Charming Your Way Into and Out of Things, Monday, Period 2

The Danger Shop was a hallway, all high contrast shadows as usual. At the end of it, there was a door, one that you might expect to lead into a detective's office in a '40s movie. (Spoiler: that was about exactly how the room beyond was like, too.) And The Spirit was standing outside said door.

He nodded at them again in greeting. "It's our last session, kiddos," he said. "And it's customary for you to have a final in the last session, so that's what we'll be doing." He jabbed a thumb back at the door behind him. "I want each of you to come through this door, one by one. This final's not a group effort. But you should all do well."

He gave them a brief smile, before turning to open the door, and gesture the first student inside.

Talk amongst yourselves or sit around and stuff.

As each student took their turn to walk through the door, they'd find themselves in an office that matched the feel and aesthetic of the hallway before. And the Spirit was seated behind a grand wooden desk, his hat on table and his feet propped up.

He gestured to the empty seat on the other side of the desk.

"Now," he said, "charm me."

"Uh."

Theo scratched his cheek and then reached into his pocket for his phone. He pulled up the internet, searched Youtube and found what he was looking for.

"Here's an adorable video of a bunch of puppies snuggling and rolling over each other sleepily!"

Animals were always a good route to go.

The Spirit got his feet off the corner of the table so he could lean forward and see the video better, tilting his head.

"Valiant effort," he decided. "But I'm sure you can do better."

Could Theo not just see he was talking to a hardcore cat person here?

Yeah, Theo wasn't sure if he could do better. He put the phone away and scratched his cheek.

"Thanks for letting me be your TA this class," he said and he meant that even if he was trying to be charming. "No one's ever given me that kind of responsibility so I appreciate it and you."

"...um."

Emma sat and basically gave him her most earnest look, with the biggest puppy eyes she could manage.

Though since the knees in her jeans had finally given up the ghost this morning, the overall effect may have been more pathetic than charming.

The look the Spirit gave her wasn't unkind. But it wasn't quite charmed, either. Maybe a bit amused.

"Now, Miss Swan, I think you can a little more charming than that, even if it does tug on my heartstrings."

Minako bounced in happily, stopping next to the chair and giving a crisp bow, red bow bobbing in her hair. "Domo arigatou gozaimasu, sensei!" she chirped cheerfully before straightening up. "I have enjoyed your class very much this semester."

Minako, using those dimples probably fell under 'cheating.'

Before or after class.

Who might have some pointers for the final! But probably not. Considering he was told exactly as little in advance as everyone else.

Theo had no pointers. None at all. He was just as awkward as ever.

My jaw needs to stop feeling hurty.
