Fifteen minutes before first period. You'd think there was some kind of not-at-all-subtle attempt to discourage sleeping in here.

"Good morning, happy Friday, and happy birthday to Rome, which according to tradition was founded on this day in 763 BC. Today's announcements consist of only one thing:

Pudding.

On an entirely unrelated note, the following teenagers with attitude will all report to detention tomorrow:

Angel
Belthazor
Angela Chase
Archie Kennedy
Veronica Mars
Jaye Tyler
Skank Zero Hopeless-Savage
Chloe Sullivan
John Connor

Mwahahahahaha. That will be all. Thank you."

[OOC: Pudding, believe it or not, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] bugofjustice. Is it a warning? A declaration? A secret multilayered code signaling the destruction of some faraway planet? Interpret it however you want.]

Janet was slightly out of breath from running across town to get to the school and open the library on time. And to get coffee while on the way.

The Chef's and Schnitzel are getting along better today. One assumes that nights of cuddling and spoken sweet nothings helped bring them back together.

There are several giant robots.

"If everyone could find the Zord that matches the schematics I assigned you last week, I'd like you to get in the cockpit and start experimenting with the controls. Remember- nothing you do will cause any lasting damage, as this is just a simulation, so don't worry."

Josh was reading an article about a health care plan proposed by some Texas Congressman named Santos that Toby had forwarded to him when the government class began arriving.

"Next week's class will be a review session, so today we talk about the last thing that you'll be required to care about for the final exam." He pointed to the board, where he had written lobbyists and the media.

"Technically, not part of the three separate but equal branches of government that the Founders had envisioned, but especially in the modern age, incredibly influential in the way laws are drawn up and passed."

He kicked his feet up onto his desk. "You've done the handwavy reading. How do you think the Founders would react if they came back and wandered down K Street and saw all the lobbying firms? Or turned on Fox News? Do you think this is what they had in mind? Do you think they could see how we got here? Would George Washington have a heart attack to see what we've done?"

"Prom's on Saturday," Josh said, smiling. "Do we need to start giving the junior class planners oxygen yet?"

He linked his hands behind his head. "Professors Tick, Harrington, and Camulus have agreed to help me chaperone." He pointed at Alanna, Parker, and Elizabeth. "Want to give us an update on what we should be expecting? Or any help you need?"

He spun in his chair. "Anything else we need to discuss? The coffee for finals thing seems to be taken care of. And another game night's in the works, right?"

[OOC: Sorry it's so late!]

Yay food. There's a smorgasbord of food to choose from today.

"Afternoon dudes! Today we're learning about personal theme songs. Every superhero or regular hero or even minor character who died in season one but had brief recurring appearances has one. Let's look at a few."

Ted plays several opening credit sequences from various superhero TV shows.

Bitterwoman )

The Flying Rodent )

Wormhole X-treme )

There are also snippets from Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly, The Ambiguously Gay Duo, Radioactive Man (from the previously unreleased movie soundtrack), and Orgasmo ("Now you're a man! A manny manny man!").

"Okay, so. Personal theme songs represent the person they're about. They're totally your musical resumes. So talk about some of the theme songs you know of that are the most triumphant."

[OOC: And remember to meta any shows/movies/characters you use.]

Rita was totally not sleeping behind her desk.

Really.

The writing on the board read:

Please ensure that I have your interview information, and spend the rest of the period writing questions

But, you know, she's not really paying attention, so....

Broots was grinning as the students came in.

"Good morning! Your final has been scheduled to May 3rd! Don't forget to actually study!

For today, proove to me that prom has math in it. Both classes. Also, ask if you have any questions about any material that has been covered here since January."

Numerous pens, paints, glitter, brushes and other bits and pieces are set out the front.

Today... )

"Madainn mhath, a chlas," Camulus begins as usual. "Turn to page 173 in your books, we'll be looking at a simple poem called 'Pangur Bán', which is usually titled in English 'The Scholar and his Cat'. It was written in what is called Classical Gaelic as it existed before the languages split into their modern forms of the Irish Gaelige and the Scottish Gaidhlig.

He read the poem in Gaelic. )

And then in English. )

"This poem was found in the margins of a manuscript in the Monastery of St Paul, in Carinthia, Austria. It seems to have been written by an Irish monk, sometime around the ninth century. 'Pangur' is a sort of default name for a cat, much like the modern 'Rover' or 'Fido' for a dog.

"You'll notice that this poem breaks from the conventions of the dan direach that I was lecturing about last lesson . . ."

And on he went.

Who knew that a cute little poem about a scholar and his cat could be so full of detail that would require so much lecturing?

[[If you have sound, you can hear the poem being read here.]]
