sensethevisions: (Love)
[personal profile] sensethevisions
Phoebe was standing in front of the class. Her face was pale and she looked upset about something. The worry could have something to do with the missing teacher, or it could be due to the fact that she seemed to have lost something important that really wasn't hers to lose.

She kept looking towards the door and then ten minutes after the bell, she sighed and shook her head. No one had heard from Camulus for two days and she was beginning to get worried. It just wasn't like him to disappear and tell no one what was going on.

"Alright, guys," she said in a quiet voice. "Looks like you're stuck with me as the teacher as Professor Camulus seems to have disappeared been detained." She swallowed and then sat cross-legged on the desk.

"Today, we're beginning the Introduction to Kings Cycle. The King's Cycle is a chronologic series that discusses the likelihood of history colliding with and marrying myth and legends."

She wrinkled her nose. "A few things to remember:

--- Monty Python was never a king in Celtic times, nor in Arthurian times.
--- Arthur/Guenevere/Launcelot were not the Holy Trinity
--- Bringing the teacher or the TA a sacrifice will not guarantee you an A on your project. However, bringing me coffee might.
--- Wikipedia The library is your friend. You might want to utilize it.

That being said..."

• Chronology of Irish kings – historical characters and events colliding with myth and legend
• Assign readings (to be studied after the break):
o How Ronan Slew His Only Son
o The Adventures of the Sons of Eochaid Mugmedon "Eochaid Mugmedon ("slave-lord") was a semi-historical High King of Ireland of the 4th century who was said to be the ancestor of many of Ireland's most significant dynasties, such as the Connachta and the Uí Néill. By his wife, Mongfind, he had sons Brion, Ailill and Fiachrae. By a slave he captured on a raid in Britain, Cairenn, he had a fourth son, Niall, later known as Niall Noigiallach (Niall of the Nine Hostages)."
o Voyage of Maleduin
o Wee Folk (still have to find the link)
o The Death of Muircetach mac Erca
• Assign story summaries to be handed in at the end of the cycle – Kings Cycle and Mythological Cycle (Etain, Oenghus, etc.)

"Everyone will need to select one of the stories we have covered, including the Wooing of Etain and write a summary on it at the end of the cycle. Relax. It's not due this week."

"Today we talk about the President's Cabinet," Josh said when the government class walked in. "Which are, well, people and not furniture."

The President's Cabinet )

Josh smiled and sat back down. "Our discussion for the day: Which Cabinet secretary or Cabinet-level administration office guy would you prefer to be?"

[OOC: Slowplay like woah today.]

As the students enter the room they'll see a table that has an array of various materials that no normal teacher would ever provide a student could possibly create an explosion.

"Hopefully you got my e-mail last week to bring in something that you don't mind getting destroyed," Mac says with a small grin. "Because today we are going to blow it up."

[ooc: If you are a student of this class Please sign in here with how you want to be involved with the Danger Shop plot]

Josh smiled as the US History class came into the room.

"Today we talk about the War of 1812 and the Industrial Revolution." He raised an eyebrow. "That's right. About seventy years of history in an hour. Prepare to take notes." He looked down at his papers. "And you will have your midterm exam next Wednesday, so now is definitely the time to start panicking if you have no idea what's going on."

A half-assed version of the 1800s. )

He turned to the board and pointed at the words he he written there. "For your homework, choose from following three topics: the Monroe Doctrine, the Trail of Tears or child labor in the early 1800s and give me a hundred words on one of them."

POWER

Poke around. Rhetoric is finding and utilizing, in a given situation, the available means of persuasion. Find what you consider the most powerful speech, study it so you can talk like an expert, and bring it tomorrow.

401-5th period

We missed Monday because of the holiday, so todya is a one off. I'd like you to work together and draft a document to submit to the administration requesting the creation of a Peace Club.

"Today we're all about some history," said Jenny. "Check over this handout on the Salem witch trials and tell me what you think."

OOC: Class is up, but responses won't be coming 'til later this afternoon. However? This is one of the player's favorite historical events to read about, so very much looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

Wait for the OCD threads!

Zero opens the library and heads for her customary station behind the desk. She doesn't seem to have any trashy romance novels about today, so she should be helpful, if you need help. The library is open, people!

Rita is mysteriously absent. That is, unless students have some sudden urge to look under her desk for insects.

On the board is written:

Please turn in your writings on the campus couple of your choosing.

Ms. Sullivan, enjoy your detention on Saturday.

Ms. Gilmore, do not attempt to feed anyone in this room.

Please sit quietly.

[ooc: I'm going to be gone for a few hours. So feel free to talk amongst yourselves, speculate where Rita is, etc. I'll be back later to have her show up and interact. :)]
[identity profile] imanaturalblond.livejournal.com
Rita sat behind her desk, sipping coffee and looking through some moving pictures with a raised eyebrow.

"Good afternoon, boys and girls. We're going to be working with the photographs you took last week. Please get into the pairs I assign. You will each be given a photograph, and without asking the photographer for an explanation or clarification, I'd like for you to please write a headline about what you see. After writing your headline, please show it to the photographer and explain your reasoning. Please try to be as creative as possible."

The pairings, as such, go as thus. Also, there's an OOC note! )

Soc. of Violence: 2nd Period

Grissom brings his class to the A/V lab next door, and sets them each up at a computer work station.

Each has a browser window open to a page with various "police videos".

"This content can be disturbing, so if you don't want to watch them, you are under no obligation to do so, and may return to the lab to sit quietly and do some reading. But I'd like your reactions to this kind of footage and feel free to handwave a video not on that site, you know the type, please."

Homework: "Next week we will have a guest speaker in class, who has a background in both law enforcement and security. I'd like you to prepare a few questions for this speaker, and you may include issues you are concerned about on the island. Any questions?"

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Today, we're going to talk about magic. At this point, a conversation on whether magic does, or does not, exist, would be rather silly," Grissom smiles in the direction of a few students in his class. "However, understanding how magic is generally perceived off the island could be helpful."

Generic Wiki Grissom Lecture

"Next Monday, I will be setting you up again in groups to work on a project in this field. Therefore, all I'd like you to share in class today is what you are interested in studying and pursuing further, by way of knowledge. Think in a sociological frame of reference. Magic and its involvement with religion and spirituality? How we treat those who believe in magic, or say they practice magic, or in our cases, without a doubt practice magic? Ethical and moral guidelines surrounding the subject? Historical significance? Inside the subculture of those who practice magic, or those who are exposed to it? Or any other topic that you wish."

"No homework tonight, have a good weekend."
[identity profile] prof-methos.livejournal.com
Methos has his feet up on his desk and appears to be asleep. A TV in the front of the room has a sign on it reading, "Press Play."

Sign in book is lying on his desk. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to watch Gladiator today.

[[OOC: Sorry for the lateness! Ack! So you get movie day. OCD threads as soon as possible are up.]]

Duncan awaits them with ...a DVD player and a big screen TV.

"It's been a long week, and I thought something more fun than injurious might be in order. Snacks are over there." He points at a table with soda, chips, and the like. "As soon as everybody settles in, we'll watch, and then see what they did wrong, what they did right, and what you'd do differently."

He pops the button to start "Return of the Monarch".
