a bit damp. We don't want it waterlogged. Now, for radishes, Sow the plump seeds very thinly, spacing 'em about two and a half centimeters apart. I guess that's called an inch here?" Weird. "Sowin' small batches every few weeks until the very end of summer will get you a continuous crop. For the mix of salad green seeds, sow 'em real thin into drills spaced around 15 to 25cm apart - 6 to 10 inches, I guess? Cover the seeds back over then gently pat the surface of the soil down around 'em. Gently. For the carrots, sow the seeds into drills spaced about 15cm err...6 inches? apart, cover back over with soil, and water. Again, a whole lot, don't wash the seeds away. And then for spinach, you're gonna wanna find the shadiest spot in your garden - or at least keep 'em out of direct sun, or they'll grow so fast they'll be bitter. Make rows about 30cm apart, which is something called a foot?, and then set the seeds an that inch amount apart. Once you've got the seeds all planted, water 'em carefully, and then come back and get yourselves your--" he gestured to a pile of what looked like black fabric.

Because it was, it could just be built into garden plot cover to keep your tiny plants from burning in the heat. So sow your seeds, set up the covers over your garden plot, and then feel free to head out of the sun and into somewhere cooler.

The students had been directed to meet at the Community Garden, where they would be met by a Senshi dressed exactly as he had for trekking into the dungeon, save for the addition of a straw hat pulled over his helmet, complete with holes for his helm's horns to poke through.

"Welcome to Grow Your Own Garden," he said when his students arrived. "I'm a big fan of sustainability and believe that food tastes better the closer to home it comes. You just can't beat the feelin' and flavor of vegetables you grew yourself. Also, it's one more way you can increase your self-sufficiency, because knowin' how to provide for yourself is important. I know the first week is supposed to be for introductions, but we need to take advantage of all the growin' time we've got. So we'll be combinin' introductions with learnin' how to prep the soil of our garden so we can be ready to plant next week."

Soil Preparation )

He gestured to four large sacks behind them. "Now, most compostin' should happen in the fall an' winter to make sure the compost has a lot of time to finish decomposin' before you start plantin' in it. Now, the compost we have here are quite aged, so all we gotta do is spread it over the top of your garden and then mix it with with your trowel. Then you can wait a week and it'll be ready and rarin' to go with the actual plantin'."

There might have been a tear in Zhaan's eyes as she gazed at her students. She seemed rested, however, and possibly full of basking in the sun good tea. The bunny slippers even seem chirpier. "I hope you enjoy the summer off, class."

Without saying more, she hands back everyone's finals, including their grades.

I hope your day has been going well." She was glad to see they were all over being children. Not that they weren't still children in her eyes, but they weren't quite so small now.

"I hope you all remembered to bring your plants for me to look over." Handing out the finals, Zhaan gestured gracefully, "You have several days until the end of this class period to finish. I should have your grades by Friday, if you'd like to stop back here for one last meeting."

Settling back down at her desk, Zhaan began scribbling notes in the margins of a book.

Today, Zhaan was in business attire (again), although the bunny slippers are still prominent. She smiled at the class as they filed in. "I hope you've had an enjoyable week."

She picked up the small potted plant sitting next to her hand and turned it, "Many people believe plants to be faceless, unimportant things. Plants have no feelings, plants don't hurt, plants don't think." Setting it down with a click, she continued, "Many people would be right about many plants. But not all.

Zhaan had appropriated a microscope capable of magnifying highly enough to see cell membranes. It was sitting on the table, taking pride of place while she poked through the box of slides she'd also scrounged.

As the class arrived, she absently waved at them before tossing the box into the trash can, causing the sound of breaking glass. She frowned, then opened the box of blank slides, "This is very unfortunate. I should have been better prepared..." Without waiting for the class to respond, she slipped out the door, muttering about Batou finally being some use.

Zhaan was perched on a stool, reading through a stack of notes. As the students file in, she gestures vaguely to the quizzes in a stack. "Take one, read the questions and answer to the best of your abilities."

Bunny slippers propped up on a nearby chair, Zhaan sat leaning back, her entire expression one of meditation. Although the posture wasn't exactly common for her, she'd seen others adopt it and had decided to give it a try. Naturally, she'd gotten completely distracted.

Students appearing made her shift slightly and then smile.

"Hello, class." Dropping her feet, she stood and picked up the glossy photos she'd printed from the web, "today, I'd like to discuss one of the largest organisms on your planet. The Sequoia .

