notanactualfairy: (actually smiling!)

Jean-Paul looked happy today. His happy look was especially distressing when one considered the large stack of papers at each student's desk. "Today is your midterm," he said cheerfully. "You may hand in your completed tax forms and begin. You may collect your graded tax forms at the end of class; use my corrections to file with the IRS before April fifteenth if you are indeed subject to the United States tax code." Then he sat back in his seat behind his nice desk to watch the fun. It would only take him about ten seconds to grade their tax forms, after all.

((There was going to be an actual midterm until I got a whole bunch of stuff due in the next three days dumped on me all at once, so, uh, just assume the midterm is A) practical and B) kind of evil and handwave a grade.))

Evey felt almost out of place as she stood at the front of the classroom, eyes wide and taking in every movement of every classmate.

"Hello," she said quietly, when she was certain everyone who would arrive had done so. "Vala's a bit indisposed at the moment," or, rather, MIA, "so I'll be covering class today. And since she didn't leave a lesson plan, we're going to watch a film." Because Evey was nowhere near ready to try to speak about her personal experience or relate another form of government.

"I haven't seen this one, but it sounds like it relates," she said, popping in the movie. "Sleep if you like. It's your time to waste."

His shoes had moved on their own that morning, and he wasn't so sure anymore if it had been real or just another glitch.

At any rate, Glitch was standing at the front of the class, very obviously shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

"Today, uhm, I hope you brought your designs to class. Or, well, what you have of your designs for your projects because that's what we'll be going over. I mean, I'll be going over with you."

He bit back a repeat of the last four words before he continued.

"So, if you'd all get what you have out, I'll go around--," he said with a shift and a shuffle as one of his feet almost darted out from underneath him, "I'll go around and check your progress."

There was a pause as he looked down at his notes to make sure he was finished. "Oh, and, don't forget that next week we'll be doing repairs. So, if you or someone you know has something broken, then, bring it in--," he ended abruptly with another shake as his other foot made a decent pass at kicking itself against the desk.

Glitch frowned down at his shoes before smiling nervously at the class. Today was going to be a long day.

Vacation killed aaaaany sort of plans for a class in Deadpool today.

Something about fruity drinks, beaches, bikinis on adult type womenfolk because that would be way to creepy and he wasn't a pedo omg...

Anyway. Today, Deadpool popped in a DVD of The Ender.

"I hope you all enjoy an adorable lil' southern woman kick people's asses by just being adorable and southern!"

Ghani was in her usual spot on her desk as they arrived.  "Welcome back, class.  I trust you all had a productive and relaxing break.  Unfortunately, it's over, and you're stuck with me this morning."

“Today, we are putting on the Abydos version.”  Ghanima looked around the class sternly. “There will be no actual dying, do I make myself clear?”

“Our actors for the day are…”  Ghani held up her candy dish, folded paper tags clearly visible inside as she began drawing out names.  “Hrm… for the staring role of Osiris, Valentine.  For the devoted wife, Isis, Teddy Altman.”  No, she wasn’t even attempting to hide her amusement at that.  Lucky Teddy.  “Last, but not least, as everyone’s favorite upstart, Set, Michael Guerin.  Gentlemen, if you’d be so kind as to come up to my desk in a moment?”

"We may not have the actual script, so you’ll get to make parts of it up, but we are lucky enough to have something possibly even more important.”  Ghanima drew one more name out of her bowl.  “Naminé, would you be kind enough to come forward and take the Stage Manager's prompt book and diary?  It will be your job to keep the actors on-task, and make sure the play reaches its proper end."

“Actors, there is a box over here with your costumes which can be modded to be maskless, slightly too small/big/etc.  Students, please read over the handouts, and familiarize yourself with the story.  The show will begin momentarily.”

[Please wait for my massive OCD is up!  Standard disclaimers apply, see store for details.  No students were harmed too badly during the making of this production.]

As much as Sam had enjoyed being in Mexico - he'd enjoyed most of the trip, at least - it felt good to be back in the library. Of course, it would have felt better if he'd been able to get his shoes on in the morning, but he wasn't about to try to argue with his sneakers before he'd had any coffee.

Biff walked into the Danger Room and sang out, "Midterrrrrrrrrrrrm!"

Then blinked.

Because he had actually sung out that word. Weird.

"Today we are having a midterm," he continued as the music swelled around him in a distinctly West-Side Story kind of way.
"and suddenly you'll see
how miserable a man I be...

He frowned, but grammar must give way for the lyrics.

Midterm, say it once and it sooooooooounds like dying
Say it soft and you'll feel like crying.
Midterm: you'll never stop failing this midtermmmmmmmmmmm.

He shrugged. Fortunately, he'd printed out instructions for the actual test.

"Good morning, everyone," said Mike as he walked into the computer lab. "Congratulations on surviving the first half of the semester, and more importantly, surviving spring break. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and we have to get back to education. So, today we're going to start talking about the Internet."

Mike launched into a very technical explanation of the history of the Internet, starting with ARPANET and continuing to the World Wide Web. Predictably, it was a little dry and went a little overboard on detail, but Mike was getting better at knowing when to stop. "So that's all the technical details, for those of you who really need to know that stuff. For the rest of us, there are only a few things you need to get started. And relax, we're not going to cover the entire Internet in one day," he reassured them with a chuckle.

"Basically, you can create a network with just two computers and some cables. The Internet is essentially one big network connecting your computer to a lot of other computers out there. What does that mean for us? That means that right from the computer you're sitting at right now, you can look up the current weather conditions in Moscow, find the date and starting time of the next UNLV men's basketball game, or a comedy club in the D.C. area if you're planning an outing with friends," said Mike. "The best way to do that is to find a web portal like Yahoo or Google and use their search engine. And that sounds like a good place to stop for today. Next week, we'll get to explore more of the Internet."
