Library [4.1]

It was a Tuesday, so Anemone hauled herself out of bed to go open the library. Waking up as normal on Monday had been a bit of a shock, and she really kinda missed being little.

When you never had a childhood the first time around, loosing your second one kinda bites. So Anemone's pulled most of the fairy tales and children's books from the shelves, and has piled them around her, reading through them systematically.

Now she's staring at her email, trying to figure out what to tell John about last weekend. Considering she still hasn't told him about the angels? Explaining that she was about six-years-old shouldn't be that hard. Right? Right.

She's chasing those darn jesters through the stacks, since they keep pulling books off the shelves. Ring the bell to get her attention.

The library is now closed, unless you're Mr. Bob or a library aide.

Back at the desk, where she's writing a real letter to Dominic.

A.J. came into the library that afternoon, with a plate, and something on it.

"Hey, Anemone, look, I brought you something."

Yes, it was one of those dessert things that had been falling from the sky out of nowhere.

Yes, he thought he was very clever.

"Hey A.J., come to see if I could reach the counter yet?" she teased, shoving the letter off to the side. "Nice timing, I was starting to get the munchies."

"See, so it works," A.J. said. "I even picked this one up from the stairs outside, so there's probably not even that much dirt on it. Crazy weather we're having, huh?"

Anemone rolled her eyes at him. "I think I still have filling in my hair from when one hit me on the head on my way to work," she said. "I also spent part of the morning chasing strange little men out of the library. What's going on around here?"

"Well," A.J. drew in a breath, "now, I'm no expert or anything, but, I mean, if I take a second, think of where I've been, and consider what day it is, I think there's your answer right there."

"It's a Tuesday, and I'm in the library." Anemone considered for a moment before shaking her head. "I'm missing something, aren't I?"

A.J. tilted his head; it wasn't the first time he'd explained something new to someone, in a way that made him realize his culture was completely whacked out. This whole jester and fruit pudding crap, though, was beyond even him. "April First? Ring any bells?"

"April..." The light went on in Anemone's brain, and she practically lit up. "Oh, it's the fooling holiday, isn't it? I keep getting that one mixed up with the Ides of March."

A.J. grinned; it was cute when she lit up like that. He also nodded. "The fooling holiday, yeah. Please don't ask me to explain it, though, because I have no idea. And the Ides of March or, um...the fifteenth, aren't they? I don't know much about that one, either, but, come on. This place is so messed up, that I'm surprised I even bothered coming out of my room today with all the things that could happen."

"I promise not to prank you," she said, trying to keep a straight face. "I wouldn't even know where to begin."

"I promise not to prank you, too," A.J. said, nodding, "if only because I'd be too terrified of the retribution I'd get for even thinking about it."

"I'd probably just turn your hair a funny color, or fill your room with packing peanuts, or stick a Berthold in your closet." Anemone waved one hand dismissively, smiling sweetly. "I don't have enough time to prepare anything fantastic for you, and you deserve only the best."

A.J.'s eyes went a little wide at the last suggestion. "A Berthold? There are more of them?"

"Well, he had to come from somewhere, didn't he? Maybe he's got a cousin that would like to visit, or a sister. I bet he has a cute little sister." Anemone picked up Gulliver and eyed him speculatively. "Or maybe there's a Gulliver out there, that will hog your blankets and eat all your jam. You never know, with a Gulliver."

Gulliver just burbbled slightly and wiggled to be set down. You always knew, with a Gulliver, he was actually perfectly predictable. Like the fact he's going to go over here now, and steal the tasty treat the Boy brought.

"I'd be worried if I didn't know that there weren't tons more I could go get outside," A.J. commented, eying Gulliver carefully. "And I think I'd rather have a Gulliver than a Berthold. To the best of my memory, Gulliver has never tried to physically harm me for his own sick enjoyment."

"I'm sure it wasn't just for his 'sick' enjoyment, Berthold can be perfectly friendly," Anemone said, clearly amused. "Maybe he just wanted a hug?"

A.J. narrowed his eyes at Anemone. "Well, then," he huffed a little. "He could have just asked instead of dragging me halfway across the room on my ass."

She's reshelving all the books from today. Gulliver is at the desk, for all your circulation needs.