"Known to live for thousands of years, they grow to excessive heights." Zhaan paused, "One must imagine the life they have seen for that time. The wars they've witnessed, the young lovers that frolicked beneath them. Plants see everything that occurs, and rarely tell of it. Even to each other, they're more interested in the dance of the bee, the delicate step of the aphid."

Fingering one of the photos, she shook off the slight dreamy nature of her tone and continued briskly, "Conservation on your planet is sadly lacking, with much of the natural flora being razed to produce meat animals. Rather a pity, considering that plants are there to keep things balanced and healthy.

"Not that humans are the only destroyers of living creatures. The Peacekeepers--" She broke off, suddenly looking sheepish. "My humble apologies, children. I forget myself. Please read up on the sequoia. And have a lovely, death-free, weekend."

Today, Zhaan was in grey again, something somber in her mood. The bunny slippers are still in evidence, however. On the desk in front of her are several books, volumes of fairy tales and folk tales, at least one dictionary.

"I have been doing investigation into a phenomenon I have no name for. Perhaps there isn't one, other than allegory and poetic license. Humans have a tendency to use plants in their language, in their stories. Sometimes, as illustrations of good or bad. Sometimes as a means to an end, sometimes the plants are even aware." Zhaan flipped open one of the books and paged through.

"Plants are the ever-present background in stories as they are in life. Forests, fields, even grass is often mentioned. Special trees, talking bushes, leaves of gold and silver... The woodsmen are highly prized. A man who chops down a cherry tree is forever marked. Fairy tales in particular have a love of the woodland green."

Her gaze grows distant, "Plants as the enemy is often a theme -- Sleeping Beauty, trapped in her castle by menacing roses. Rapunzel's lover, thrown from the tower to have his eyes pierced by rose-thorns, not to mention her mother being consumed with a need for lettuce." The gaze sharpens, "Yet, Jack climbs the beanstalk to reclaim his life, young Ashenputtle's mother's spirit lives on in the tree over her grave, and the Reed survives the storm by bending to the wind."

A chuckle escaped her. "Perhaps these are simply ornaments of story. Perhaps they are the authors' way of allowing their plants to live on, as they allow the people they knew to filter through the mirror of prose."

"Your homework for the week is to find a story where a plant plays a significant role. Write a hundred words describing it, the tale it's within, and whether it's there for good, bad, or simply as an observer and catalyst. It's due next Wednesday."

[All hail the shelf of fairy stories... Messirs. Grimm, Andersen, and Aesop. Not to mention the original inspiration: Datlow & Windling's title 'Black Thorn, White Rose']
[identity profile] notavegetarian.livejournal.com
Today, Zhaan was wearing a simple grey robe that swept the floor (covering the bunny slippers), in her hands were pruning shears. In front of her was an over-grown, bulky thing.

"At times, you will find your plant growing too bulky." Her tone was carefully crisp, "Unlike most creatures, plants do notice when they lose things like leaves and twigs. But they are, at times, the better for it. And one must, in the end, cut back on the sheer amount of plant."

Caressing one of the gnarled branches, Zhaan smiled, "This won't hurt much, my dear." She snipped it off and set it to the side, quickly dealing with several other hanging pieces that were obstructing healthy growing. Then she glanced at the class. "You must be careful how much you cut. Be wise in your decision and leave room for the plant to expand. If there are too many branches, the whole will collapse inwards unhealthily."

Setting the shears down, she reached for the small pot to the side, bringing it forward and carefully poking a finger into it. "Depending on the nature of the plant you've cut, you can then transfer the cut pieces to grow their own roots."

Two of the twigs slid in neatly and she tamped the soil gently around them. "Be certain to water them, but not too much. And, as always, ascertain how they are by listening."

Dusting her hands, she looked at the class, "I hope you all have a lovely weekend."

[Sorry for the lateness, I started dinner and got sidetracked finishing a desktop... MY UNDYING LOVE to Nick Fury of Sages of Chaos for giving me something to write about.]

Tonight, Zhaan was wearing a pin-striped suit. The slippers were in evidence, looking quite smart themselves. Folding her hands neatly in front of her, Zhaan started her lecture.

