All around the room today were street signs that looked very realistic. So realistic, in fact, one might think that the teacher went out the night before and ran around stealing them from all over Fandom.

Which was just silly.

He stole them from the mainland.

When the students came into the classroom, Aly was writing a list of criteria on the whiteboard at the front of the class.  She finished up the last point, flipped it around, and turned around to watch everyone find seats.

"Good afternoon, all," she said with a bit of a grin as she seated herself on the top of her desk.  "Last week we talked about the reasons why you personally would rebel against a government.  What I'd like you to do today is to get together in small groups - two or three - and agree within the group and why you - as a group - would rebel against something.  You can determine what you're rebelling against.  Revolutions aren't put together by one person.  It's always a group effort.  So today, let's start that."  She glanced at the avowed monarchists in the class.  "And you have to decide on some criteria.  Saying it is never appropriate won't fly today."

After Aly had finished going through the list, she glanced over the class again.  "After you come up with a group reason, someone from the group should present these reasons to me and the class."  She grinned.  "I'll ask questions.  For next week, I'd like everyone to write me a quick three page paper on a revolution of some sort.  It can be from this world or your own.  Just look at the reasons behind the revolution and then make your own judgement on whether or not it was legitimate and if you'd've supported it."  She hopped back up on her desk, playing with her necklace.  "If you don't have any questions, go to."

[OOC: Wait for the OCD is up!  Paper is handwavy, of course, but if you could have some idea of what was written about, that would be excellent.  *plots*]

Sam rushed to the library, running so late that he almost hadn't had time to make coffee. Almost.

Flynn sat at his desk again, feet up, waiting for everyone to shuffle through and check in.

On the table near the front sat a small collection of shoeboxes, taped shut.

Once he was satisfied that everyone was present, he began class.

The students entered the Dangershop, this time finding themselves aboard a vintage ship of the line, circa 1805. Admiral Harrington stood on the deck, clad in her Manticoran uniform. A square table stood in the center of the deck, painted blue with brownish masses around the edges. If one looked closely, it might resemble the Atlantic Ocean, off the Spanish coast. Small, hand-carved models with tiny sails dotted the blue expanse, clearly in fleet formation. A smaller table, with the sign in sheet and syllabus waiting was just to the right of the entrance; a paper-sized gap remained, perfect spot for the students to turn in their homework. Strangely, Nimitz was nowhere to be seen...unless one looked up into the masts.

“Good afternoon, all,” Honor said, giving a taut smile, “and welcome to the age of sail. Gather around the table, please, and we’ll get started.”

Run before you walk, or is it...? )
Reaching under the table with the tactical model, Honor withdrew a box and opened it. Inside were several minicomps, complete with stylus. “I want you to break off into pairs. Each pair gets one minicomp to share. Using the information on your screens, I want you to find each of the locations listed. The systems will automatically update when you reach them. Once you’ve completed that, meet me below decks…and pick up some earplugs on the way down. You’ll stay in pairs for your target practice.”

A lopsided grin twitched at her lips as Nimitz leapt down from the nearby mast and landed in her arms. “Have at, ladies and gentlemen. I’ll see you below.” She turned, then paused. “Oh, and look out for the rats and weevils.”

Daniel smiled at his class as they assembled.

"Good afternoon. Today, we're looking at one specific event. It's Wednesday, April 8th, 1906. At 5.12am that morning, an earthquake hit San Francisco. Modern analysis estimates it registered 8.25 on the Richter scale."

Daniel dimmed the lights to show a short slideshow of pictures.

"The greatest destruction came from the fires the quake ignited. These ravaged the city for three days before burning themselves out. The maelstrom destroyed 490 city blocks, a total of 25,000 buildings, made over 250,000 homeless and killed between 450 and 700. Damage estimates topped $350,000,000."

"Today, I'd like for you to read through some eyewitness accounts to try and get a better idea about the whole atmosphere and tell me one fact that you learnt," said Daniel, before grinning and adding, "Not something I've just told you."

Today the class room is set up with gas stoves on each desk. The desks also have frying pans, spatulas in every version possible, small sharp knives and a cutting board. There's also a collection of food, just in case you were in doubt of what today's lesson is all about. About 36 eggs, chili, bacon, tomatos, olive oil, butter, green peppers, yellow peppers, red peppers, sausages, cheese, ham, pineapple, oranges and nacho chips.

Emma is standing in front of her desk. It looks a little like all she's wearing is a white apron. On either side of her are boxes. One is full of aprons, the other has recipe boxes.

