A Beginner's Guide to Mechanical Engineering - Tuesday, 1st Period

Goose had finally slept and was a bit more alert than last week, even if he was still a bit distracted since he hadn’t had any additional luck with getting through to Ignis but he had been successful in talking to Captain Foxx in getting more communicators so that they could get them to Summer so that was at least something

“Good morning,” he said, “so last week we covered strength of materials, I thought a way to expand on that would be to look at the theory of Hooke’s Law and see if we can look at at a spring and see how accurate it can be for weighing objects,” he explained, “so for this week’s activity we’re going to be looking at making a Spring Scale and seeing what we can discover,”

Alara was not having much luck with making her scale as when she kept trying to attach the spring to her mount she kept applying too much pressure and ended up breaking everything in the process.

It was going to be a while before she figured this project out.

"Start slow, like picking up an egg or something," Miguel advised. "Or just use one finger. Springs can be a bitch with too much strength."

Ask him about some of his early exploits after getting stronger.

Alara nodded, trying to use just one finger to see if that worked, it took a few goes but she managed to attach it, “I thought I wouldn’t be able to break it,” she admitted, “ it’s rather small,”

"Springs are under a lot of tension; they're finicky," Miguel said. "There you go." He nodded when she finished it.

Amaya would never not be excited to work with springs. She should really remember to work with springs more often, and her familiarity and meticulousness with such things ensured that she was having a pretty easy time with today's assignment.

Which meant more time to spend after getting it right to figure out how to make it ridiculous.