"Some would say plants are solitary creatures. And for some species, this is certainly true." Zhaan held up a photo of a saguaro cactus, "Even with their stately grace, however, you'll note the scrub growing around them. Some of this is simply due to the cactus bringing water to the surface. It's also due simply to the nature of plants: they thrive on contact with one another."

A smile lurked around Zhaan's lips, "Some plants even have a sort of language they speak. If you listen carefully, you might hear it."

"It's difficult, for plants to be on their own. They lose a sense of community. They feel alienated and alone." Possibly, she was going a little too close to her own experience. "Luckily, plants adapt and change with their environment. Two completely different species can learn to co-exist."

Shaking the sense of connectiveness off, Zhaan smiled, "And now, I believe I requested you turn in essays."

[*tries not to be distracted by Bones*]
[identity profile] notavegetarian.livejournal.com
Zhaan was poking at a planter containing several purple flowers and several rather weedy-looking things. She looked up when the class came in. "Once you've begun to grow things, in a less controlled environment than one pot, you'll inevitably find that other things encroach on the territory. Some are harmless. Some, like Purple Loosestrife are invasive and can destroy the eco-system they take over." Much like the Peacekeepers. Zhaan refrained from scowling.

"There are ways of dealing with unwanted plants." Beheading. Torture. "They range from the simple method of removing them," she demonstrated by grabbing one of the purple-flowered plants and yanking it from the box, "to using destructive chemicals," Her tone of voice was frigid. Obviously, chemicals and plants were a bad idea, "To the introduction of natural predators."

She flicked a bug off one of the leaves and smiled. It might have been a nice smile.

"I expect you all to try not to kill each other over the weekend. I'd recommend not going crazy, either." With that, she wriggled her toes in her bunny slippers and went about removing the purple looosestrife from her planter.

Today was a dark brown pants suit. The bunny slippers are noticeable, but only if you're really looking.

"Cannibalism." The word dropped into the air of the classroom like a small gold watch falling onto a train track, just waiting to be smashed. Zhaan smiled, which might have looked a little frightening. "The consumption of matter from your own biological species. In this case, plants mulched with compost.

"Not that it's a bad idea. In fact, the nutrients released by dead plants decomposing are essential for a growing plant." She shifted, glad she'd worn her slippers again, as they were comfortable. "In much the same way humans garner nutrients from other animal matter, plants gather from other plants. In some cases, this can lead to a sort of hierarchy. Roses are eaten by weeds, weeds are eaten by bushes, bushes are eaten by trees." Not that the chain was truly that straight-forward. But discussing the moral relativism of any living being was always amusing.

"Some plants, however, are omnivorous, and thrive on animal matter as easily as they do on plant. These are the plants which will most likely survive long periods without one or the other." Unless you were a delvian, and starving. That, however, was a conversation for another time.

"As homework, I'd like you to compose a 100-word description of what your plant has gone through. Was it happy? Sad? Did you talk to it too much or too little, did you always remember to water it and give it light?" She folded her hands neatly and smiled. "Questions?"

Once again, Zhaan was carefully attired. This time in pale blue and tweed. The bunny slippers, however, were still on her feet.

"Good afternoon." She cast a glance around the class and smiled, "Thank you all for I hope bringing your plants with you, as requested. I trust you spoke with them, during the intervening day.

"There are many sides of thought regarding interaction with growing plants. Some--those rooted in logic--claim it does nothing save waste your own energy. Others believe that it causes the plants to flourish, while others hypothesize that the nature of emotion, the words, even the exact way phrases are said cause minute changes in a plant's physical structure." She paused, and absently made a note before continuing, "There is scientific proof that sound waves cause changes in every physical structure--mostly at the microscopic level. And, even humans are affected by sound. Loud ones, soft ones--is it an angry sound or a happy sound, these influence how the human body reacts. The same can be said of plants."

Dropping the lecturing tone, Zhaan tilted her head, "Your assignment for the next week is to continue as you've begun: care for your plant."

Wriggling her toes in her slippers, she smiled. "Any questions?"

[eek. sorry for lateness. OCD threads in a moment up.]

The classroom had been slightly dusty, so Zhaan had shown up early enough to brush the film from the surfaces they'd require. She'd then gone over her notes, checked that her rather casual attire of deep blue robe and fluffy bunny slippers (easily hidden under the hem of the robe, and replaceable with quite serviceable boots for the walk back home) hadn't picked up a mote of dust, and then settled down.

