"Morning everyone," Summer began, once her students settled in. "Welcome to our last class together. I hope you all enjoyed this semester, I know I did. You've been a wonderful class," she added.

"Today's your final exam. Now, I've made up a short exam of questions on some of what we've learned and there's a part where you can write about a myth you've found most intriguing and why. That's all there is to it. If you finish early, drop it off on my desk and then you are free to leave."

"Since next week is final exams, I thought we could use today's class as a review session," Summer explained.

"Do you have any questions about anything we've covered? I'd be more than happy to field questions on anything we've studied up to now. Feel to look over your notes, study in groups or alone," she continued. "I was also wondering if there were any myths or legends you knew of, that you wish we'd talked about throughout the course?"

It would be a help to her, should she want to teach this class again at some point.

"We'll be meeting in our regular classroom next week. Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask."

Summer waited until her class settled in, before she began the lecture. "Hey guys, I apologize for having to handwavily cancel class before now. Things came up but everything is settled now. So, let me make up for that by covering a couple of topics today."

Making up for missed classes! )

"Now, that's what I've gathered from mythology. What about you? What do you know about naiads and mermaids?" She was curious to hear what her students had to say.

"I was going to prepare a lecture for today's topic on Selkies but I thought we could watch a movie instead. The film centers on a teenaged boy who learns that his mother has taken a job on a remote island off mainland Australia. He's shattered that he must leave his friends and girlfriend and come with them. But what begins as the worst experience of his entire life becomes an important journey of discovery, as he learns that he is somehow connected with a mysterious and legendary line of Selkies - people from ancient Scotland who have the power to change into seals."

Summer smiled, hoping her students would find the film entertaining.

"Enjoy."

"Welcome back, everyone," Summer said. "I hope you all had a nice break. I know I did," she smiled. "Today, we're going to talk about spirits of the sea. There are many tales passed down through time that talk of ghosts and apparitions out at sea. Who knows? Some of them might be true."

Anything was possible.

Ghostly tales of the high seas. )

Today's lesson was back in the classroom.

Summer had the projector set up, with an image depicted on the front boards. As soon as the students settled in, Summer began the lecture.

Summer had set up today's class in the Danger Shop and let her students know with a handwavily e-mail.

The Danger Shop was set up to replicate the open ocean. As soon as the students entered the room, they'd find themselves aboard a ship that might have been found from the 1800s or earlier.

Sea serpents, ahoy! )

There were a good chunk of myths about sea serpents and Summer could have gone on for the entire class. Instead, she looked at her students and posed a question to them. "What are some sea serpent myths that you know of? After answering that question, feel free to explore the ship."

"Hey guys, sorry about handwavily canceling class last week. Something came up mun completely forgot, oops! but it's been taken care of," Summer explained. "Today, we're going to touch upon seas monsters of the deep. The ones we'll discuss today are thought to be complete myths but there's a good possibility versions of these monsters might exist in a different world somewhere." If there was one thing Summer had learned from Fandom, it was that anything was possible.

There be monsters ahead. )

"So, do you believe these sea monsters exist? Is there any truth to these myths?" Summer liked to think so.

Today, the class was held in the Danger Shop and they'd been handwavily notified ahead of time.

The room depicted an ancient city, some of it in ruins.

"Welcome to Atlantis," Summer smiled, gesturing at the cityscape behind her. "The legend of Atlantis comes from Greek mythology. It's legend is well known throughout history. It's said to be a lost continent of antiquity and though there isn't much evidence to say that Atlantis ever existed, many people, scientists included, are fascinated by it."

"There are those who believe that Atlantis could have existed in the Atlantic, others believe it was in the Mediterranean Sea. And then there are those that believe Atlantis was once located where the Bermuda Triangle is today," Summer explained. "Now, the Greek philosopher Plato, had works that were contained the earliest mentions of Atlantis. Some say that the Greek gods divided up land between and Poseidon was granted the island of Atlantis. Atlantis was said to consist of eighteen rings alternating between land and sea. The center island was ruled by Atlas, son of Poseidon. Under the rule of the gods, Atlantis became great; unfortunately, the entire island was engulfed by the sea and disappeared."

What Summer would give to learn if the island was real or not.

"According to Plato, the Egyptians described Atlantis as as an island comprising mostly mountains in the northern portions and along the shore, and encompassing a great plain of an oblong shape in the south. There are accounts that some ancient writers believed Atlantis to be real, while others saw it as fiction." She paused, wondering if evidence would ever come to pass.

"Though we may never know if it truly existed, I'd like to think that there's some truth to the legend of Atlantis," Summer smiled. "Many have different takes on what Atlantis may have looked like and what you see before you is how I envisioned Atlantis to be. So, feel free to explore and if you have any questions, feel free to find me."

Once all of her students were settled in, Summer began her lecture. A picture was displayed on the board behind her.

"The Bermuda Triangle, which is also referred to as the Devil's Triangle, is an area in the Atlantic Ocean that is known for causing numerous aircraft and sea vessels to mysteriously disappear. As you can see from the image behind me, the Bermuda Triangle covers the Straits of Florida, the Bahamas and part of Puerto Rico. According to reports, most of the mysterious disappearances seemed to happen around Florida and the Bahamas."

A mystery never fully explained...? )

"Welcome to Myths and Legends of the Deep," Summer began, as soon as the last student settled in. "For those of you that don't know me, I'm Summer Pitt. You can call me Summer or Miss Pitt, if you prefer."

Summer passed out the syllabus before continuing. "Throughout this course, we will cover myths and legends pertaining to the ocean. Today, we're going to take it easy and just start with introductions. I'd like your name, grade and what myth you'd like to cover the most. It can be anything you can think of and it doesn't have to be on the syllabus," she explained.

"I also know that we all come from different worlds, so some of these might actually exist where you come from. So, please, let me know if that's the case and I'll gladly change to a new topic if you want me to."

Summer didn't want to make her students uncomfortable, after all.

"Next week, we'll be meeting in the Danger Shop." I'm also looking for one or two TAs, if anyone's interested."
