Roommates

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005 12:30 am
[identity profile] principalconnor.livejournal.com
Would those students rooming in the dorms please comment here?

Any student who would like to share a room can look for a roommate here. Students may request a single, but they must keep a respectable grade point average and not be caught with contraband as stated in the handbook.

EDIT: For the record, we'll be having more than ten teachers. Because from the size of the student roster, it appears we'll be needing them.

Syllabus for all English courses.

I'm here to teach you how to see the hidden meaning in the English language -- the subtle beauty that lies within the sleek curves of a sibilant or the careful crunch of a well-bitten off syllable. You'll learn how to write clearly and effectively and hopefully even gain the ability to see the subtext that lies within every work that has ever been created.

I, er. I hope you're all ready and willing to experience the full beauty of language in its every aspice.

Ok, folks. I've been checking scrapyards around here, and while it may not be much, I found us a junker surface transport hover shuttle to practice flying in. Anyone who wants into the To The Black Club sign up here, and we'll begin looking for faculty sponsorship.

Journalism Course Information and Registration

Five courses are available, and I'll be placing a description and sign-up sheet up tomorrow somewhere public. Please state clearly which courses you are interested in taking and whether you are interested in the work-study, special extra-credit options or any other questions.

Office hours are most evenings from 1800 CST to 2100 CST. I will be available to you on any weekend in which I have to sit detention. You can reach me on AIM at CallousTruths or through e-mail at JournalismProf @ gmail . com and if you try to address me on any subject other than school work outside the class room I reserve the right to make you the subject of my next published column... or at least use your name. Humorously.

Please also note that weekly assignments will be placed on the main board and you will have one week to post your completed assignments in the comments section. That having been said:

Journalism Course Sign-up )

In other news, I'm searching for a Teaching Assistant. This will count as an internship and possibly come with the standard 'hazard pay'. It's in my contract with the government shitheads. Please contact me privately if you are interested in this position.

Listed below are my class rosters. If you would like to be added or removed from a class this semester, please indicate by commenting.

Edit:

Biology is officially closed. I am sorry for any inconvenience, but perhaps you can take the next session offered.

Physics is also closed. The only class I am now accepting students for is Geology.

Geology has also closed. Thank you for your interest. I'm now off to find a bar.

I'm teaching speech and communication. I'll have 3 sections.

Speech 101, Intro to Public Speaking. I strongly suggest that those of you who are less than comfortable speaking in front of other people take this class. There will be no heckling.

Speech 201 Advanced Public Speaking is designed for those of you who don't get nervous, but still sound more like George Bush rather than George Stephanopoulos in front of a crowd.

Speech 301 Interpersonal Communication is more theory based, and will look at how people communicate with one another.

I will not tolerate anything out of the normal. It messes with my zen. So no, you know, psychic powers or crying and begging. Sucking up is ok though.

OK, next. I don't have a syllabus. Show up, do the work, improve, you get an A. Don't show up, don't work, don't improve, get an F. Rarely show up, do half assed work, and suck up...hmm...probably still have to fail you, but I will think fondly of you when you're gone. Is that enough for you?

Just so we're absolutely clear, you'll be doing S-P-E-E-C-H-E-S. Hence, public speaking. You'll be persuading...mostly. You'll have to spin some stuff to. And depending on my mood, I might teach you how to woo, but probably not since you're all far too young and wooing is a very dangerous skill in the wrong hands.

Ok, since we think best in the mornings, 101 is at 8am MWF, 201 is at 9am MTR, and 301 will be daily at 10.

If there's an interest, I am willing to head up a debate club too.

Ok guys, thanks. That's a full lid. I'll let you know if anything else comes up.

Below is the overall schedule for the Physics, Biology, and Geology labs. No equipment may be brought into or out of the lab.

And be warned--I busted the Strip Strangler and a serial killer with a fondness for flight attendents. I will know if something has been altered and I will know who was the perpetrator. The body farm is always looking for donations.

[ooc: mun apologizes for the constant editing. This is harder than I expected to figure out. I'm going to work on some stuff and repost, but it's good to know what languages people are interested in.

Again, sorry for being flakey.]

OOC: Augh, I know I'm behind on adding students. All English & Honors English & Creative Writing classes are now officially closed; everyone who's commented thus far will be added to the roster when I get back from class this afternoon.

Anyone interested in a club of some sort for those of us who like to build... things? My classmates at my old school never really understood the fun in taking things apart and making them *better*, but I get the feeling some of you guys might!
[identity profile] principalconnor.livejournal.com
There may be two Deaths, and there may be two Daniel Jacksons.

Will anyone who has attempted sign up as either character please step forward and ... well, bicker amongst yourselves about who gets to be which one? 'Cause I'm a minute and a half from stepping away from the computer for eight hours and I kind of can't break this one up.

Athletic Clubs

I cannot believe I am posting this, but I do feel some interaction is necessary.

Is there anyone interested in a kendo/fencing club? I fear I am not familiar with the western form of swordfighting, but I am quite competent in basic kendo, as well as my own school of fighting. I would not be against instructing basic kendo, but would need a co-captain for Western swordfighting ... if there is a call for it.

Of course, this all depends on whether or not the athletic instructor will sponser us ... or maybe some other faculty member will? Suggestions would be appreciated.

There'll be a meeting after school on Friday to determine who's doing what and how often the paper will be published, as well as giving us the opportunity to pool our resources and figure out times to meet. Laptops not required, but fairly good grasp of the English language is, unless you're a photographer. I'm Editor in Chief at the moment, but comment saying whether you'd like write or photograph for the paper.

