Library [07/14]

After his weekend in New York City, Sam was hoping for an easy day in the library, to help him wind back down. Everything seemed quiet when he headed inside, but then he got to the main desk, and saw the X marked on the surface. Setting his breakfast down, he went around and peered under the desk, poking carefully at the wee treasure chest he found sitting on the floor.

When he stood up, he noticed just how many Xs were around the rest of the library, and set about checking the ones he could find. His first sweep resulted in eight chests, which he laid out on the table closest to the door. Maybe the chocolate would draw people in for once.

Sam set about checking in books and checking his e-mail, but only after he'd retrieved a chest from inside the computer. He was trying very hard not to wonder how it had gotten in there.

The library was closed for lunch to everyone except the other aides and Dean, who was hopefully in the mood for chocolate today.

Dean had a number of tiny treasure chests with him and his mouth was full of chocolate when he came in. "Dude, free candy!" he said around the mouthful.

Sam took one look at Dean and burst out laughing. "I was wondering if you'd notice."

Dean gave him a look. "Dude."

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I underestimate your chocolate aura?"

"You're in a perky mood," Dean observed. "I take it the weekend getaway went good?"

"Yeah, it was really good. Peter and I saw some awesome museums," Sam said.

"Did you even think about sampling the night life?"

"Not really? We had to spend time with Peter's mother too, to keep her happy. So we did most of our sight seeing during the day and then stayed in during the evening."

Dean shook his head. "Weak," he teased.

"It was fun. We would have done more if we'd had more than a weekend, but we did enough," Sam said.

"Not sure I'd like you gone more than a weekend without me," Dean said, mostly joking.

Sam was playing with some of the coins, putting them into different sized stacks along the desk.

Peter came in with coffee. "I'm skipping donuts today," he said. "There's already enough sugar around here."

To demonstrate he pulled chocolate coins out of his coat pocket, which had been marked with an X.

Sam laughed, and started taking apart one of the stacks on the desk. "I've been trying not to overdose on chocolate. I don't want to know what the crash will feel like."

"Maybe we need a nice salt lick to balance it out," Peter suggested.

"I prefer pushing the sugar to someone else," Sam said, doing just that as he pushed one of the piles closer to Peter.

Peter helped himself to a coin. "So how's it going, other than all the Xs?"

"Pretty good, especially now that we're not in freezing territory anymore."

"New York wasn't that bad," Peter teased.

"I meant Antarctica," Sam said. "New York was great, I'm really glad we went."

"We'll have to go back," Peter said. "Ma will be thrilled, I'm sure."

"She wasn't as...intense as I expected," Sam said. "Or maybe I was better prepared to talk to her this time around."
