As soon as the class was settled the teacher appears in the requisite purple sparkling mushroom cloud of moaning skull shapes.

"Greetings students! I trust the intervening week has been a fruitful one! This week the knowledge I shall impart unto you is of the Somatic variety. I speak of course of mystical gesticulation!"

Doctor Orpheus is f'ing metal! )

"For today's exercise I would like you to pair up, practice some mudra, and discuss any gestures from your own cultures with mystical applications. If you can not find a partner, Mr. Dornez, Mr. Drake, or myself will assist you."

There was a table by the door with an informational handout for everyone to take as they came in. Logan was sitting on his desk again, the screens off, and he waited until everyone had taken their seats before beginning.

"So, like we began with the question last week, we're going to be delving a little into your personal relationships with media, using the format from a radio program called the 'Desert Island Discs'.

"Imagine you're a castaway on a desert island. Now imagine that you're allowed to take four pieces of music with you." He smiled slightly. "I realize that, for some people at least, your tastes are always changing, but this is just for the assignment, so try not to overthink it.

"In addition to the four pieces of music, you get to have one book - not counting the Bible or any of the works of Shakespeare - and one luxury item which has to be inanimate and have no practical use.

"That's the first part of the assignment. Go ahead and take a few minutes to write that down, get it on paper."

Logan let the class do that, getting himself a cup of coffee while he waited. After about fifteen minutes, he returned to the head of the class. "Okay, now we pair off. Find a classmate and trade lists. Once you've done that, take turns discussing items on your lists, why you made them, why they're important to you - I don't expect you to necessarily be familiar with what your classmate's choices are, but have an open mind, engage in some discussion here."

Precisely on time, Darth Vader swept into the room and slammed the door firmly behind him.

"Today we talk about lying," he said, his masked face scanning the faces in front of him as he prowled around the classroom.

"Everyone lies," he stated flatly. "To hide things, to manipulate others, to avoid...unpleasantness." There was a definite hint of scorn in his voice at that last example. "In class today, you are required to pair up and only tell the truth." His cape whirled behind him. "And I can tell if you are not. Such disobedience will result in detention."

He paused for a moment. "And I don't believe in that axiom where if you cannot say something nice, you don't say anything at all. I do not require you to be nice. I require you to be honest." He glanced down at the student roster. "If everyone comes to class today, there will be an odd number. That final person will be interrogated by me."

He crossed his arms over his chest, his mechanical breathing the only sound for a moment. "Name. Place of birth. Classes you are taking," he barked out. "Proceed from there."

"Morning Everyone!" Yondaime smiled brightly as he walked into class. "I hope everyone's first week has gone well. I still don't have the syllabus' ready for you, but I promise they will be in by the end of the week, I have something tentative but I'd like to discuss it further with all of you." The blond explained, as he sat down on the gym floor handing out the clip board with the sign in.

It was a short list, but it was a list nonetheless )

If Wilson was looking a wee sleepy as he slipped into the classroom well, it might have been due to the brief nap he caught in between the faculty meeting and class. Due to said meeting there was, unfortunately a lack of yummy baked goods for snacking.

Woe.

Setting his soft-sided briefcases up on the desk, Wilson turned and smiled at the class.

“Good morning everybody. I’d like to start out today’s class with saying how pleased I was with the creativity and cooperation you all showed in last week’s exercise. Some of you came up with ideas I hadn’t considered when I made up the exercise and I was delighted to see that sort of originality. Everyone and I do mean everyone, got top marks.”

Pulling the overhead projector films from his satchel, Wilson walked over to the projector and flipped it on.

“All right, let’s get started today. We’ve got a lot of material to cover.”

Monday, January 15, Period 2

The table in the center of the room was filled with breakfast pastries and hot drinks, there were stacks of books close at hand for the students to borrow for their readings assignments, and Aziraphale looked quite cheerful as he sat in his armchair and waited for the class to arrived.

"Good morning, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your first week of classes. Today we'll begin our discussion of the basic character archetypes found in fairy tales. Your assigned reading was Jack the Giant Killer and Molly Whuppie. Following the lecture, we'll discuss the central characters in these two stories, and how they fit into the roles of hero and villain."

LECTURE: "With a few exceptions, every fairy tale contains two central figures: the hero or heroine, and the villain. These characters can take many forms, from innocent child to clever thief, from evil stepmother to hungry wolf, but the central conflict of a fairy tale often evolves around the idea of the hero outwitting the villain. The hero may have a quest to fulfill, a puzzle to solve, or a difficult situation to escape. They may act out of self-defense, altruism, love, or necessity -- sometimes even out of greed or fear. Heros display a common set of characteristics -- in general, they are quick-witted, creative, and bold. Villains are not always evil, but are in general selfish and greedy, and usually act out of a desire to fulfill personal needs or an often baseless dislike of the hero."

DISCUSSION: "Take a look at the two stories from your assigned reading. Identify the hero and villain in each one, and then explain what motivates their actions. In your opinion, why is the villain villainous, and why does the hero act heroically?

"I would also like you to take a little time at the end of class to meet with the members of your project groups. I'll be expecting proposals for your final project in a few weeks, and I'll try to give you time during each class to meet with one another."

ASSIGNMENT: "For next week, read Mr Fox and John the True."

[ooc: For those who are new to Aziraphale's classes, there is always a spread of breakfast pastries and hot drinks, which you are free to mod. Also, the room is always arranged with comfortable chairs and couches for seating, rather than desks. Please wait for the OCD threads are now up, and class is in session.]

Rose was already in class, a steaming cup of tea on her desk.

There were photos of Galaxy Quest, James Bund, Space Battles, Barry Plodder, Mister What and Wendy the Werewolf Stalker on the blackboard.

As soon as the class was sitted, Rose began speaking:

"Here's the question, what do you think are the things in your century, in your time that becomes so popular it's become part of your language."

When the students have arrived, Captain Liberty gives them all a big smile. Last week's cardigan has been completely done away with. It was annoying and didn't go with the outfit.

"Welcome back! Today's going to be a pretty easy day, but don't think it's less important," she tells them. "Last week you took on superhero names. This week you're going to try to protect them. This is kind of an improv exercise, something you end up having to do a lot of in superhero work. Pair up. One of you will be the superhero keeping a mild-mannered and very ordinary facade going, and the other will play a close friend or family member who's just found something typing you to your superhero. Maybe they noticed that you look a lot alike, or hey, you didn't show up to your best friend's party because you were saving a train full of people or something. Do whatever you have to to keep your superheroness a secret, short of punching anyone because then I have to give detention. Be as creative as you want, and try to pair up with people you don't know. If you need help with anything, I'll be around, as will my TA, Princess Powerful. Have fun with it, guys."

[OCD is coming up.
So I'll be around a little tonight, and Tuesday until about 8:30 am PST. Not sure how long I'm working, but will pick up any pings when I get back.]
