When students arrived at the rather nice area of the beach John had instructed them to meet at, they would find their teacher ready for the beach and standing next to a table with several items. Oh yes, John was once again prepared to blow their little minds with his amazing lecture on frisbee, beach volleyball, and binoculars.

"Okay guys, today we're hitting on a trio--not dirty, I promise--of sand entertainment. First up we have the frisbee." John picked one up off the table and tossed it down the beach. "I know, it looks pointless, but if you believe gum commercials and terrible 80s movies, this baby could raise the attention of the opposite sex if you throw it right. Needless to say, you gotta practice if you don't wanna look like a fool. Which is why we're here today!" John moved down the table, tugging a volleyball out of a bag full of them and tossing it around. "Now, this is a volleyball. It's basically the same thing as when played inside, only tiny bathing-suit styled uniforms and really tan people. Good sport for a pick up beach game, but again, practice first. You don't wanna serve the ball into the head of your pretty partner. Now, as a real sport, there are rules and you can read them at your leisure since I printed out a copy for you here." He dropped the ball in the sand and moved on to the final object. "Now, last we've got a set of binoculars for each of you. Bring 'em to class each week and then they're yours to keep. Thank the USAF." McKay and his ability to get things was dead useful at times. "So, now you're wondering what we do with these weird binoculars. Well, we look through them," and he demonstrated how and the proper way to focus on something. "And, you know, you can look at just about anything you want. I'm not here to judge."

John clapped his hands together, feeling he'd done enough talking for the day. "Okay guys, now you get to play around with the equipment and hang out for the rest of the period. Gotta love it. I'll be over here with my binoculars, trying to locate any stray dolphins in the bay." You never knew with Fandom.

Anders looked pretty out of it today; that was the side effect of getting stuck and then lost in Special Collections for a week, only to extricate himself a couple of hours before class.

"Guys, it's been a week," he said, even sounding pretty ragged. "I had big plans to show you another sport from Earth's future but, ah, the library foiled me on digging up any information on that one so I haven't had time to prep anything different. Sorry." He was still sure there was a frakkin' pterodactyl in there somewhere, or what he thought sounded like one anyway.

He indicated the A/V setup near the bleachers, and the balls and equipment laid out in the gym. "So you guys get a free day today. There's like five hundred sports channels that you can check out if you feel like making a movie day out of it instead of heading that way and having open gym day."

As for him, he was going to sit down on the bleachers, practically hugging a cooler of Gatorade all to himself.

The class was meeting in the Danger Shop today for a class Loki had been looking forward to for a few reasons. He enjoyed both annoying his students and making them think and he hoped this class would do both while also being more than just discussion.

There's a lecture under here! )

Piper was sipping coffee when she arrived at the classroom this morning. She was also carrying a small basket with her. "Hi everyone. I brought muffins. Feel free to take one."

She placed the basket on the front table. "This week you'll be working with eggs. You can do a lot with those. You need them for pretty much every baked good. Plus, there are a lot of ways you can cook them."

With that, she passed out a handout before a short lecture on various ways to cook eggs. "You don't have to make any of these. They're just a few suggestions." She then let them get started on the assignment.

Dan was spending his shift looking over the library cards and making sure everything was in alphabetical order. He had brought a book with him, but this seemed more fun.

Dan was a geek.

Drake had handwavily informed the students that class would be held at the picnic tables outside the dorms. Why not?

"Rules exist for a reason," he began the class. "There are some things you're not supposed to do, like hurt other people or take their stuff without permission. But some rules don't exist to show you what's right and wrong -- some of them are more like guidelines to 'proper'" -- he wiggled his fingers in the air quotes gesture here -- "behavior. Do this, do that, wear this, eat that. Conformity. Rules, expectations, social norms, peer pressure. Garbage.

"If you're going to suck the marrow out of life, you need to be doing it for yourself first and foremost. Otherwise you're just sucking someone else's marrow." Pause. "Not dirty.

"Now, I'm not advocating chaos and anarchy here, though that can be fun sometimes, too. Like I said, some rules exist for a reason, and sucking said marrow doesn't mean doing so at the expense of others. But it's important to be yourself. You are you, not what your family or your world or anyone else tells you you are. If that were the case, I'd still be hanging out in the underworld eating babies or something.

"So today I want to tell me about some time you've broken the rules to be yourself. Why didn't you conform? And if you can't come up with anything, tell me why you've never rebelled against what was expected of you."

When the students showed up, they would find Chloe in the front of the classroom instead of Mitchell. She looked a little ill at ease, but once everyone was seated, she gave them all her best smile. Yes, it was still a shy one.

"Mitchell wasn't able to be here today due to some business he needed to take care of, so I'm in charge of the class this time." Because she looked like she was so fierce, right? "I figured that since we keep talking about the invention of the television and how it has changed things in the world over the years, we could actually watch a couple of clips from shows or movies." She gestured to different TVs and snacks set out about the room. "At each station is a TV with something different playing on it, as well as snacks and drinks. Find something that catches your interest at one of the stations, and relax and enjoy yourself."

Making a good impression, she flopped on one of the couches with a movie playing and waved her remote. "One more thing, you won't find anything above an R rating on any of the machines. Let's not get Mitchell or ourselves into trouble with the bosses."

"Ahoy, ye landlubbing degenerates!" Jack greeted them jovially as he swung from a rope to land on the deck. "Today we shall learn very important things about heights and swinging from ropes and and AND I have been instructed to tell you--not plunging to our sudden and untimely demises. That part was apparently very important." He looked vaguely confused as to why that might be true.

"But first, we sing!" he said. "Keep up, keep up:

Cut for her pleasure! )

"Very well!" Jack said with a grin. "None of you are afraid of heights, right?"
