A very happy Deadpool greeted his students as the entered the classroom. He was happy in a way that would make his roommate start digging through his closet to make sure no more slices of lunch meat was hidden back there.

"I hope everyone had a fun weekend," He said innocently. "And I really hope you all took time out of running around town hitting on everything that moved to read over those handouts from last week 'cause guess what kids!"

He paused, as if to wait for any guesses.

"Test time!"

"And remember that next week we're meeting in the Danger Room. Shop. Whatever they call it here. We're meeting there for actual driving. Please refrain from crashing the car. Sure, it doesn't really exist, but I'd rather you didn't crash anything nonetheless." A pause. "Unless there's a clown in the road, then you floor it and kill that monster."

Check to see what car you're in )

"Good afternoon," said Daniel, smiling as he sipped from his coffee. "Today, we're going to look at some of the inventions that came out of the first quarter of the century.

There's a timeline of them here, so I'd like you each to pick a couple and explain why you chose it and how you think it better improved life. For example, I like 1909 -- instant coffee. As much as I'd rather have the "real" stuff, sometimes it's impractical to take all the necessary equipment with you and any coffee's better than none, right?"

Aly was totally not pouting at the stack of freshly baked pie on her desk.  It was frowning, really.  And not because she was anti-pie in any way, but because those lovely pies had been the notes and materials for her lesson today just minutes ago.

She looked up from her scowling as the class found their seats.  "So.  We have pie today instead of class notes.  Which really.  I'm perfectly okay with."  She glanced at one of the TAs.  "Want to go grab some forks and plates so we can at least enjoy it?"

Aly grinned mischievously back at the class.  "Makers of mischief and revolution?  Feel free to decide on what exactly you're rebelling against.  Stalwart supporters of Her Majesty's government?  Obviously you don't want the reactionaries to succeed.  Both of your groups need to focus on gaining the support of the people and possibly finding supporters in your opposing camp."

"If you have any questions, ask them now or during class.  We'll add some more factors into play next week."

[OOC: Go ahead and invent why you're rebelling, why the government should stand, fun flying horses, anything you like.  Unaffiliated peoples?  If a group convinces you to join them, go ahead and tag into their camp and start working on your friends.  Feel free to try to convince people in anyway other than actual violence or threats, thank you very much.  Aly may be poking her head into discussions, the camps, etc.  Feel free to ignore her or try to convince her join up.  OCD is coming up]

Today Emma is in diamond shape. She has listened to the radio and has no wish to be overwhelmed by traumatized minds, thank you very much.

The desks are covered with yarn in a variety of colours and styles, knitting needles and papers with instructions written down on.

"Today we begin Operation: Knit a Scarf," Emma announced. "At the end of this class, you can either choose to take your knitting with you, or leave it in your box. Either way I want to see a scarf in a fortnight. One you can comfortably tie around your neck."

ooc: wait for the ocd is up. Knitting time!

Sam came to open the library, in probably the best mood he'd been in in a long time.

His mood was so good, in fact, that he wasn't even particularly bothered by finding that half of the items on the main desk had turned into pies.

Students entered the Danger Shop to find a similar set up as last week, except this time, there were several different ships. An astute student might recognize the new additions as other ships from Nelson’s fleet, as well as those associated with the opposing French and Spanish fleet. Honor stood at the end of the dock, waiting for them. An antique chair was next to her with a collapsed telescope on the seat cushion.

'Good afternoon, all...' )

"Last week, some of you learned how to think outside the box, as it were." He glanced around the room.

"Only one pair actually figured out and correctly identified what was in the box."

"This week, we're going to focus on abstract thinking."

Flynn pulled up a screen, showing various bits and bobs of software running various tasks.

"Computers use software to think and calculate, much like we do."

"So your assignment for the week is to design a program that does something.
What that something is, is up to you."

He waited for the sighs to come, as he knew this would be misunderstood.

"Now, you don't have to program it. Programming and designing are two different things."
He stood up. "I want you to design a program to do whatever you want."
"Then, break it down into sections, showing how each bit of the program would actually do it."

