[OOC: Hi. You get relatively uncreative and quickly written lecture today. Sorry! Needed sleep! And I'm running slightly late, so the EC and Metaphor will be up a little later. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was standing at the podium at the front of the room and Lockheed was on his normal bookshelf, as usual.

"Good morning, students! Welcome back from break! I hope you all had a good one! And congratulations to anyone who did well in the animal balancing contest last night. Just be glad there wasn't a moose."

"Okay, today, we're talking about superheroes. A superhero is, essentially, a vigilante with a flashier style and usually a moral center more in line with that of the rest of society. If you excuse the whole blatantly taking the law into their own hands thing, at least."

Logan sat on the desk at the front of the class. "Hey," he said, once everyone was there and had signed in. "Bit of advice - never make deathbed promises to Angel. He'll make you follow through. Okay, today we were scheduled to start the midterm project, but since I'm the substitute's substitute, I don't have any idea what that was supposed to be. So I am clinging to the tradition of substitutes everywhere and am showing a vaguely relevant movie."

He picked up the remote control and pointed at the first person who signed in. "How many days left until the election?"

After the answer, he pressed play on Wag the Dog.

Due to an odd temporal flux, the entire movie is shown and the class still ends 50 minutes after it began.

[Ooc: Should you want to discuss the movie, please meta-ize the character names (or not use them) just in case.]

"Good morning, everyone. I hope you had a pleasant break." Ms. Sidle has a large water bottle on her desk in place of her coffee mug. Every so often, she scowls at it without noticing.

"Today, we will be talking about the Equilibrium Constant."

"The Equilibrium Constant, Kc, relates to a chemical reaction at equilibrium. It can be calculated if the equilibrium concentration of each reactant and product in a reaction at equilibrium is known. The equilibrium expression below, formed from the general chemical equilibrium, is universally true. The chemical components happen to be gases."

Once again, the announcements come about half an hour before first period today.

"Good morning, students. I trust those of you who participated in last night's balancing contest are feeling sufficiently accomplished today. There is nothing to note today except that yesterday's foam soap geyser appears to have disappeared overnight, and when it comes to personal hygiene matters, you are now entirely on your own. However, various sections of tile in the hallways have taken it upon themselves to impersonate disco flooring at random intervals. Please do not be alarmed by this."

A pause.

"Please do not be overly alarmed by this." Because it is, after all, disco flooring.

"That will be all. Have a corporeal day."

Angela spends much of her day in the library flipping through something called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Psychic Phenomena and testing herself with the quizzes at the back.

She looks kind of cranky at the results she's getting.

In any case, she's there to help with all your library-type needs.

"Good morning, class. I'm Mr. Raymond and I will be taking over for Mr. Chaucer. I am originally from San Diego. My hobbies include wine and writing novels. I'm sure we've all got a lot to talk about. First, turn in your terza rimas from the 28th, then we'll get settled with this week's poet."

"Robert Burns was often regarded as the national poet of Scotland. He wrote extensively in the Scots language, but a great deal of his work was written in English, using a Scottish dialect. During his lifetime in the late eighteenth century, he wrote hundreds, if not thousands, of poems and songs, and was, unlike so many of the other writers we've studied, quite popular in his own time. So popular, in fact, that when he died, the kindness of his fans supported his widow and children for some time after."

"Your discussion questions:

1) What aspects of his poems do you suppose made them so immensely popular?

2) How does the Scottish dialect affect the reading of the work? Does it make the imagery more powerful? How?"

ASSIGNMENT:

"Choose a modern song, written within the last 10 years, and re-envision the lyrics as a poem. You may make two or three minor changes to the text, but please keep the spirit of the piece. You will be making presentations on these in two weeks time."

Welcome back from your break. Everyone who was in England, I hope you enjoyed yourself. You certainly never called on me for help, so I assume everything went swimmingly. Everyone who stayed here or went home for the break -- welcome back to learning.

Our lecture today is on the consolidation of power within the British Isles.

"Welcome back from Spring Break. I hope you all had a restful, relaxing week, and are ready to get back to class."

"I'd like each of you to give your presentations that I assigned before you left."

"Good day, class. I'm pleased to see that you all survived the break and the tender tutelage of my TA. Today is the day that I assign you lots and lots of reading because the mun has to brush up on her Welsh myth I've decided to back up to the roots of things and study the Mabinogion. We've already looked at Culhwch and Olwen, and we'll pass over the Mabinogi, leaving us with 'The Dream of Maxen', 'Lludd and Lleyws', and 'The Dream of Rhonabwy', as well as the three so-called Arthurian romances, 'Owein and the Countess of the Fountain', 'Peredur', and 'Gereint and Enid'." He frowned down at his notes for a moment. "Actually, scratch 'The Dream of Maxen' and 'Lludd and Llefys'. They aren't relevant to the course. But I encourage you to read them anyway." He moved around the room distributing books. "I understand that Phoebe in her infinite wisdom had given you an assignment due on Thursday, so I will not assign any reading for you until then, but I encourage to look over the tales and read the introduction.

"Now, that's out of the way. For the rest of class, I want each and every one of you to tell me a story. But I want your story to be entitled, "Over Spring Break I Sought the Holy Grail". Tell me who you went with, where you looked, how many of you ended up in jail, if you found it, any details you want to throw in."

[[Cammie-mun is wrestling with the dreaded Beast of Aaaaagh Migraine. Ergo, short lesson. And not in haiku. Sadly. I've only given summaries of the stories, so if you want to read them in all their Lady Guest-translated glory, go here]]

Human Resource Management - Period Six

Lorelai might just be a tiny bit bouncier than she was this morning after her conversation with Dr. Grissom. "Good afternoon," she greets the class. "I trust that you all had a restful break. We're going to switch things up a little and learn about something the mun knows talk about organizations that ensure employers provide safe and friendly working environments."

"Good afternoon, guys. I hope you all enjoyed your break," Daniel said.

"Today, I want to talk about the pyramids. Egypt's pyramids served as tombs for her dead kings. And also as landing sites for alien ships, but we're not going to be going into that. The focus of a complex of ritual buildings, the pyramid was the magical powerhouse where the mummified pharaoh would attain eternal life.

The first pyramid was Djoser's Step Pyramid, built not long after Egypt had become a unified land, in approximately 3000 BC. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, at Giza, was raised a century later. But these pyramids did not come from a technological void. A clear evolution can be traced from the most ancient prehistoric graves to the splendours of the Giza plateau.

Prehistoric pit graves
Mastaba tomb, Saqqara
Djoeser's step pyramid
Meidum pyramid
Bent Pyramid of Dahshur
The Great Pyramid
Khaefre's pyramid and Sphinx
New Kingdom pyramid, Deir el-Medina

Today, I want to discuss Mastaba tombs and the step pyramid. Why are these so important? What can they tell us about Ancient Egypt?"

Rules for soccer are posted on a large sign. Goals and a ball are out, along with two sets of different color jerseys to thrown over gym clothes.

"Okay, let's play foot ball." MacLeod grins, possibly enjoying the pun and slang a bit too much.
