Adah knew full well that today, she may have to be dealing with the aftermath of whatever had occurred as a result of her missing rabbit disappearing somewhere in the library. What she didn't know, however, was how, although, as she limped in and got herself settled for shift, she hoped that, whatever it was, it didn't distract her from her reading too much.

"Patent Law," Nathan said as he passed around that week's handouts, "may sound boring. However it can be a lucrative field for anyone willing to brave a career more prone to paperwork and government red tape than most branches of law. If you're looking for something noble, consider how many inventors get scammed by companies pretending to have their best interests at heart. If you want something controvertial, how about the idea of putting a patent on life?

"For today's class we're going to start with the basics," Nathan said as he went back to his desk. "Pair up, study who can apply for a patent and try to work together to figure out an invention that can meet the listed criteria. I'm not looking for your ability to invent things - there's a whole other class for that - I'm primarily looking for your ability to understand the requirements. Then, if you want extra credit, figure out whether both of you get to have an equal claim to the invention.

"I'm here if you have questions."

Peter didn't need to go down to the salle for Fencing Club so much as stop training for long enough to realise that Fencing Club was starting and that he needed to put out towels, water, and the practice blades.  Someone was possibly a bit too worried about going home after graduation and being found out of shape.

Once everyone had arrived, he lowered his sword again with a smile.  "Good afternoon, everyone.  I don't have anything in particular for anyone today," Peter said.  "But as all of you know, the key to good swordsmanship is working through drills over and over and over until your muscles know them automatically. So today, either do that or pair up to spar with a partner."

The classroom looked normal enough, helix model, bananas, glassware and cardboard boxes on desks and one more enthusiastic than normal geneticist standing in the front.

"Deoxtribonucleaic acid," said Mohinder brightly. "Our DNA is the building bloc that defines us, who we are. At least that part of us which is physically determined. DNA is organised into genes which make up chromosones that form a genome that describes an individual who is an example of the variation within a population." He took a breath.

"Adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine," the words rolled off his tongue "are the chains that link us with every other living thing. And although the human genome - and that of several other species - have been mapped there are so many opportunities ready to be explored." Mohinder voiceovered spoke for several minutes before bringing himself to a halt with a grin and a, "Sorry, this happens to be my field."

"You may have been wondering about the bananas," Mohinder said. "They're here for you to extract DNA proteins from, not to eat." Hopefully he hadn't need to have said that at the start.

Today the Danger Shop was set up to look rather like the Welsh highlands of Bond's detention several weeks past. A number of somewhat battered looking utilities stood near Bond.

After the class had arrived, Bond began. "While driving has many hazards, these caused by lack of proper attention increase significantly when driving with a passenger." He continued for a while in this vein, explaining some of the risks of driving with passengers and how passengers could minimise them.

"I'd like you to divide into pairs with a passenger and driver," Bond said, after finishing the lecture, gesturing to the utilities. "The driver's job will be to stay on the track and not stop until you reach the end. Meanwhile, passengers will all do their best to ensure the drivers have as few distractions as possible, no matter what."

Sounded simple enough.

Anakin was leaning against the edge of his desk looking a little smug. "You've had a week with your droid babies. I trust you've all slept well?"

He thought he was funny. He was so, so wrong.

"Today I want you to tell us about what you learned this week by being responsible for something a bit more complicated than an egg. " He smiled. "Would this serve as an effective check on raging hormones? Actions always have consequences, be they as major as a baby or as minor as rolling over in the morning and wondering what on Earth you were thinking the night before."
