Advanced Journalism (Tuesday, March 14 - 2nd period)

Rita smiled a little tiredly, but triumphantly.

1. What are the four basic things you must keep in mind when preparing for an interview?

2. In your opinion, is it more or less difficult to conduct an unbiased interview with someone you know versus someone you do not?

3. Define investigative journalism in your own words.

4. What is a bias? What can we, as people who work in the media, do to counter bias in our own work?

5. Where is Professor Skeeter from?

6. What does she do to students who misbehave in her class?

Extra credit:

Which animals has John Crichton been turned into?

How many people were on the radio last night (broadcasting)?

[Handwavey is fine.]

John signs in wearing a hat (http://www.crackedverse.com/rpg/johnhatomg.jpg), carrying furry handcuffs on his pants and banana with the word 'gun' written on it in his pocket.

Rory signed in and feared for the sanity of everyone in the room.

Well. Except maybe Chloe. She hadn't done anything too insane, that Rory had seen. Recently.

Chloe signed in and glanced at John. Still a human. That was a good sign.

While twirling his banana gun, John takes the midterm.

1. 1) Do some basic homework. 2) Look around so as to get an idea about the person from their surroundings. 3) Use your attitude to your advtange. 4) Listen. Don't doze off. That would be bad.

2. It's much more difficult to conduct an unbiased interview with someone you know. You already have preconcieved notions about said person that will interfre with your interview no matter what. You're emotions will come into play and, depending on those emotions, can sway the interview in an overly negative or an overly positive way.

3. Investigative journalism is journalism in an attempt to uncover, reveal or expose something or someone.

4. Bias is a term that means favoring or disliking someone or something to an extent that it can color your views. To counter bias, people in the media have to train themselves to look at both sides of the issue and write a clean, level article.

5. The Old Folks Home.

6. Makes them animals with her wand, yo.

EC:

1. Baby elephant, meerkat, puffin, dog, marmoset, seahorse, stickbug
2. 1 insane senior citizen.

John adopts his best faux accent and pulls his banana gun out.

"Madama Scooter, I am Officer Clement Von der Flooven. You are under arrest.

That doesn't phase John. He just laughs, peels his banana and says, "I bet your just really proud of yourself, huh?"

"Dunno." John offers his banana. "Can I offer you some fruit?"

"What about some nuts?" John asks, taking some nuts out of the pocket of his pants.

Should I have D show up to this at some point, to seek admission, or would you rather I wait until tomorrow when I might have a brain there might be more time?