"For example. I want to create a program that calculates taxes. So I'd need a page that has boxes to fill information in,
then a part to run the calculations that are needed from each box, and so on..."

"Break down each individual part of the software, design the interface, and tell me what each bit does."

"It does sound complicated, but you'd be surprised how easy it can be."

And with that, he sat down at his desk, and stared into his monitor.

Hades was up bright and early. Or maybe he hadn't slept. Who knows with gods?

"Students and teachers and gremlins...and teal deer and weetiny, no really, weetiny is a real word? You know, I'm not reading the rest of that list. Because. CREATURES of Fandom, listen up. Today is National Pie Day. How do I know this? Because objects all around the island have been turning into pie since late last night.

My TV remote? Now pie. Apple, if you're wondering.

At least my chair..." There was a sudden squelching noise, then a thud. "Sigh. My chair is now rhubarb pie. Go about your daily business. Bah."

Abby welcomed students into the danger shop with the box of lab coats as usual. "Afternoon, guys! We've got a lot to do before we head to the crime scene so lets get cracking."

Walking over to a chart, Abby explained the human ABO blood type system and how to test blood to determine it's type. "Each lab station is going to be set up with this testing equipment." She held up test strips, droppers and the antigens for blood testing. "It's easy. Drop the blood on the strips, add the antigens and see if they react. If the blood reacts to the A antigen it's A blood, if it reacts to A and B antigen it's AB blood, etc. Then do a RH test and to see whether the blood is positive or negative."

Abby walked over to a large block of gray clay that had several knifes sticking out of it at all angles. Grabbing a large knife, she drew it out and then plunged it back into the clay quickly. "This is forensics clay. You're going to stab it today to see what sort of wound different objects make. Match the wound in the clay to the wound in the victim and you've found your murder weapon."

"Now, let's get to the fun stuff!" Abby moved to open a door onto the crime scene, an upscale study that held, among other things, a deceased Molly Hayes, laying across a couch. "Police found Molly during a party at a very ritzy house and detained the other guests. They need you to figure out how she died, what was used to kill her and who did it."

"Also..." Abby looked around the room for Broots. "Just to make things clear, the dead people aren't really dead. The blood isn't real and the bad guys are figments of the danger shop's imagination."

"Now, get to work!"

Chuck entered the class a couple minutes after the bell rang, pulling along a TV cart. In no way was he late because he had just stolen this TV from the Creative Writing teacher. Why would you accuse him of such a thing? Chuck spoke to the students as he set things up.

“I’m sure that everyone here is aware that last weekend was a little odd. A lot of stuff happened, and many people were acting strangely. However, I didn’t see this as any reason to slack off. Far from it, I had an unusual amount of drive. So, I got into contact with some important people, and I have a bit of a treat for you today. It was actually filmed here at Fandom over the weekend, and I was fortunate enough to help out. It’s an advance copy of tonight’s episode of The Colbert Report. Scrabble, get the lights.”

Once the lights were off, Mr. Noblet hit play on the DVD, and the video started.

The Colbert Report )

Chuck switched off the video. “Okay, we have time for a short discussion before the bell rings. Questions?”

[ooc: Stephen’s interview preplayed, with much thanks! (Who is it? Of course I’m not going to give away the surprise! It’s far too good to spoil…)]

When the students entered, they saw John sitting at his desk and two tables set out at the front of the room. One holds the sign in sheet and a pile of handouts. The other holds a number of curious items.

John waited until all his students had filed in and taken their seats. )

Wednesday, January 24, Period 1

As the students entered the Danger Shop, they found themselves walking into what looked like a briefing room, with one glass wall looking out into some sort of engineering testing area. M was seated at the head of the table, and once everyone had arrived she turned on a projection screen.

Cut for the post of DOOM )

ASSIGNMENT FOR NEXT WEEK: Write a brief essay exploring the difficulties inherent in designing underwater espionage technology.
