Romeo seemed at ease as he watched the students file in. Nostalgic, even. After all, it was a classroom much like this one -- perhaps even the same as this one -- in which he'd met his love.

The idea he could be helping the same magic happen was enough to lighten his romantic heart, weighed down under the burden of the last several weeks in Tokyo as it was.

"Hello," he began, once everyone was seated and seemed to be about as quiet as they would get. "My name is Romeo Montague, and I graduated from Fandom in 2009. I might answer the question in the course title first. No, love is not tender: Love is rude, and rough, and plays with us like pawns on a chess board. If that were all you came to hear, you might leave now and save my breath. "

"If you are staying, though -- and I hope you would -- we have far more to say."

"Such as that for all my partner-in-crime here might have you think, love is not the only topic of this course," Yurika quipped, her utter exhaustion over the events of the past few weeks hidden expertly behind her persona. "You can call me 'Miss Dojima,' or just 'Dojima.'"

"But don't count out lust, UST, innuendo, and hook-ups when you're looking for companionship. It doesn't need to be messy or complicated, until it is."

"And the problem is that there's no map that shows where it will become messy or complicated," Romeo sighed. "Neither of us expected more than a pleasant evening at a dance when we met, and here it is, five years later. You cannot always control your heart. The most you can do is be prepared, and at least try to think before you jump into anything." Not that Romeo was any good at that, but he knew enough to parrot the advice by now.

Yurika added, "If you're already sexually active, you've heard this before and you'll hear it again. Carry condoms. Get checked at the clinic. Doesn't matter if you like kissing boys, girls, anthropomorphic personifications, shape-shifters, whatever; Fandom throws us curveballs when we least expect it. Whatever type of relationship you favor, there's some things - while completely unromantic - are important to your health and that of the object of your affection. Do everyone a favor, and be good to yourself."

"We'll say far more in the next two months, but that is the root of it," Romeo said, almost wishing Yurika was a little less practical. "And now it is your turn. First weeks are for introductions; tell us your name, grade, and the story of the first time you met someone you loved. If you've not loved, someone you cared for, even if it was not requited. If you've neither loved nor liked --"

And there he looked to Yurika, out of ideas.

"Let's hear about your favorite hook-up! Keep it PG-13, though, 'cause it's class," she offered cheerfully. "Or your favorite pick-up line. Or the worst pick-up line you've ever heard. There's some terrible ones out there."

The class had been asked to meet in the Danger Shop today, which looked like an ordinary classroom when they arrived.

"Good morning, everyone," Steve said, "and welcome to 21st Century 101. I'm Mr. Rogers, your teacher, and as far as my qualifications go, I was frozen in 1945 and woke up in handwavey year, Marvel timeline is sliding. It was a big adjustment. While my experience is more toward coming from the past and learning to deal with more advanced technology and different social standards, I'm hopeful those of you from more futuristic timelines will benefit from this class, as well. Learning to deal with less advanced technology than you're used to can be stressful, as well. This week we're going to have introductions, and then we'll move on to a series of activity stations where you can learn about some of the basics of getting along in the twenty-first century. You may already know all of this, in which case it might seem a bit silly, but please try to remember that some of your classmates might not and it's not silly to them. Tony Stark," he said, gesturing to Tony if he was there, "is from this time period and will be my TA for this class, so if you have any questions you don't feel comfortable asking me, that's what he's here for."

"So, we'll start with the introductions. I'd like your name, where you're from, and a brief description of the technology in your time period. We'll start with...you," he said, picking a student at random.

If there was any significance to the fact that the Danger Shop looked like a backyard decked out with a makeshift archery range and training dummies, Kennedy wasn't saying. Anyway, it seemed like a nice mix of kickback and "time to do work." She was pacing back and forth on the far side of the yard by the archery target, waiting for everyone to filter in through what would be the back door.

Anyone who didn't know her might wonder what a short, lightly built girl who didn't look that much older than them knew about the workshop's subject matter, even if she did carry herself like she thought she could take anything on. Or not, if they knew better than to go by appearances.

"Hey," she said once everyone-- she was pretty sure-- had arrived. "So yeah, this is Kicking Ass, Teamwork-Style, just in case you were wondering where you were. If this is what you signed up for, you're in the right place. If not... might be useful anyway, so stick around."

She tucked her thumbs into her belt and kept pacing, looking over the students (and she was sure Vi and Rona were laughing at this concept right now) as she went on. "I'm Kennedy, Fandom class of 2011, and I'm a Vampire Slayer-- which, in case any of you guys are vampires, relax. You're safe from me. Unless you end up snacking on one of the other students, 'cause then we might have to have words."

She paused with a sheepish look on her face, having actually realized that sounded kind of intimidating, and cleared her throat before going on quickly. "So yeah, this is gonna be about working together and, you know, not getting all up in each other's faces." She was such an expert at that, right? There was probably a synchronized Scooby eyeroll happening across multiple time zones right now.

"It's not like the world has to almost end for this stuff to be useful, by the way. Even if you're not gonna go home after Fandom and do this for a living, it kinda helps to know how to work with other people in a crisis situation." (She had not come up with that part of the intro spiel. Or most of it. Willow had listened to her rattle off the first version of it and made a long color-coded list of suggestions. Miraculously, Kennedy had actually taken a couple of them.) "So anyway. I want to know a little bit about you guys, and what you're doing in this class. I know the introductions thing gets really old really fast, but I actually do want to know so I know what to cover here. Name, class, powers if you have 'em and are cool talking about that, something you're good at that would be useful in a fight or a crisis, anything you might want to cover the next few weeks."

Kennedy waited a moment before adding, "Oh, and if you do have powers, don't rub it in for everyone who doesn't, yeah?"

Buffy.

Bond had handwavily informed his class to meet him by the school gates. Unlike his icon would suggest, he was actually wearing a shirt

"Good afternoon, class," he said once they'd all arrived. "I'm Professor Bond, and I'll be taking you for Survival Skills, we're going to be covering a range of topics in this class, but we're going to stick with introductions this week. Starting with an introduction to jogging." Yes, he thought he was terribly clever there as he started the class off in a slow circuit of the island.

After they'd had enough time to find a rhythm, he continued without breaking stride. "So I can get an idea of where everyone is at, I'd like your names, class, any experiences with survival training or skills you may already have, and if there are any area in particular you might like to study.

"For example, as I mentioned before, my name is Bond, and in my homeworld, I was formerly part of Her Majesty's Navy, more specifically the Special Boat Service, the selection and training process for which involves intense wilderness survival." He gestured to the nearest student. "Now you. Also, I encourage you all to speak with and ask questions of your classmates if you find any overlaps."
