Once again, the Danger Shop was the place to be for today's class. Fraser was flipping through some paperwork as the students filed in. Once they'd all assembled, he put the paperwork down and smiled.

"Good morning," he greeted. "Today, we're going mountain biking. For those that may not now, mountain biking is the act of riding a bike off road, across generally rough terrains therefore making it sometimes more dangerous and more draining than regular biking. Mountain biking can be broken down into multiple categories: cross country, trail riding, all mountain, downhill, freeride, street riding, dirt jumping and trials. For today's purposes, we're going to be concentrating on trail riding. When people speak of mountain biking, they're generally talking about this one. It basically means riding point-to-point or in a loop including climbs and descents on a variety of terrain."

With that done, Fraser stepped aside to bring out a mountain bike for all to see. While they were checking it out, he passed out a handout on protective gear that they all had to read. Their protective gear for the activity was stowed on one side of the room. Once they'd finished reading, Fraser detailed the difference between a mountain bike and a regular bike and demonstrated how everything worked.

"Today, we're in Dauphin, Pennsylvania so we can ride the Stony Valley Rail Trail. It's an easy trail so take your time and challenge yourself, if you'd like. Be careful, wear all your protective equipment and spend time enjoying the scenery while getting yourself familiar with the bikes that are located near your safety equipment. Feel free to ride alone or with a buddy. And have fun."

With that, Fraser got the simulation started and it was time to mountain bike!

After handwavily informing class to dress in clothing they didn’t mind getting dirty and to meet up in the danger shop, they were greeted by the most awesome of all things:

When Gabrielle had left her room this morning to head out to the library for her shift, she'd found a box wrapped in purple paper with yellow question marks all over it sitting just outside her door.

Now, you'd think a mystery gift like this ought to be treated with a little more suspicion, especially in Fandom, but Gabrielle was nothing if not a trusting sort and had -- assuming it was for her -- opened it on the spot. When the resultant cloud of multicolored sparkles had cleared she'd found herself in possession of a life-sized plushie chicken. That made no sense whatsoever, and she'd hardly been hurting for the loss of a life-sized plushie chicken in her life, but she wasn't one to look random gift poultry in the . . . er . . . beak.

Which was why said chicken, which she'd summarily named Solari (and the Amazon weaponsmaster would give her such a look if she knew she had a toy avian namesake), was perched on the desk near Gabrielle's elbow as she continued her reading through the Tao Te Ching. Gabrielle might argue that it was an appropriate name for the plush chicken; someone had to guard the desk while she was off shelving or taking care of other tasks.

The chicken, at least today, couldn't argue back.

In addition to the coffee, soda, and various flavors of ice cream that Ben had provided for the first meeting of the AV Club, Ben had also hauled in some of the many bits of half-completed technology that lived under his bed. Given the sort of people he expected to attract to his club, he thought they might enjoy poking at his astromech droid and holoprojector.

"Hi everyone," he said with a quick smile as they finished arriving. "I'm Ben Skywalker. I'm a junior and work over at Fixer-Uppers--you know, the store in town with the sign?" --Ben meant the really bright sign--"and this is the AV Club. Since today's our first meeting and I'm kind of unoriginal, I figured we can start with introductions. Let's get your name, your age, and...a story about the most astral thing you ever tried to build."

That way he could get a handle on the level of technology people were used to working with, too! He felt quite brilliant. "Let's start with you," he said, pointing.

"Last week we went over how to do laundry in a washing machine," Steve said. "However, there are going to be a wide variety of circumstances under which laundry won't or can't be done in a machine. You may be dealing with a delicate fabric that can't handle the unnatural stresses of a washing machine--some undergarments fall in this category. Or a washing machine may simply be unavailable. What then? )