"Good morning, students. Today we are going to make omelettes," Emma says, determined. She gestures towards the boxes. "Pick yourself an apron and a recipe box. You will use those today and then you will place them in the boxes you decorated last week."

As the students walk past her, she hands out a piece of paper.

When students entered the Danger Shop they found themselves standing outside a large slightly rundown house. John was waiting for them, leaning comfortably against the side of an old impala. Beside him was a table, with the sign in sheet as well as another list of names paired up. It was also piled high with knapsacks.

Welcome to our first practical class. )

When everyone had got their equipment and found their assigned partners. John grinned at them wolfishly. "So, who's first?"

Abby welcomed the students into the danger room by handing out lab coats and directing them to the lab. "Last week was excellent, I'm totally impressed by your work! Because you guys turned out to know more than I thought, I'm bumping up the lessons plans. Today we're going to be focusing on two techniques."

"We're going to be looking for leftovers today. Leftover blood and leftover residue from a gun." Abby gave a quick lecture on the history, chemical basics and uses of Luminol. She didn't really care if you were taking notes or not. "What you need to remember for today's class is 'wetter is better'. Don't skimp on spraying the solution. You don't want to let the bad guy get off because you were nervous about getting the drapes soggy. Once you've sprayed the solution, use the portable blacklights to determine whether or not there's a glow."

"Next we're going to test for gunshot residue." Abby grinned and held up a plastic arm off a mannequin. "This is Creepy Pete, the criminal. He's going to help you learn today, aren't you, Pete?" The hand didn't respond. Running through a history of the chemicals used and the methods employed to test for gunshot residue, Abby finished up by grabbing a tube and brush. "It's easy as pie. You brush on the activator and then hold the hand under a special light. Ta-da! Creepy Pete has been up to no good."

Abby rubbed her hands together excitedly and pointed towards the crime scene door. "Now for the fun part! Today's crime scene is a mystery that you need to solve. The police found young Sam, the victim of an apparent suicide. But there are some concerns." Abby led the way to the doorway so that the students could see the crime scene, a small bedroom with light blue walls, a desk and chair, carpeted floors. Then there was the bed where Sam Winchester lay, seemingly dead, one hand lying on his chest and the sheet beneath his head slick with dried blood.

"Now," Abby had allowed a few moments for the crime scene to sink before speaking. "The first officers on the scene found a gun in Sam's hand, just lying across his chest. Such a perfect placement like that after shooting yourself in the head seemed a little iffy and add the fact that there's no blood spatter on the bed and you've got a possibility that this case isn't as open and shut as it looks. Check out the room with the the luminol and then check out Sam for gunshot residue. Pick up your handouts and your tools from the lab and then get to work. Use the evidence to figure out what happened and then catch the bad guy."

When the students arrived, Mr. Noblet was nowhere to be found. The bell rang, and there was still no teacher.

There was, however, the sound of footsteps. Someone sprinting. The sound grew louder, and Mr. Noblet, red-faced and panting from exhaustion, entered the room. He closed the door behind him and leaned back on it. He gave the class a dismissive wave, and managed to say, “Be right…with you…”

He took a minute for his heart rate to get out of the danger zone, then grabbed his clipboard out of his suitcase. “I believe you had some homework assigned on the syllabus. Pull it out; let’s have a look.”

As he took attendance, Mr. Noblet checked everyone’s homework. Afterwards, he put his clipboard down and moved to the chalkboard, where he wrote

Columbus

Chuck Noblet turned to the class. “I want you to forget all that junk people keep trying to feed you about Norsemen or that red Viking getting here first. Ignore them. Those people are communists.

Columbus sailed to America with his fleet of ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the USS Titanic. One of these ships did not make it to America, as it crashed on an iceberg. I am referring, of course, to the Pinta.

It was Columbus’ dream to discover the new world, where he would be able to open an Italian restaurant, thus bringing civilization to foreign lands. Ironically, his success was a problem at the beginning. Upon Columbus’ landing, the Indians declared a national holiday, “Columbus Day”. Columbus was unable to reach a bank, and could thus not get the money to put down a deposit on the land he wanted. This, compounded with a series of other misfortunes, prevented Columbus from ever establishing his restaurant. The pain of a dream unfulfilled would haunt him ‘til his dying day.”

The next successful colony was established by the Pilgrims. To quote a foremost expert in American History: “Plymouth succeeded because its inhabitants did not come to the New World searching for glory, adventure, or hot man-on-Indian-action. Rather, the Pilgrims had come to escape religious persecution, to create a society where they could worship as they pleased and one day, God willing, do some persecuting of their own.”

Chuck looked at the class. “Any questions?”
