"Apologies for missin' last class, but there was a problem in the dungeon I needed to take care of," Senshi said once everyone had shown up. "But that's okay, because it's this week that's the important one. That's right, it's time to harvest what we've been growin'! Now, when it's time to harvest, be careful not to break, nick or bruise them. The less you handle your vegetables, the longer they'll last in storage. For things like carrots an' radishes, loosen the soil around the root with your hands, then pull roots from the ground by their stem and greens. For the salad greens and the spinach we planted, you want to use scissors to cut as close to the main stem as possible without disrupting the main stem or the root ball. Probably best to leave about one to two inches of the newly cut lettuce leaf stem just to be safe and don't cut the smaller leaves at the base of the plant."

He smiled at the class. "See, nice and easy. Grab some colanders - better than bowls so you can rinse the veggies and the water just runs out - and some sharp scissors and start harvestin'! I'll take any vegetables that nobody wants. No reason to let 'em go to waste, but I do suggest that you make a nice salad with them. Nothin' like fresh veggies you grew yourself, I can tell you that."

There was, admittedly, a certain kind of quiet thrill in Eleanor for the harvesting process. Something about actually seeing the results of their hard work in her hands as she loosened roots from the soil or carefully trimmed her greens and set them gently aside. Were her vegetables perfect? Not even close. But were they seemingly healthy and good enough? Without a doubt. And she thought about her grandma Persephone in her greenhouse, similarly tending to her flowers and herbs for poisons and potions with as much attention and care and wondered if she'd be proud. She hoped so, leaning more into her tendency to protect and cultivate, in growing things, and away from more destructive side of her.

Because of that, she was already thinking about maybe seeing if she could fit a quick trip home in after class. Margaret would appreciate the fresh vegetables, she could check in on how Luma and Rhys were doing, maybe talk with Luma about her greenhouse plans. It probably wouldn't be an easy visit, but it might still be a good one, especially bearing gifts of goodwill. They'd be much better in Margaret's sturdy hands than her own, anyway.

"Looks like you got a good crop," Kamala said looking at El's harvest. "I think your thumb is greener than mine."

"Maybe a little bit," Eleanor allowed, with a soft, pleased sort of smile and a glance toward Kamala's for a quick comparison. "But, hey, that's alright. You've only just started your Home for Wayward Plants, and I've had mine for a while now."

Plus, Eleanor did sort of have the pressure of familial approval hanging on just how green her thumb could be.

She nodded a little toward Kamala's.

"What were your plans for yours?"

She had a sneaking suspicion that 'eating them' wasn't at the top of her list.

'Eating them' would first involve 'cooking them' and she didn't have the first clue about that.

"Oh, I was going to put them in the kitchen at Midnight and tell everyone to help themselves," Kamala said honestly. "And if someone did do something with them I'd hope they'd share them with me. And I think I'm going to need a new plant because I don't think it's fair to have an odd number because I think the first two are shutting out the shrimp plant. They need to have a friend."

"Well, that's rude of them," said Eleanor, with a soft, amused smile. "I'd have expected Plant Parenthood plants to have been raises better than that! But I guess I'll have to start thinking about what new plant could make a good companion for thr shrimp.

"Have you given it a name yet?"

"I've been calling them Shrimpy which might be the reason for the shutting out. The lack of a B name," Kamala said sincerely. "Which quite frankly is on me. So the next plant will also have an S name and that way everything will be in balance."

"Yeah." Despite herself, Eleanor had to laugh a little bit at that. "I'm pretty sure calling it Shrimpy was just setting it up for failure right from the get-go. Although I like it. It fits, but that's such an easy target for the other plants to make fun of it...We'll find Shrimpy a good companion, though, and then maybe they call all get along, too. I'd hate to see your room becoming a breeding ground for plant-wise cliques and gangs."

"Yeah, I don't think I can deal with all the tension if that happened," Kamala agreed with a giggle. "And this of course gives me just another excuse to come by the shop and.... support local businesses."

Not just visit her girlfriend. Nope. Not at all.

Oh, no, perish the thought! Surely, Kamala would never!

That giggle had that expected effect of just making Eleanor's grin grow particular fond and warm as it broadened.

"Always good to..." She paused in the same way for extra effect, "support local businesses. I'm sure Nell greatly appreciates your continued patronage."

After all, she ans Gladio had to pay for the new hot tub they were getting this week somehow!

"Well, I'm probably her best customer at this point," Kamala joked. "My room will look like a jungle by the time I've graduated."

"That sounds really nice, actually," said Eleanor, even able to picture it now that she'd seen Kamala's room. "Although they'd have to compete with space for all your hero stuff, all your posters and drawings and everything else..."

"I'd like to think I can find an environmental balance between my hero memorabilia and the eventual jungle that will be my room," Kamala replied.

Who is she kidding? The memorabilia will always win.

"Or I'll just get a bigger room."

That was more likely.

"Thankfully," Eleanor noted, "I think it's still going to take adding a lot more plants before you get to that point."

Which meant a long timeline of stopping in for the next one, oh noooo, whatever would they do?

In this timeline Nell and Gladio were going to be able to afford an outdoor kitchen along with the hot tub.

“I guess that means I’ll have plenty of excuses to drop by then!” Kamala said cheerfully.

He's harvesting his own crops.
