A Beginner's Guide to Mechanical Engineering - Tuesday, 1st Period

“Good morning,” Goose said when it was time for class to start, “this week we’re going to start looking at the practical component of this class and I thought to get a good feel for mechanical engineering and the process of building mechanical projects, we’d start by looking at machine drawing,”

“So we’ll start this week by getting a feel for the techniques used” and what’s involved before we move on to the building process,”

Amaya worked with machine drawings a bunch; the space underneath the counter at the shop was practically stuffed with them, not to mention the occasional instance of a bunch of rolled up parchment from ideas and blueprints tumbling out of the closet under the stairs when she opened it at times. So she was mostly interested in the examples at the moment, pouring over them and trying to find all the things she would have done differently and making....

'Improvements.'

Which then just devolved into sketching out a few new ideas for the Crumbler, as these things were want to do.

Alara was just not very good at any kind of drawing and she was finding machine drawing in particular to be rather difficult as she tried to follow the steps that she needed to.

She kept making mistakes and the end result was that she kept scrunching up the paper she was working on so she kept starting again. By the end of the class she had ended up with quite a pile of scrunched up paper and a half finished drawing.

Miguel had had to do some of this for his degree, but that had been 3D modeling. And a long time ago. These days he mostly fixed other people's things.

So this whole paper thing was a little frustrating.
