Logan had coffee going and was sipping a cup of it as he waited for everyone to file in and take a handout. On each desk was a book filled with full color, retro-style posters.

"So," he began. "Today we're looking at a powerful tool - not only of governments and the military, though their use tends to be the most well-known, but in advertising and even everyday personal interactions.

"Propaganda. It's a hefty word, right? And probably makes you think of the absurd rumors that are tossed around in political campaigns, insinuations and blatant lies that some institutions slap on brightly colored posters to get you to toe the line or follow their particular brand of bullcrap."

He smiled somewhat wryly. "And what I just said is even an example; obviously it was biased information, given my phrasing, and the beginning of an attempt to coerce you to believe what I meant if I'd continued any longer.

"The best use for propaganda is to instill carefully structured information in a specific subset of people. Sometimes its use is positive, but quite often it's applied with fear and hate." Logan turned on the monitor, flashing by images indicating the former and the latter.

Logan flipped to a new frame on the monitor displaying:

1. Who does this benefit?
2. Who is the audience?
3. What is the intended result?

"So what I'd like you to do is choose a poster from the book on your desk -- or describe one you've seen personally, if you'd like - and identify the three points in relation to that piece of propaganda."

Yomiko opened up the library right on time and settled in behind the desk with a large cup of coffee. She did wonder why she preferred coffee so much more since she'd moved to Fandom. She'd always been a tea drinker before...

The mats were back down on the floor in gym class, with Yondaime sitting at the front by a chalkboard with the words Capoeria written on it and a television. Yondaime grinned at everyone as they came in and handed out packets as they came in.

"Good Morning everyone, I hope that you all had a good break. This morning we’re going to start our section on a martial art from Brazil called Capoeria. Now this is truly more of an art than a fighting style, involving music, passion, more discipline and control than I’ve seen in any other fighting style."

As the students arrived today, they will notice there's something a little different about the classroom. There's a slight haze and a heavy (hopefully not unpleasant) sent in the air.

Scattered about the room are a variety of different incense burnders, some of which are actively giving off the aforementioned haze and smell.

Anybody or anything that spends any amount of time in the room today? Will probably smell like incense for a while unless extreme measures are taken.

"Smoke and sent have been used since time in memorial for spiritual purposes. Cleansing, carrying prayers up to heaven or into the spirit plane, or even to repel evil. Incense made from materials such as citronella can repel mosquitoes and other aggravating, distracting or pestilential insects. This use has been deployed in concert with religious uses by Zen Buddhists who claim that the incense that is part of their meditative practice is designed to keep bothersome insects from distracting the practitioner." Byron explained producing a large platter with an assortment of incenses on it. "Stick incense, coil incense, cone incense, loose powder, smudge sticks, frankincense and murr to name a few.

And don't even get me started on scented candles.

Incense composition requires one to be rather precise in the case of direct burning incense since it must be carefully proportioned and blended such that it has ability to slowly and evenly burn itself in its entirety.

While indirect burning incense consists mainly of fragrant materials and need not adhere to any specific proportion, recipes and mixes for all direct burning incense must include and balance two things: fragrant materials and a combustible base."

Instructions and materials for making incense are passed out. A table off to the side provides a dizzying (if you're not already dizzy from the smell) number of ingredients. (Including agarwood.)

"You may follow that recipe to the letter or use it simply as a guide. In order obtain the desired combustion qualities, attention has to be paid to certain proportions in direct burning incense mixtures:

Firstly, oil content: Resinous materials such as Myrrh and Frankincense must not exceed the amount of dry materials in the mixture to such a degree that the incense will not smolder and burn. The higher the oil content relative to the dry mass, the less likely the mixture is to burn effectively.

Secondly, oxidizer quantity: The amount of chemical oxidizer in gum bound incense must be carefully proportioned. Too little, and the incense will not ignite, too much, and the incense will burn too quickly and not produce fragrant smoke.

Thirdly, mixture density: Incense mixture made with natural binders must not be combined with too much water in mixing, or over-compressed while being formed. This either results in uneven air distribution or undesirable density in the mixture, which causes the incense to burn unevenly, too slowly, or too quickly.

The manner with which you burn or heat your incense is entirely up to you. Something more ceremonial, special made and consecrated for a purpose can heighten a spiritual or arcane effect... Covered verses uncovered is also entirely up to you. Though I believe that covered is rather better for safety reasons. But honestly, all that matters is that the smoke can escape and air be given access so that the incense may continue to burn and not be smothered by its own smoke.