As the students trickled in, she arose and smiled. "I am Pa'u Zhotah Zhaan, and I'd like to welcome you back to Cultivation and Gardening. Mr. Justin Quayle, rather sadly, had to leave us, and I've been asked to cover his position through the end of the semester.

"I do hope," said Zhaan, head tilted slightly as she studied the students, meeting their eyes carefully. "That you have all been taking care of your plants. My predecessor has left notes, which gives me a beginning point and a possible end."

She paused, shuffling the papers on her desk, then smiled serenely. "Perhaps starting with something simple? On Friday, I'd like to view your plants. Your assignment until then is to talk to them, entertain them. Treat them with respect. And don't forget to water them."

Obviously if you didn't take good care of your plant, it will die or it has already died. But, today you're going to get the chance to plant something new, something different to you or your culture."

Infront of each student is a pot, some fertilizer and a box of seeds ranging from every corner of this galaxy or the next.

Choose something that won't eat you.

Class is cancelled due to severe illness, thanks to that lovely snow storm over the weekend.

Assignment:Write a small description of your plants progress, given the current conditions and the conditions of the cold over last weekend.

A note has been tacked to the door:

No class today! It's snowy, and I live over yonder in town. If you think I'm coming over there to teach for a period and trek back? You're insane.

Alternate assignment: Take a heat lamp [below in a box] and keep your plants warm over the snowy weekend!

"Today we're going to learn about the Ancient Egyptian Agriculture and the Origins of Horticulture." Justin smiles at his small class, handing out some lecture notes with the information that he'll talk about today on them.

Discussion: What is the most interesting thing about Egyptian Agriculture in your eyes?

Feeling slightly better from earlier in the week, Justin is suited up in clothes he's not afraid to get dirty and he has his gloves on, "Your plants have been in those pots for two weeks now, it's time to re-pot them into bigger pots so they can have enough room to spread their roots." he demonstrates with one violet he planted on the same day they did, it looks easily enough but he knows the whole 'not making a mess' thing is the hardest part.

"Today, I want to discuss the growth factors for plants and the optimum amount for each factor. I also, want to talk about what can happen to the plant of there is an excess or deficiency of the factors." Justin smiles and continues his short lecture.

"Take home the small True/False test and bring it to me next class period. Have a jolly nice day!

[[ OOC: Sorry this is up late. Haven't been feeling to swell. OCD threads are coming up! ]]

Justin snivels as he enters the class room, he's got a bunch of tissues in one hand and his grade book in the other, "Good day class, excuse my sickness. I looked over your potted plants, the ones you left here anyways, and each and everyone of you did a wonderful job! Today there won't be much because of my underlying condition right now."

He writes the following on the board: Write a short story with anything to do with Gardening. Afterwards, he takes a seat near the greenhouse, trying his best not to infect the students. He should go see Greg right now but he has to teach today atleast.

"Welcome back to class. I sure hope that you read the small class syllabus that I gave you enough time to read." he slips on some planting gloves, each student has gloves and a list:

Materials

variety of seeds (corn, red kidney beans, sunflower, lima beans, chick peas, violets, roses etc.)

soil, water

containers for planting seeds in

measuring devices

markers for writing names on containers

"Now, please pour an even amount of soil into your containers, you're allowed to plant as many seedlings as you can today. Mininum is 5 and Maximum is 10. And please, choose different kinds of seeds to plant."

"Welcome to Cultivation and Gardening, I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun this year even if it's a very small group once again. I suppose this will give me enough time with each of you, tending to any personal projects you want to work on or if you have any problems." Justin clears his throat.

"Now, Please sign-in and take a seat anywhere in the room. Before I had out the syllabus, please stand and tell me and the rest of the class why you signed up for Cultivation and Gardening. Get to know your fellow students." after the introductions he pulls out a stack of papers, which contains the Class Syllabus, "Take this and read it. Please follow everything on there and make sure you're ready on Friday for your first planting."

"That's all for today, nothing too hard. Enjoy your week, and I'll see you Friday!"

Justin is mulling about in his office, he occassionally says something shrewd in British slang to the computer because it was acting all psycho on him. He had been dreaming thinking about Greg all day, and he couldn't concentrate at all.

Send your tired, your poor, your huddled masses for Add slips and the etc!

Since classes are cancelled for the rest of the week, Justin opens his office to anyone who would want to come in and speak to him. He's trying his best not to yell at the computer in front of him, technology wasn't his strong suit.
