A Guide to Mechanical Engineering - Thursday, 4th Period

This week’s practical wasn’t even one that he had been planning but this was something that had caught his eye as something to try and it was quite possibly not the most practical of assignments to attempt to do but Goose was very interested in seeing how this challenge unfolded in class.

He also had not thought to bring hard boiled eggs in for the experiment to make it less messy but Goose barely thought things through at the best of times so it wasn’t really that much of a surprise that he had just brought in normal eggs to try instead.

“So this week we’re going to try something a bit different and experiment with eggs, and we’re going to be doing an activity called the egg drop challenge,” he explained as he motioned to the different options that were available to run the experiment, “what you need to do is design a craft that will protect the egg and then drop it from a distance,”

Goose really hadn’t this lesson through.

Alara found designing and making the craft to be the easier part of the challenge and had decided to try using straws and paper for her design.

As soon as she went to pick up her egg, she immediately broke it before she had even got the egg into the craft.

It took her a few attempts to get the egg in the craft but once she did and dropped it, she found that at least the egg managed to not crack this time.

Dwight looked at the supplies and then the cartons of eggs and sighed as he looked down at his hands. Hands that were definitely better suited for using hammers and nails and working with heavy wood and solid metal even more than delicate eggs. This.... could end up being a bit messy...