The spirits don't care if you burn you incense in a vessel that's shaped like an alien smoking a hookah if such a thing suits your nature...

Anyway.

Your task for today, if you have not already surmised is to make your own incense. Have at it."

Wilson sat behind his desk carefully sorting through the sheets he’d made up to critique the students on their mid-term assignment. He had been extremely pleased with the whole class and today there were muffins and other snack items, as well as tea, coffee and cocoa laid out for anyone who wished for a quick bite as they signed in.

When everyone was settled, Wilson stood up and smiled.

“Good morning. I hope everybody enjoyed their break; I can assure you that mine was quite…enlightening. Okay a few house cleaning items I need to go over and we’ll get started on today’s lecture.”

As he spoke, he walked through the rows of seats, handing back the critiques.

“First of all, I’d like to compliment all of you on the work you did for your mid-terms. These were excellent and I think you’ll find that your grades reflect this. If you have any question about your grade, see me after class.” [ooc: Feel free to mod your grade, everybody rocked last class, thank you all for that!!]

Once he had everything handed out, he went back to the front of the class, gave the kids a moment to flip through their grades and then called for their attention once more.

“So, in two weeks we’ll be taking a field trip up to New York to observe some of the practices of the U.N. We’ll be leaving on Friday the 16th after classes and returning Sunday evening, sometime before midnight. I will have an itinerary and room assignments ready for you in next week’s class but if you know for some reason that you will not be able to travel with us, please let me know this week. After class, voicemail or during my office hours, whatever suits. The same if you just have general questions or concerns.”

Looking across the group, Wilson nodded and pushed away from the desk.

Class Time! )

The class had a disco ball. A disco ball right at the center of the room. "This isn't going to be much of a class -- I'll just explain this type of music and then let you have a go at dancing. Because that's what music is about, isn't it? Experiencing it?

So, techno-- it's a genre of electronic music gained some popularity during thelate 1980s as all of you can possibly tell the term 'techno' comes fromthe word technology, the electronic dance genre has four other distinctmusic styles -- House (this one has controversial roots, supposedly used in underground clubsknown as the Warehouse, for gay men back when such a thing was controversial) combines synthpop, new wave, industrial, punk recordings nd disco; Trance was developed in the early 1990s, one of the more popular club music,so called for it's and I quote 'repetitious morphing beats, and thethrobbing melodies' and if repeated over and over can turn any of us into jolly dancing zombies."

She turned the volume down, "Here's you're assignment for this class, I want you all to write a paper onmusic, which musical genre developed this past 50 years you like andwhich do you think has had the most impact in this generation."

Rose clapped her hands, "Right, enough technobabble, this is dance musicwhich can be heard at any club worth its salt in this generation," she dimmed the lights and turned up the volume, "Like the saying goes, experience is the best teachers, so class -- let's dance!"

Once the class has settled in, Captain Liberty gives them all a smile and says, "Welcome back. Hope you all had a good break, because it's over now and you're not getting it back. Haha. Lucky for you guys we have a pretty easy class today." Though it's said in a way that might make the students question that statement.

"I've said before that a good portion of superheroing is trying to come off in a good light. You might think you're just doing your job, or doing the right thing, but there's more to it than that," she continues. "The things you do can be really public, and will attract attention. Reporters will write about your actions, kids might want to dress up as you for Halloween, and let's not even think of people trying to spin things weird during an election year." Pausing, remembering her background, she says, "Pretend I didn't say that. The fact of the matter is, a lot of people don't want to be saved by someone they think is a jerk.

"Now, for today's class, we're going to have you be interviewed by a real reporter. Your job is to put your best foot forward. It's just that easy," Captain Liberty smiles. "Now, I'd like you all to welcome someone a few of you might know, Rita Skeeter."

Once class is getting up to leave, Captain Liberty calls, and for homework, I just want you all to give me a paragraph or two on how your interview went, and how you'd handle it next time. Bye."

Bridge is sitting cross-legged on Aly's desk as his fellow classmates enter the room. There's also a small table set up at the front of the room with many different kinds of pie.

"Hey, guys. No, before you ask, I didn't overthrow the teacher," he says, glancing over at Jamie. "She just asked me to lead class today, since she can't be here."

