[OOC: There was going to be a lesson involving Latin texts and a robot today. Mun went to baseball game last night. Mun too tired to skim the text to make an accurate crack class. Mun sleeps instead of writing awesome class. Mun offers up fluff class. Mun talks like Rover, but with yawns instead of bounces. Class Info Link.]

Duty calls collect, and I must accept the charges! A few brief things before I run off for Justice!

*[livejournal.com profile] connie_the_kid and [livejournal.com profile] rosefern_todd are dropped from the class due to not showing up at all, unfortunately. [livejournal.com profile] _steele_ has left the school of his own free will. May their days be filled with enacting justice upon those who would undermine it.

*[livejournal.com profile] aka_vala and [livejournal.com profile] time_agent are new to the class! Please welcome them!

*Remember, class, my Sidekick Tryouts will take place all day on Sunday!

*Today's discussion is more of a bonding exercise. Prepare a battlecry for when you leap into the fray in the name of Justice and share it with the class.

*You can still hand in this week's Extra Credit: What is the cutest kitten you have ever seen?

That is all for now, class. I'll see you next week, after the World is done needing me to save it from Doers of Evil!

[OOC: Whoops. Messed up an HTML tag. It's fixed. Today's class actually exists now.]

(In Gaelic)Isaac and I will be out of town until next week, so please excuse him from his classes.

A voice from down the hall... "...Mother?!"

The classroom is empty this morning, but Spider's left a note on the desk.

Assistant,

Take attendance, remind everyone of out-standing extra credit assignment, tell photojournalism students that I want pictures of the various students running for office (not the damn Homecoming whatsit) on my desk by Monday. Next week's homework is going to be pieces on our various aspiring politicians and I want pictures to go with.

Also, find out whatever happened to the student newspaper, as we need an electoral issue.

S

P.S. Find some idiot who wants to do a write-up on Homecoming. Information, pictures of candidates, statements from candidates and put together an organizational flyer. If it's done right, they get to skip homework for the rest of the year.

Methos opens the library earlier than he has for the last couple of days, and looks like he's had a bit more sleep. He contiues cataloging books, but this time he appears to be wearing a pair of headphones. The tinny sound of rock music can be heard if you are very, very close.

*In staying with yesterday's theme, the students have an exam today. Sara doesn't consider the exam brutal, personally. Then again, she was the one who wrote the damned thing.*

Please remember to sign the roll sheet as you turn in your exam. No lab this afternoon.

*She stays behind the desk, nursing a coffee.*

[The Doctor, quite frankly, looks rather haggard this morning, as if he's been through a war. And back. And through one again. Still, he shuffles a few papers and attempts to start a discussion.]

First off: homework. Turn it in.

Secondly, let's talk about it. Historical events that you'd like to witness. That's the key word here, WITNESS. No changing anything, no pulling a cute intern or shagging the captain of the fleet, no interference of any major sort. This can be catastrophic.

And I suggest you don't go anywhere where you'll run into yourself. That can be even more catastrophic. [does NOT look at [livejournal.com profile] aroseintime]

So, let's talk.

[He's swiped coffee from Spider Jerusalem's coffee maker, but brought his own immense mug that reads 'Too Hot to Handle', and is mainlining it.]

((Mun: [breaks] Things around here are...not so good, and I apologise for any inconvenience.))

Last time we looked at the Villanovan period of Rome. Now, we're looking at some Grecian stuff. Let's look at some temples and talk about the religion associated with them. *turns off lights and puts up slides*

Homweork: Write me a small paragraph about the Parthenon's archaeological significance. What was it made for? What mythological scenes appear on the friezes and metopes? And don't forget to hand in any missing assignments.

History of the Ancient World
Thursday 12:30-3:30 pm

Seimei strolled in, sipping from his tea. At his desk, he assembled his scroll for the class discussion.

Discussion question:

Authorities do not all agree about the definition of civilization. Most accept the view that "a civilization is a culture which has attained a degree of complexity usually characterized by urban life." In other words, a civilization is a culture capable of sustaining a substantial number of specialists to cope with the economic, social, political, and religious needs of a populous society.

Discuss (in broad terms) some of the characteristics usually present in a civilization.

"You may also use this class time to work and research on the essay question due next Thursday."

Class Roster. Signups are now CLOSED.

The classroom is dark, with the shades pulled down and the windows underneath it painted black. The electric lights have not been turned on, but instead candelabras have been lit and placed throughout the classroom. On the desk sits a blonde, fair-skinned, rosy-cheeked porcelain doll in a black dress. The doll is missing its eyes. Behind the desk is a chalkboard that has been covered completely with scribbles of various colors of chalk.

