Class yesterday had been interesting enough that Gabrielle'd made up her mind today would be a Bāguàzhǎng research day, and drifted into that section of the stacks every now and then, between other tasks, to pick out a volume or two on the subject.

"Picking out" said books, of course, turned out to be a matter of trying to circle around them and sneak up from behind.

Gabrielle wasn't really surprised about that; moreover, she was grateful the books didn't seem to have Xena's ridiculous level of eyes-in-the-back-of-her-head awareness.

Once again, the class was in the Danger Shop. There were several piles of different things in the room today: ski equipment, helmets, goggles, and cold weather gear. That might have given an indication as to what was coming.

"Today," Fraser started, smiling, "we're going to be going cross country skiing. Cross country skiing is a winter sport in which participants propel themselves across snow-covered terrain using skis and poles. It's different from a lot of the skiing you might see on television in that you don't go down steep slopes or over moguls or anything like that. It's a straight shot across flat land which makes it a sport of endurance and stamina."

Fraser walked over to the pile of ski equipment. "Cross country skiing requires skis, of course, ski poles, bindings, and waxes. That's in addition to the cold weather gear of the ski boots, helmets, jumpsuits and goggles to keep warm. You're all going to be required to wear those and there are no exceptions."

Now, with that said, Fraser demonstrated how to put on the skis and how to propel yourself with the poles. It wasn't a very graceful technique but it worked. With that done, he got the sim going, revealed a beautiful stretch of snowy area. "Get into your gear, put on your skis, and get to hoofing it!"

"One myth of combat that seems to persevere no matter what, is that there is some way a fight can be civilized," Ghanima stated.

Like, you know, not hitting a chick when she's tryin' to kill you because apparently they're weaker or something. I got my ass kicked by Squirrel Girl. But then again, so did Thanos and Doom. So I feel comfortable with that )

Deadpool just had to add, "...but chick fights are hot."

He knew Ghanima was going to hit him upside the head for that, right? Right.

And she knew he would smack her ass back, right? Right. "So, all you little feebs are gonna talk to each other about times when you've didn't fight by the rules and or fought a girl. Yes, both genders have to talk about it."

Kerrigan was not unsettled.

That would be ridiculous.

Most of what she could remember of the weekend was of having a sickening clarity that the zerg in her did not comprehend, and she didn't like it. At all.

As a result, her interest in teaching had reached an all-time low.

"Train for your examinations," she said, dismissively. "You can use any Danger Shop simulation we've made use of the past few months. Miniature versions of the simulations can be activated from the door control panel. Disperse, and don't let me catch any of you thinking about the weekend."

And she could enforce that.

"We're going to have to combine two classes this week, I'm afraid if LJ and my internet connection ever stay up long enough for me to effing post, but you'll get muffins and cookies out of it, so I don't think you'll complain too much, right? Anyway, today we move on into baking. Baking is complicated. It doesn't just matter which ingredients you use--which, it does; there are chemical reactions involved in baking and if you mess around with them you can go astray very easily. You have to be very careful about amounts of ingredients, so be sure to measure instead of just throwing things into a bowl. And the technique you use to combine those ingredients matters, too. It sounds like a lot, but as long as you follow instructions you should be fine.

"Now, everyone preheat their ovens to 350 and let's get started )
