Firearms and You #4 (Monday, period one)

When the students file into the Danger Shop, they'll see it's been set up a bit differently today. The table with the sign in sheet and coffee are still in the same place but the range itself was different. Instead of paper targets there was a wide open space that looked like a graveyard at night.

"Good morning," John said. "Now that you've had a chance to try the more common types of guns, we're going to up the ante a little. Being able to shoot and hit a stationary target is one thing, but it's not a situation you're likely to face much outside of target practice. In the real world, if you ever need to use a gun, chances are it's going to be against something moving.

"Which brings us to today's assignment. Instead of shooting targets today, we're going to be playing shoot the zombie. Choose any gun and ammo you want -- for this assignment any will work on the zombies -- step up to the line and see how many zombies in the graveyard you can hit." He grinned wolfishly at them. "Who's going first?"

Turtle was going to keep it simple today with simple ammo and a gun most closely resembling her own, because she still needed to work on the whole shooting thing before she got too fancy. Crawl before you can walk, walk before you could run.

Thankfully, zombies weren't typically good at any of those things, right? So Turtle wasn't doing too badly. Not too well, but not too badly, either.

Jo picked up a rifle and warily entered the range.

Luke asked for a blaster like he was used to and learned if zombies were faster than Stormtroopers.

His conclusion: no, not really.

Therefore, he was really, really good at picking them off. It came from having a bit of practice at it.

Dawn picked up a shotgun, since that gave her less trouble and aiming didn't matter so much with zombies anyway, as long as you hit them. For her shot, she selected silver rounds, though if she was going to make her own for a real hunt, she'd have packed them with graveyard dirt and holy water.

Once her ear protection and goggles were on, she fired and was almost blown back by the recoil again, but most of the zombies died. She was still pretty awkward on the reload, though.

Lana took the Sig that she'd used previously. There was no way she was trying the shotgun again at this point. She did fairly well - better than she'd expected.

Billy decided to go with his standard issue for this. It was what he was most used to.

"You need to hit them in the head right?"

Peter picked up a shotgun and some shells and took his shots. He still wished he had a bow and arrow, but he was getting more comfortable.

Chris picked the handgun he was most comfortable with and stepped up to kill some zombies.

He probably got about 70%, which wasn't bad, but he knew he needed improvement.

John grabbed one of the handguns he'd used previously. It was more difficult to accurately hit a moving target, but he managed to at least wound most of the zombies.

Eve contemplated this for entirely too long before selecting a handgun and her ammo. She popped the clip in, stepped up to the line when it was her turn, and took aim.

And by "took aim" we mean "shot at the first holographic zombie she saw because it managed to take her by surprise". Stupid zombies, not supposed to do that!

Wyatt picked up a shotgun. Hey, this was pretty fun.

Turtle's watching everyone else carefully, in an effort to maybe sort of pick something up about...technique, or something, from the more experienced students.

Tannim smiled at her. "I like your hair," he said.

Distracted by all the guns, shooting, and wtf zombies, Turtle had actually, somehow, managed to sort of forget about the hair for a second. Until that moment, and she jumped a little, with a small intake of breath, hands immediately on her neck as if to hold the hair down and hide it. Then the blush started in and she nervously looked over at Tannim. "R..really?"

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] sonofdragons.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it looks kinda... sophisticated," Tannim said. "Why'd you decide to cut it?"

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the second 'sophisticated' she'd gotten. Biting her lip against a grin, Turtle lowered her hands from her neck. She shrugged, giving her head a slight shake so that it would settle after being held down. That, and she still loved how it swished when she did that. "Well, y'know...thought maybe it was time for something new."

She paused, looking at him with a slight bit of wariness. "You really like it? You're not just saying that to be nice or so I don't kick you or anything?"

Not that she would kick Tannim anymore, unless he really was being a huge jerkface.

Tannim grinned. "Nah, you don't scare me. I have shin guards."

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That got a laugh out of Turtle. "Very true! High quality ones, too, if I'm not mistaken." She bounced a little; she couldn't help it! Tannim didn't think the hair looked totally and completely stupid! She bit her lip again. "Awesome."

"Hey Turtle." Billy waved. "How's the investments?"

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, Billy." Turtle waved back. "Not too bad. It's a seller's market at the moment, which is pretty exciting."

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] l1ttle-billy.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Billy didn't quite know what that meant. "Excellent, good to hear. Uh, when did you cut your hair?"

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Went to the hairdresser Saturday," Turtle answered with a nod, because that avoided the fact that she didn't cut it...

"It's nice." he nodded. He'd kinda liked the ponytail, but he didn't want to criticize. "Just felt like a change?"

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Turtle shrugged idly. "Yeah, well, y'know..."

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

"Might be more comfortable in the summer." he suggested.

Re: Talk amongst yourselves

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Turtle nodded. "Gets a lot warmer here in the summer than it does in Wisconsin, I'll bet."

"Probably yeah. These days it can get up to 100."
