"Today, we're talking bad karaoke," said Mike as he fired up the first Danger Shop simulation of a performer who had no sense of pitch. "What makes karaoke bad? Singing off-key, messing up the words, and singing something well outside your skill level can make your performance cringe-worthy. Most of the time, bad karaoke is preceded by excessive drinking, which impairs your ability to choose a song that works for you. Folks, you really don't want to be like this. Not only will you look and sound bad, but you have a good shot at getting hit in the head by a flying beer bottle."

Mike started playing the second simulation which does not resemble any sort of Julia Roberts/Cameron Diaz movie. "On the flip side of things, sometimes bad karaoke can be pretty good, under the right circumstances," he said. "What helped this would-be singer win over the crowd? Yes, she couldn't sing, but there was real heart-felt emotion behind the song. She was looked terrified at the beginning, but she had some real confidence towards the end.  She even managed to laugh at herself. It probably didn't hurt that she was cute as a button."

[In case you're having trouble with the YouTube links, the first video is a horribly attempt at singing a Barbra Streisand song. The second is the karaoke scene from "My Best Friend's Wedding." Please wait for the OCD is up. Have at it!]

Marshall had handwavily asked the students to meet him at the Danger Shop today. It looked like a normal classroom for the moment.

“Okay guys, today we’re going to cover where a good place to meet future girl/boyfriends is. I am not going to say that these rules are set in stone. Love is a very mysterious thing and can strike anywhere,” Marshall said. “You could meet your future husband or wife in a ball pit at McDonald’s. Just make sure they had an okay reason for being in the ball pit in the first place. There are some sick weirdos out there...”

“So, let’s start with bars. Bars...great place to meet people, yes. Great place to meet potential boy or girlfriends? Not so much. Most people at bars are looking for, well, you know what they’re looking for,” Marshall said. “Not that is a bad thing. But this class is about relationships, not one night stands. Weddings and funerals? Also not good. It’s just wrong to pick up people at funerals. Weddings seem like a good idea but single women are usually emotional wrecks during weddings and the men are most likely drunk. Any number you get from weddings should be dialed with caution.”

“Good places to meet people: schools, the park, places with karaoke, laser tag, grocery stores…pretty much any place where you are doing normal everyday things. It’s less pressure to be cool for everyone involved,” Marshall said. He paused. “Okay, laser tag and karaoke aren’t really normal but if you find somebody interested in either then they are definitely a keeper.”

“So you’re at laser tag, the grocery store, whatever and you find somebody you’re interested in. That’s only half the battle. You’ve got to actually start on a conversation and ask for a date,” Marshall smiled. “Which is what we’ll be doing today.”

“I’ve assigned you all a partner and a place. One of you will have the job of asking the other person out on a date,” Marshall said. “Good luck.”

The class met in the Danger Shop today, as handwavily ordered.  The room was set to a giant circle, with plenty of overstuffed pillows for laying on in the center.  Along the edges were small round tables, each with two chairs and various items placed upon them.

Once the bell rang, Ghanima looked up from where she was sprawled on the floor playing with some cards and smiled.  "Destiny," she began with preamble, dropping the cards and pushing to her feet.  "Refers to a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the universe."

"Today, it's time for you to face your destiny."  Ghanima gestured to the tables ringing the room.  "Pair up, wander around, and pick a method of divination that speaks to you.  Read your own destiny, or that of your partner, and then discuss if you agree or disagree with the results you obtained."

After his weekend in New York City, Sam was hoping for an easy day in the library, to help him wind back down. Everything seemed quiet when he headed inside, but then he got to the main desk, and saw the X marked on the surface. Setting his breakfast down, he went around and peered under the desk, poking carefully at the wee treasure chest he found sitting on the floor.

When he stood up, he noticed just how many Xs were around the rest of the library, and set about checking the ones he could find. His first sweep resulted in eight chests, which he laid out on the table closest to the door. Maybe the chocolate would draw people in for once.

Fandom Island had had just about enough of the cold, and the polar bears, and - really - dancing penguins were the absolute limit.

Had anyone been under the school to hear the machinery crackle into life, it would have sounded like nothing so much as a crotchety old man, yelling at kids to get off his lawn.

With a flick and a whirr, it chose a new location. Somewhere warm, this time. With no penguins.

Ahhh, Tortuga. The island settled happily between Tortuga and Haiti, dropping the Causeway neatly onto a Tortugan beach where there was a convenient and regular ferry across to the mainland.

Sure, hundreds of years ago it had been full of pirates, but they were hardly likely to be a problem now. Right?

When the class entered the Danger Shop they would have found themselves standing just outside a strange looking castle that was made of bright blocks. Stretched out before them looking like a gauntlet of some sort; bright green pipes, brick blocks hanging in the air, strange moving mushrooms, upright walking turtle things, and green pipes as far as the class could see and every once in a while a flower would pop up out of the pipe and chop at the air with it’s... Mouth?

Arashi smiled at everyone as they came in. "Welcome to week two, I’m sure this is kind of a disappointment after facing a giant Demon last week, but I was inspired by my son while I was visiting home." He shrugged and walked towards the area, which made several of the mushroom things move towards him and glare. Well, glare more than usual.

“So the point to this class is to find the pipe that you can go down to get to the exit while avoiding the mushrooms, turtles and venus fly traps that will eat you. And before any one asks,” he said smiling. “The mushrooms and the turtles can be reasoned with, the plants cannot. Now, I found this video for you all to watch to see how it can be done.” As Arashi said that a screen appeared in the wall showing a weetiny man jump his way through something that looked like the gauntlet with amazing speed. “See easy, right?”

The Danger Shop was once again made up like a garage, except outside of it instead of the interior. John was standing by the probably by now familiar black chevy.

"Good morning," he said. He handed each student a handout. "That there is a good overview of what makes up a car engine and how it works. I thought, before we got into the fixing of same, we'd make sure you'd have some experience with how one works. So we're going to go for a drive." He grinned. "Virtually speaking.

"You'll both have a chance to take the wheel and go all out on the road." His grin turned wolfish. "Because in here you don't have to worry about crashing or being pulled over for speeding.

"So who wants to go first?"
