Mike had a smile on his face as he faced the students. "Don't worry. We're not going to be dealing with any weird languages today," he said.

"A few weeks back, we watched the movie 1999 and talked about the consequences of putting too much faith in technology. Today, we'll revisit that discussion after watching BattleDrill," he continued. "This time, someone puts a computer in charge of launching nuclear missiles. Afterwards, we'll talk about why it is so dangerous to use an easy-to-guess password."

Library [4.1]

It was a Tuesday, so Anemone hauled herself out of bed to go open the library.  Waking up as normal on Monday had been a bit of a shock, and she really kinda missed being little.

The class met in the Danger Shop which was changed up to look like a very formal banqueting hall complete with a high table lay with what looked like thousands of dishes and silverware.

Aly glanced at the class to make sure they were watching then hit the play button on the scenario and suddenly the hall was filled with people.  Servants walked in and out carrying dishes of delicious looking food and carafes of wine while a loud and rich-looking group of people dined at the high table, toasting each other and commenting happily on the food - and the servants - as it was paraded by.

She paused the scenario, and everyone in it disappeared except a regal looking young woman at the high table.  "This looks like a typical banquet, yes?" Aly asked, watching the class.  "And it is.  It's one of probably thousands of governmental or court banquets that happen every month in countries on just about every world.  It's typical in one more way too.  The vast majority of the food being passed is poisoned."

"The woman at the table is the one you've contracted to protect," she continued after pausing if there were any reaction.  "And it's your job in this class to keep her safe, keep her from dying of poison tonight."

Aly met the eyes of each of her students, making sure they were following.  "What I'd like each of you to do is to come up with a plan to do this - the subtler the better and present it to me so we can run the scenario and see what could happen."

"You are all free to ask as many questions as you like beforehand, and if you'd also present just a bit on your homework from last week - what you did with the spying gadgets you tried out."  She grinned.  "If any of you played with them while you were children, I definitely want to hear that too."

[OOC:  OCD coming up, modding of scenario totally encouraged, all questions can be answered either IG or in the OOC thread]

Today, Liir was at the front of the class and Miss Lulu sat at the back, looking encouragingly at him from her seat. He wasn't nervous, or didn't appear so anyway, but he did seem to be a bit stiff as he looked at the incoming students.

"Today," he said, "we're doing a variety of cream-based soups. These are always a good option if you have some dairy products that need to be used up, and they're especially good at keeping one warm. I've always liked them better than strictly stock-based recipes for that at least. My Nanny used to say it stuck to the bones better, but that's neither here nor there. Either way, for today, pick a partner and dive in. Though, er, not literally as that would be a stock.

"Also unsanitary."

"At each station is a variety of ingredients, as well as recipes for a number of different cream soups. Feel free to pick one of the provided or if you should know a recipe of your own, use that one instead. There should, however, be some manner of cream or, if you're vegan or can't stomach dairy, some manner of puree involved in the recipe. I'll be coming by to check on things so do bother me if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help."

[ocd will soon be up] [apologies for late class] [lulu modded with permission]

Juli was not particularly inclined to incite unrest and debate amongst her students today. Despite however entertaining that was, and she did find it entertaining, Juli was more inclined today let the students work it out themselves and record what they came up with.

That too was teaching. In a way.

On every second desk there was a set of cards made of heavy, thick paper. On each card was a image. “Mind reading is something that occurs in some worlds naturally. In other worlds it’s something that can be induced—whether through drugs, or surgery, or genetic altering before a child is born.”

“A common test devised to look for the ability to read minds is simply, looking at a card and having someone else try to know what card it is.” She leaned back in her chair. “That’s what you’ll be doing today. Pair off, and attempt to divine what’s on each card. Then discuss your results.”

Juli glanced over the class, eyebrows rising slightly. “Begin.”

And she’d just observe.

[Wait for the OCD is up! Yay!]

Let's get ready to rumble, gremlins! To apply, read the stuff below, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play and send it off.

Things you all need to know:
* You have to be at least 18 years of age to apply.
* This application session is open to EVERYONE - current players and newcomers alike!
* All players can have a maximum of five characters total and can play no more than four students and no more than two characters from the same fandom (alumni included in this cap)
* We will only accept one student and one teacher per player in this application session (you are welcome to send in as many applications as you like, but only one of each will be accepted. Feel free to specify which one you want to be your primary application)
* Students are required to (when instructed) sign up for 2 classes and keep up with those classes (sign your name into one post per class per week)
* Teachers are required to teach at least 1 class per week (for the entire term - that's 7 weeks), post on time regularly, keep an eye on your students, give them something to do each week and be accessible to students when needed.
* All accepted characters go on probation for the first summer term. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is not suited for the game, we'll talk to them about it and possibly remove them. It's hard to get to the removal stage, but possible.
* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

Teachers wanted!
We're looking for teachers! If you're stuck for an idea on what to teach, feel free to brainstorm with your fellow players (here or privately) or the admin team.

What's needed to apply:
* Make sure that the character you want to apply with isn't already here.
* Fill out the appropriate parts of the application form (link below).
* Be prepared to create a journal for your character that does not and will not contain entries from other games.
* Read the Fandom High handbook on fandomhigh.net. It contains all the rules/guidelines you'll need and will answer a lot of questions.
* Time commitment. This game is a LOT of fun, but things do happen quickly and it does require checking in a couple of times a week and throwing your character into threads wherever you find one you want. (You don't need to read everything. [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio summarizes everything every day).
* Language skills. Seriously, if you cannot write in complete sentences and use basic spelling and grammar then people are going to want to throttle you. That being said, we don't expect perfection. This game is based on interaction and you're going to want people to be able to understand you or they won't want to interact with you.

What happens once you've applied:
Once your application has been received, we will send you an email to confirm that we got it. Applications will then be held until the application period is closed. We will sort through them and let you know whether your character has been accepted or not before the semester starts. Please note: if we get two or more applications for the one character, we will ask every person who applied for that character to send in a back-up in case they don't get their first pick, so have a second choice on hand!

Accepted players will be asked to create the journal for their character, respond to the acceptable email and to accept invitations to the game communities. New characters are allowed to start playing on May 9. There will be a big welcome post for you all.

Notes for Current Players:
* If you are planning on dropping a character at the end of this semester, please let the admin team know ASAP via email or a comment here.
* Although the prospect of apping a new character is shiny and delightful, please take into consideration whether you will be able to keep up with all of your characters. If characters are neglected, it could hamper your chances of getting new characters in the future.

Sample Student Application
Sample Teacher Application

Application Form
You only need to fill out the parts that are relevant to the type of character you are applying for (ie: if you're a student applicant, don't fill in the stuff marked 'Townies Only').

If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us.

Here at Fandom High we have a soft character cap of 10 characters per fandom. This cap includes alumni characters. In order to keep a fair balance between fandoms while encouraging new players to join, we have decided that once the character cap of 10 is reached, we will still consider applications for characters from those "full" fandoms from new players only. There are currently no fandoms at full capacity, but some are getting close. You can check on your prospective fandom's character count by checking out the character roster on fandomhigh.net (linked above).

Applications close Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Email administration@fandomhigh.net with any questions and we'll try to respond promptly.

The next application session for students and teachers after this will be in June for a July start. Townie applications are always open.

Got a question? We're here to answer it!
