Yomiko opened up the library right on time and encamped behind the desk with tea and The Aeneid.

In addition to the usual arrangement of tea and pastries, there is also a stack of handouts on the table, which Aziraphale draws attention to once the class is in session.

"Before we begin, I want to first give you some information regarding our upcoming field trip. These handouts include important details about our flights and hotel arrangements, so please be sure to read them, and let me know after class if you have any questions. I'll also need to know if any of you will not be able to join us for the trip."

As the students enter the room, they will notice that there are a number of listening stations set up along one side and a microphone and karaoke machine set up in the front.

Once everyone is present and seated, Lorelai grins.

"I hope you all had a great Fall Break. Thanks again to Marty for covering the last class, I hope you all learned something and had a good time. We're going to be switching gears away from television and covering music for the next few weeks before moving to books and movies. I'll also have information for you in the next week or so about your final projects."

She passes out a handout as she continues. "We're going to start with one of my personal favorite decades of music, the 80s. That's the 1980s for those of you from other times. In my personal opinion, nothing will ever come close to topping 80s music. Today, I want you to spend the first part of the class period listening to some 80s music at one of the listening stations. Then, you're each going to pick a song and perform for us! If there aren't any questions, let's get started."

"Buenos Dias, clase," El said as his students entered. "//I hope you all had a good break from me. I have your test scores here,//" he said, tapping the papers on his desk. "//And vocabulary sheets for you here. Today we're going to talk about what we did on our vacations, even if it was just sit around. In Spanish of course. I'll go first.//"

Mary stands in front of the students' desks as usuall as the children file in. The less usual thing about today is that the whiteboard, and much of the front of the classroom is blocked by very large, and very sad looking, dragon. Aside from being curled up and on the verge of tears, it looks like your classic Welsh Dragon. Except that he has two tails, and, instead of being red, is a deep twilight blue with sparkling dots and lines over various parts of his body. The pattern of these dots and lines might be familiar.

"Good afternoon. I trust you've all been over your handwavey delivered packets with vocabulary and information on Draconis noblis. Despite the obvious differences the physiology of most varieties of dragons are very similar to that of serpents, which we have already covered. So I will not repeat myself. I trust you all took good notes the first time." Mary explained. "Draconis noblis are found all over the world... Or rather not found but certainly known. There are many different varieties of dragon and they all communicate in an equally rich variety of ways. However, there is a common language known to all dragons, as dragons are common to all cultures. And that's what we'll be learning today."

"Traditionally, in the formal use of the language, Draconic is spoken in rhyming couplets. If you don't know what a 'couplet' is, please check your packet. It would be best to practice the formal structure, however, our guest speaker will not be insulted if you do not." Mary said, gesturing to the dragon behind her. At which point the creature gave a small sob.

Do you need a moment? )

[[ooc: please wait for OCD OPEN! Dragon's dialogue is from Chapter 7, "The Evening Out", of "Mary Poppins Comes Back" by P.L. Travers.]]

Das Schnitzel was manning the cafeteria today. Or rather, chickening. She had on her sunglasses and she didn't look like she was in the mood for questions. Why was she in such a bad mood? Probably because of the fact that the Chef fell down the stairs this morning and now thinks he's Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. And to make matters worse he's convinced several of the chickens to dress up as Mary Anne, Ginger, Mr. and Mrs. Howell and the Professor.

And to make matters even worse than that, he kept referring to Das Schnitzel as "The Skipper". She's got him locked up in the freezer right now but if a chicken wearing a lab coat comes up to you holding a radio made of coconuts, don't panic.

Today's Menu:

-Meatloaf

-Steak Fries...always soggy.

-Waldorf Salad

-Coconut Cream Pie made by...Mary Anne.

Logan looked refreshed and cheerful as he waited for everyone to arrive and pick up the handout for today on their way in. The coffee machine was on and the screen tuned to CNN for the current political news but muted - one probably wouldn't notice immediately that he had several pertinent webpages.

"Welcome back, guys," he greeted, smiling. "Hope you had a good break - I know I enjoyed mine."

He stood up, hooking a thumb at the screen as he looked over the students. "US election time is upon us, and though I know these races in particular may not affect you, it's still important to be aware, at least, that politicians wherever you're from will probably screw you over," he said ruefully.

"Maybe that's a bit pessimistic, you say?" Logan spread his hands, shrugging. "In my experience, it's become the job of the people to hold the government responsible for things they've done that have been reprehensible, sometimes only just irresponsible to the public they claim to work for. There are some individuals who are all they claim to be, working for the good of the people, but not nearly as many as anyone would like.

"As a part of the public - voting or non-voting - sometimes all you can do is raise awareness, make known what's going on so that people will be informed. Your assignment today is to come up with a way you could do that, either personally or something more general. Big or small."

[OOC: Wait for OCD plz. Thar be open class post. And hi, I suck? I blame [livejournal.com profile] courier_gavin in part for the lateness, but mostly it's just me and lj having disagreements.]

Laura stood at the front of the classroom, clad in her favorite blue suit. She smiled as students entered the room, slipping her glasses off. An impish gleam danced in her eyes as she regarded them. "We're only meeting for a few minutes today, so come in and take a seat so we can get going."

A few moments later, she brought the class to order. )

"And, on that somewhat heavy note, you're dismissed." The smile returned. "Feel free to sit and chat if you want; if you have any questions, or want to discuss the topic further, I'll be available for a little while, and I'll have regular office hours this Wednesday."

With that, she slipped her glasses back on and turned her attention to the items on the desk.

[OOC: Home sick, so I'll be around intermittently. Sign-in and discussion thread coming up.]

"Welcome back," Aeryn says once it looks like everyone's arrived. "Today we're going over something a little different. This is the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. It's a passenger plane from Earth, first put into production about fifty years ago, I think, and they're still commonly seen today. They can be controlled by one pilot, and hold up to three passengers. They are often privately-owned, and the fact that you can do that is the best thing I've heard about this planet."

Given a couple people in this club, Aeryn knows she probably should have gone with something space-based, but she really kind of hopes the thought of "you could be carrying three other people" will be enough incentive not to crash and die.

"I hope you guys enjoyed your break," said Daniel, as the class filed in. "Today, we're jumping right back into the fray and it's going to be a research lesson.

"We're looking at World War One, which was known as 'The war to end all wars.' As I'm sure you're all very aware, it didn't and one of the reasons why it wasn't is the Treaty of Versailles, which is something I want to add to the list of research topics you guys are looking at.

Causes and the start of the war (Blair)
Trench Warfare - Germans (Chad)
Trench Warfare - Allies (Hermione)
Naval Warfare (Dean)
Battle of the Marne (Broots)
Battle of Tannenberg (Sam)
Battle for Gallipoli (Lyra)
Battle of Verdun (Molly)
Battle of the Somme (Cameron)
America joining the war (Jim)
Treaty of Versailles (Evelyn)

"Any questions, just ask me."

"Good morning Fandom! This is your Vice Principal and Principal of Vices Hawkeye Pierce with the daily notices.

First of all, there's been an incident on the sixth floor. There's some damage up there, so please keep out while we make sure it's safe. The roof and fifth floor are still as safe as they'll ever be.

The lunch special today is probably not for human consumption, so the school nurse will have indigestion pills available all afternoon.

And a final note, there have been sightings of animate balloon animals around the island. Rumor has it they have political agendas. We're not entirely sure what they're trying to get you to vote for, but be sure to ignore their propoganda and report any incidents to your Congressman.

Have a hyperactive and hygienic day."
