Mechanics of Engineering - Wednesday, 1st Period

“Welcome back,” Goose said, he had been a bit a distracted after his conversation with Walsh on Sunday but this time he had least used that distraction to draw up a proper lesson plan to work on for his next class.

“For the next few weeks we're going to be looking at machines,” Goose explained, “a simple machine is a machine that can change the direction or magnitude of a force,” he started to go into a bit in depth as he talked about simple machines.

“There are six simple machines,” he continued, “the wheel and axle, the level, the inclined plane, the pulley, the screw, wedge and lever, this week we are going to be looking at pulleys,”

“For our practical assignment today I thought we would have a go at making a pulley,” Goose nodded as he handed out the instructions and indicated the range of materials they had to work on.

Libby had to smile a little bit at today's lesson; it was similar to one of the science ones they'd do back home, too, that she especially liked to help the Littles with, and the pulley one was great, because they would usually use it as a way to pretend they were in olden times and had to pull up water from a well or think of other creative uses for them.

(Up to and including harmless threats to pulley misbehaving children up by their waistbands if they didn't behave!)

Alara remembered this assignment from the previous semesters so she was mostly able to follow the instructions, she managed to build one and only broke a couple of pieces so it was pretty good progress for her.

Guillermo had never made anything like this before so it took him a bit longer to get through the activity but he was pretty happy with how his pulley ended up turning out once he got it completed.
