Cutthroat Games- Monday- 1st period

The island seemed normal! Normal-normal, as in there wasn't any creeping gray stuff or weird smoke, and so far everything was the color it was supposed to be. Therefore, class was outside today.

"We're going a bit simpler this week," Aeryn said, "with an Earth game I have never played."

Weirdly Talyn had never asked her to.

"I have played it many, many times," Anakin said, "and if you don't think it's a cut-throat game, you're playing with the wrong children. It's called Duck, Duck, Goose, and there are no animals actually involved."

Which had confused him initially.

"Apparently you all have to sit in a circle, and one of you is it. And then you walk around, tapping people on the head and designating them ducks, until you designate one of them a goose and then the goose chases you?" Aeryn was still confused on this.

"And if you beat them back to their place in the circle, you become a duck and they become the goose. But not literally."

This game made NO SENSE to two aliens from different galaxies. "It might have something to do with Santa and his flying reindeer? Perhaps this goes back to an earlier time on the planet where animals were more interesting?"

Anakin, no.

"Do not invoke Santa," Aeryn warned.

"I can take 'im," Anakin told her. "I have successfully defended myself for five years at various malls!"

Aeryn opened her mouth to say something, then thought better of it, and turned to the students. "Lana, you will be a goose."

There. That made this normal.

Extremely normal!

"Not an actual goose," Anakin reminded her, sitting down on the ground. "And complaining about how hard you get smacked in the head is traditional!"

At least with his kids.

Sidon had to laugh a little at the description of the game, slowly realizing that this was very similar to one played often by the hatchlings in the courtyard back home; he'd played it often himself, thinking himself especially good at chasing his sister when she'd chosen him (which she tried not to do too often, to be fair), though, of course, there were variations. No sitting, for one, and sometimes they'd do it in the water, and it went fish, fish, Zora rather than duck, duck, goose.

So it would be rather enjoyable playing it again, like so long ago, even with the awkward element of sitting and having to get up again (still no easy feat for him!) added into the mix.

This...was a very odd game.

All right, whatever.

Lana walked around the circle, trying to choose somebody she had a good chance of beating in speed. Surely that was the point?

Goose, Billy!