We probably don't want over twenty people to start out with, though once we've figured out how big our workload is and how often we're getting the paper out, we may ask for more people to join. Also, if your name is on the list with no job next to it, please tell me what you want to be doing.

I have the cameras and a few laptops and a few desktops. How many? Who gets one? That's up for me to know and you to fight over.

First come, First serve. All of the computers are outfitted with the OS of your choice. Desktops come with rudimentary speakers, monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Laptops come with a mouse, a case, and an extra charger. All of the computers are cleared to be hooked up to the network. The cameras are all types, any that you can think of. People with computers are first in line to get digital cameras (I am certain there are a few in the closets.). Desktops will be delivered by me, or by someone authorized to do so. I'll be the one authorizing.

You'll have to fill out a form, but then you get to keep it, no questions asked as to what's on it. I want them back when to look over every few weeks.

Also, as mentioned, I am available for club sponsorship. Clubs looking for me to sponsor them should comment here.

To help prevent any conflict, each course has two "sections". Simply pick one. If there is a course you still wish to take and it still conflicts, please contact me and we can try to come up with some sort of arrangement:

All classes have Independent Study available.

I was really bummed to find out they don't offer any classes in Herbology or Natural Magick here. Is anybody interested in starting a Wildcrafting Club? I thought we could go out once or twice a week into the woods and fields around the school and try identifying plants and herbs, and maybe looking for power spots or something. It'd be way more fun if we did it as a group plus I'm not sure I want to go into those woods alone.

The more intelligent amongst you, (a minute number I know) will have realised that there are many forms you need to submit to me, the School Administrator, and there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.

I am not your mother.

This means that if a form has to be in by a certain time and date, it is up to you to get it in on time. I will not chase people up who have forms due in. If you miss the deadline – tough titties.

It is also up to you to check the forms are filled in correctly. I really can’t be bothered haven’t got the time to follow up people too stupid to fill in a simple form correctly. All such forms will be filed in my scrap paper box, and I will deny all knowledge of said form.

Just giving you due warning.

I also control the stationery store room. This room is only accessible through my office, and no student may enter the stationery store room unless accompanied by myself. Teachers will be allowed in unsupervised provided they clear with me first the supplies they are planning to take. Anyone planning to try and circumvent my rules should be aware the storeroom has its own defences, and is related to the detention room. The storeroom and I have an exceedingly good relationship. (On that note, [Bad username or site: ”principalconnor” @ livejournal.com], do we have a school nurse yet? Or possibly a good emergency doctor?)

I also hold all forms such as permission slips, late slips and stationery request forms. Again do not attempt to retrieve these from my filing cabinet yourselves. It’s not just paper I’m filing in there.

Also, the pole in my office? Completely for structural purposes. If anyone suggests any differently, they’re a liar, liar pants on fire.

Students wishing to get on my good side, may use the pole to perform in an attempt to impress me. Can’t promise it will work though

Sorry I'm late - I own my own business in Stars Hollow and we had major chaos today. See, this cat got into a guest's room and my assistant, Michel, refused to catch it and... oh... sorry... I sometimes get off on tangents... feel free to stop me if I do.

Okay... official business... since I do have to be at the Dragonfly Inn on weekdays and my classes are electives, they will be offered as evening classes.

Intro to Business
Tuesdays - 6-9

Studying basic business principles and how they apply to every day life.

Starting a Small Business
Thursdays - 6-9

Class will be split into project groups and will start a fake business.

I noticed a lot of other teachers are offering to sponser clubs. I am a really good seamstress if anyone is interested in a sewing circle.

Governments II

Supplemental to Governments I. Government in practice. This course is one of the major projects from Goverments II and can count for course credit. Students shall elect other students for govermental roles and fuction as a "real" working goverment presented with random events to be dictated by instructor. Creativity is encouraged. There are no specific meeting time, only reports to be handed to instructor by Friday at 5 PM. You will only get course credit if you complete the weekly report.

Students:

Because of employment problems, Death shall no longer be heading the math department at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. I shall be taking her place. I will continue to offer the courses she had originally outlined, but the way that they shall be run will be quite different.

Courses offered
Primary Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics, Advanced Theory: Origins, and Advanced Theory: Literature and Art

Since I'm the master breakdancer (or dancer for that matter) would anyone else in this school be interested in a club of the sort? It'll be fun~ Oh, and will this club be allowed in the school? If not, then that sucks. Just give me a heads up!

Alright, guys. Fandom High's piloting/flight club, "To The Black", has a faculty sponsor and is officially in business. We have a surface level transport vehicle, probably used as a police cruiser for prisoner transfer, so it'll have room for everyone in the club on board and will be secure enough once we rig it to break atmo and head offworld. But we'll cover the basics first.

We'll start organizing meetings once our schedules are set and Professor Amidala's able to give us some free time. Sign-up is gonna run until Thursday for anyone else who wants in. The shuttle is near the trees now, but I think we'll be moving it. A willow tree damn near killed me on my way there this morning, then I swear, hand to God, a tree told me to address it as "Treebeard" and asked if I was something called an "orc".

On another subject, do we have a basketball team?

This whole concept of school is new to me, really, I had tutors at home, when anybody bothered, that is. I think I am taking Diplomacy and Negotiations as I will need those back home. Also Greek and Roman Archaeology, which just sounds... like something I should know. I wanted to take this 'World History', but can't seem to find out when it takes place. I wanted to take 'Cat' with that delightful Dream professor, but alas, it conflicts.

I wonder if anyone wants to start a Tarot Readers Circle? We would need a sponser I guess. But maybe we could meet off campus. I live off campus, so that could work.

My computer is kind of possessed. I knew there was something wrong with that Shadow that Dworkin took me to for supplies.
