"Good afternoon, my minions," Vala greeted everyone cheerfully from her customary spot atop the desk. "I'm glad to see you all back after last week's adventures. Last week, you escaped with your treasure, or without your treasure, depending on how things went. However, that doesn't always happen."

She leaned forward and confided, "Sometimes, you get caught. And occasionally even incarcerated, or held by the planetary authorities. This is when the real fun starts, because you have to be able to get yourself out of this situation--the problem is that often, you're locked in a small cell with no one but yourself and a guard for company."

"Then, the moment of truth...er, well, the person in charge shows up. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in that cell--which, trust me, you don't, they smell unbelievably strange, get very little daylight, and often have vermin--you need to be able to tell a convincing story, whether true or," she cleared her throat and looked extra-innocent, "augmented, that will get you out of there."

"Sooooo," Vala grinned at them and leaned back on her hands, "Today, I want you to talk your way out of trouble. Either pick a partner or try to convince me. Anything that gets the other person to believe you and let you out of your 'cell'," she made finger quotes and everything, "is good enough for me. Go to it, and remember to do your best!"

GOB walked up to the now common sight of the dry erase board covered with a sheet. He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and sweater combination to project an aura of responsibility. That may have been a mistake during the middle of summer.

"Well, children," he said, trying to exude the air of a children's show host, albeit one who the state had to warn the people in the neighborhood about due to Megan's Law, "I just wanted to remind you what we're all doing here. I'm here to teach you how to be responsible if you give into your hormones and try to screw each other like animals. I'm not trying to promote it, I'm just trying to teach you how to do it safely and intelligently. After all, the only thing I really want is to make sure that you all grow up to be responsible adults."

"That's why today we'll be discussing safe sex. Specifically..." GOB pulled the sheet off the board, revealing the lesson name, Ways to Avoid Concussions During Sex )

When the students file into the Danger Shop, they'll see it's been set up a bit differently today. The table with the sign in sheet and coffee are still in the same place but the range itself was different. Instead of paper targets there was a wide open space that looked like a graveyard at night.

"Good morning," John said. "Now that you've had a chance to try the more common types of guns, we're going to up the ante a little. Being able to shoot and hit a stationary target is one thing, but it's not a situation you're likely to face much outside of target practice. In the real world, if you ever need to use a gun, chances are it's going to be against something moving.

"Which brings us to today's assignment. Instead of shooting targets today, we're going to be playing shoot the zombie. Choose any gun and ammo you want -- for this assignment any will work on the zombies -- step up to the line and see how many zombies in the graveyard you can hit." He grinned wolfishly at them. "Who's going first?"

Hats, belts, tools, eyewear, gloves. Slightly smaller pile of bricks given all the work that went on last week. This time, though, Xander's giving handwavy training on actually laying those bricks -- so not dirty -- instead of just moving them around.

Before first period, Drax turned on the PA.

"Good morning, students. We have a few announcements."

"Remember, today you will be moving back to the dorms for the time being. Take all of your possessions back. Anything that is left in the cabins is subject to disposal." That was just a threat in the name of tidiness. There probably wasn't any need to worry about your stuff.

"Peter Pevensie, report to the dean's office at your earliest convenience." That meant 'soon or you are in trouble.'

"And finally, as you're moving back to your dorm rooms, don't be surprised if you have trouble with your door knobs. We've received reports that the door knobs have felt neglected over the past several weeks and may refuse to turn for you unless you comfort them and tell them taht they are appreciated."

"Seriously?" Drax asked an office worker before turning off the microphone. "How do we even find out about doorknob psychology?" Drax sighed. "'Somebody asked them.' Don't get smart with me, I will destroy you."

Drax finally noticed that he was still on the air. "Have a good day."

Applications are now open! Spread the word!

Things you all need to know:

* You have to be at least 18 years of age to apply.
* All players can have a maximum of four characters total (excluding alumni).
* We will only accept one student and one teacher per player in this application round (you can send in as many applications as you like, but only one out of the lot will be picked)
* Students are required to sign up for 2 summer workshops and at least sign into those workshops every week
* Teachers are required to teach at least 1 workshop a week (for the entire term - that's 7-8 weeks), keep an eye on your students and give the players a prompt to play off in class every week.
* All accepted characters go on probation for the term. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is being a major problem, we'll talk to them about it and possibly remove them. But it's hard to get to the removal stage.
* Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

What's needed to apply:
* Make sure that the character you want to apply with isn't already here
* Fill out the respective application form (linked below!).
* Be prepared to create a journal for your character that does not and will not contain entries from other games.
* Read the Fandom High handbook. It contains all the rules/guidelines you'll need.
* Time commitment. This game is a LOT of fun, but things do happen quickly and it does require checking in a couple of times a week and throwing your character into threads wherever you find one you want.
* Language skills. Seriously, if you cannot write in complete sentences and use basic spelling and grammar people are going to want to throttle you. That being said, we don't expect perfection. This game is based on interaction and you're going to want people to be able to understand you or they won't want to interact with you.

What happens once you've applied:
Once your application has been received, we will send you an email to confirm that we got it. Applications will then be held until the application period is closed. We will sort through them and let you know whether your character has been accepted or not. Please note: if we get two or more applications for the one character, we will ask every person who applied for that character to send in a back-up in case they don't get their first pick, so have a second choice on hand!

Accepted players will be asked to create the journal for their character and to accept invitations to the game communities. New characters are allowed to start playing on a specified date during the mid-semester break. There will be a big welcome post for you all.

Notes for current players:
* If you are planning on dropping a character, please let the admins know ASAP.
* Although the prospect of apping a new character is shiny and delightful, please take into consideration whether you will be able to keep up with all of your characters. If characters are neglected, it could hamper your chances of getting new characters in the future.

The form can be finnicky, so please follow the instructions carefully and make sure to follow through on the Bravenet confirm page. If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us. Please don't wait until after applications are closed. We can't do anything about it then.

Applications close Sunday, June 17, 2007 at 11:59pm (GMT+12). Email administration@fandomhigh.net with any questions and we'll try to respond promptly.

The next application session for students and teachers will be form Fall Semester in late August.

The desk in the front of the room held five dolls and a cd player playing pop music. Abby stood nearby with large headphones over her ears and an even larger propane torch in her hands.

"This is regular pop music." Abby said loudly, pointing at the dolls who were bobbing their heads happily. "Horrible, isn't it? Being a goth isn't all black clothes and mascara. It's about the music, the books, the attitude. And sometimes it's about setting annoying things on fire."

Abby turned the knob on the torch and flambed the plastic dolls. "Now that we've said 'bye, bye, bye' to that travesty, it's time to work on our new volunteer. Remember you're not just dressing Anders in new clothes; you're teaching him how to act like a goth."