Drusilla stands in the front of the room, waiting for her students to attend.

"Lesson one," she says simply as they walk in and take their seats. On each desk is a photocopy of a chapter of a psychology text on various psychological disorders and a sheet entitled "HOMEWORK: Find a picture of insanity."

"Understanding insanity. How do you understand it? How do you define it? Discuss. Ask questions of each other and of me. And remember--" She gestures to the doll and smiles. "Miss Edith will be watching for troublemakers. And I'm absolutely brutal about detentions."

Seimei makes note of those in class. He unrolls his scroll and then settles down at this table.

Discuss the First Emperor’s ‘Legalist proposal’ and it’s subsequent effects on China’s population.

"When done, you may use the rest of the time in class to work on your essay question due Monday." Seimei paused before gesturing to a tea set being brought in by a young woman. "And enjoy. It's Gyokuro and quite satisfactory."

Feagar math, everyone. I'd just like to mention that very few people handed in their homeowrk from Tuesday's class. *eyes flash* I'm taking notes. On with the lessons.

Celtic Language (CELT 100) Lesson Two )

Arthurian Tradition (CELT 120) Lesson Two )

That will be everything. I will not be available in my office tonight, as I made the mistake of eating the food from the cafeteria and will be recuperating in my sarcophagus quarters.

[[In other words, Cammie-mun is still very, very sick and will be going to bed, directly to bed, do not pass party, do not collect two pints.]]
[identity profile] drgrissom.livejournal.com
Please take your seats, and the quiz will begin.

I hope you remembered to look at your study guide before the quiz.

THE QUIZ

5 Questions - 4 Multiple Choice, 1 Fill-in Definition. You must complete this quiz to stay enrolled in the class.

Reading for Next Class: THE POSSESSION SYNDROME ON TRIAL, from the American Journal of Forensic Psychiatry Be prepared to discuss the validity of possession as legal defense when charged with a crime.

Your quiz will act as the sign-in sheet. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I am also still searching for a TA, if you would like to apply. Thank you.

So, last week I asked you to let me know what you and your partner were planning to do for your projects. So far, only two of the six pairs gave me answers. I need answers from the rest of you tonight.

Next week, we start working on our projects.

[livejournal.com profile] taylorjustin and [livejournal.com profile] kinneybrian - advertising business
[livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek and [livejournal.com profile] the4thsister - catering company
[livejournal.com profile] aka_vala and [livejournal.com profile] veronicamars1
[livejournal.com profile] allie_cameron and [livejournal.com profile] lisacuddy
[livejournal.com profile] 12parseckessel and [livejournal.com profile] rygelxvi
[livejournal.com profile] iwasawesome and [livejournal.com profile] not_an_ex_demon

Any pair that doesn't give me an answer tonight is out of the class.

ETA: In addition, I am looking for a teaching assistant. Comment here or leave a message on my voicemail if you're interested.

[ooc: tonight is defined as before next thursday when class meets again]

I'm very pleased at how yesterday went, so today again will be completely oral excercises. These means, choose a partner or two and carry on a conversation for the duration of the class period, in any of the langugages we are studying in class. I will be grading you on accuracy, pronounciation, and how you explain yourself in anything but English should you hit a snag in your vocabulary so far.

Remember to sign up for an
in-class presenation if you have not. Friday is the last day signups will be accepted.

[ooc: a note on class times here.]
[identity profile] isnotimportant.livejournal.com
[Remember that there are still five or six vacancies in this class -- go here to sign up.]

We need a topic for next week. As you know, the structure established for the class means that you write a hundred-word essay on the week's topic, being sure to submit it by Saturday evening ... and then we come together as a group on Monday to discuss our findings.

I try to chose topics which, once mastered, will help the students to cope better with their lifestyle. I try to choose topics which will promote careful research and lively debate. Most of all, I try to choose topics which will be of interest to the students who are signed up.

This week's topic is sex. I'm a little baffled by the interest that this topic engenders, but it does seem to be curiously popular and lots of sentient beings claim it plays a central role in any measure of how well their lifestyle is going. For these reasons it's sensible to make it a part of this course.

So one hundred words on this week's topic, please, in a comment below. Please try to explain just how issues surrounding this topic affect your lifestyle -- both positively and negatively.

A brief description of the position regarding ages of consent in your usual home may be helpful, but it won't be included in the word count.