"Aaaaaanyway, our discussion topic today actually *does* have to do with Jamie's revolution a few weeks ago," Bridge continues. "Specifically, I want you guys to come up with three ways you'd improve on it. Jamie, you can... uh, come up with three things you'd do differently next time. You can work on your own or in groups if you'd like, it's up to you." He waves at the table of pie. "Once you've presented your suggestions, you can have some pie," he grins. "So... have fun!"

Deadpool really hoped the kids would remember that they were driving today and not in the classroom. The week off killed his sense of time. Day was night, night was day! Miller time was Budweiser time! CHAOS! Utter chaos!

When those who didn't live in complete chaos arrived, they would notice that it was raining. A lot. There was a bundle of umbrellas by the door for students to take.

"Morning kiddos! Today we're learning about driving in bad weather conditions. I couldn't quite get the program for raining fire for the apocalypse, so we're sadly stuck with just normal boring rain. I apologize for the dullness," He told the sadly. "I could try throwing things at you guys to keep the excitement level up if you wanted."

The Computer Science classroom had a note on the door directing students to the Journalism classroom today. As everyone filed in, they could see it was a fairly normal classroom except for the large screen that dominated the wall at the front of the room. A desk sat before that and Logan was leaning against it, waiting until everyone had taken a seat (each desk furnished with its own laptop) before speaking.

"Hi, guys," he began, smiling at the students. "I'm Logan Cale. I'm the Media Studies teacher and, since Professor Flynn has taken unexpected leave of us, I'm now the Computer Science teacher as well.

"I reviewed what information I could find about the previous semester, but unfortunately I wasn't left with a lesson plan," Logan said apologetically. "So it looks like we really are starting from scratch. Welcome to the new semester and a new start!"

He smiled and stood up to hand a random student a clipboard with a piece of paper. "If you guys wouldn't mind, let's start by signing in, then we'll do some introductions. I'd like to know what experience levels you guys are at, or what you might be interested in learning specifically."

Moving back to the front of the class as the board was passed around, Logan spread his hands. "As for me, I have my degree in Journalism, but I've always had an interest in computers. I'm from a few years in the future in relation to Fandom, but things haven't really progressed too much beyond what's considered normal at this time. My particular forte at home is cyberjournalism - spreading information through electronic means," he explained. "I've been building computers and programming for about ten years now, so while I don't have a degree in the subject, I have a lot of practical experience.

"For this class, we'll be learning about computers, their applications and uses in the world at large and how they affect people personally, and how computers function - how detailed we get will depend on you guys and what makes sense for you to be learning given your current understanding of computers."

When the board returned to the front of the room, he collected it and went to sit on his desk once more. "So who wants to start us off? Tell me your name, where and when you're from, and tell me what, if any, experience you have with computers. After that, we can move on to something else."

[OOC: OCD to follow shortly is up! If you guys could at the least do your introductions, that would be awesome - I and Logan would really like to do some classes that actually do something for y'all. Thanks!]

Today, it wasn't Emma Frost standing at the front of the room - it was a different, much more clothed and tired-looking blonde.

"Um, hi," she said with a nervous little wave. "My name's Hannelore Ellicott-Chatham. You can just call me Hannelore. Ms. Frost isn't feeling too swift, so she handwavey asked me to sub for her. Um. I've never done this before, so here's hoping I don't suck too badly."

"So, um," she continued, "she just left us a couple notes. We're going over cleaning and tidying and vacuuming and...." Hannelore gave a happy little sigh. "Okay, this is something I'm really good at. We're going to clean the classroom. There are vacuum cleaners, and just a few cleaning products in the back."

Hannelore pointed, where there was a plethora of vacuums, mops, Swiffers, sponges, and a seemingly-endless supply of cleaning fluids. Best not to ask how many of those came from Hannelore's apartment.

"All right, I brought you guys some stuff," she said, pulling out a huge box of HazMat suits and gasmasks. "I didn't bring all my supplies, but I don't want you guys to get sick!"

Not that they'd actually become ill cleaning the classroom.

"You can pick what you want to do. Oh, and this is Winslow," Hannelore said, pointing to an oversized iPod sitting on the desk. Winslow waved. "He's here to help me."

Hannelore kind of waved at the group. "Okay. Go. I'll be around and stuff if you need me." She then dug a set of suction cups out of her bag, strapped a belt equipped with several cleaning products around her waist, and climbed onto a table. Then with a little hop, she was on the ceiling, where she began to scrub.
