Flight club. 4 pm, Flight Shed

"Welcome back," Aeryn says once it looks like everyone's arrived. "Today we're going over something a little different. This is the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. It's a passenger plane from Earth, first put into production about fifty years ago, I think, and they're still commonly seen today. They can be controlled by one pilot, and hold up to three passengers. They are often privately-owned, and the fact that you can do that is the best thing I've heard about this planet."

Given a couple people in this club, Aeryn knows she probably should have gone with something space-based, but she really kind of hopes the thought of "you could be carrying three other people" will be enough incentive not to crash and die.

Evie! Speed demon! Carnahan!

Evie looked desperately hopeful. "Please Aeryn? Please, please? Can I go first? And spin it?"

"Yes!" Evie does her little happy dance, then climbs into the simulator. "Thank you! Right!"

She's gotten familiar enough-- not good enough, but familiar enough-- to know how to do the pre-flight sequence. The Cessna's not as smooth as the space vehicles though.

So there's a lot of bumps before they get off the ground.

Wobbling, and with a few dips, the Cessna rapidly started to climb upward, with Evie muttering, "Yes, yes, like that, good plane, oh, lovely," the whole time.

"Oh, this is so fun!" She bounced. And the whole plane did a dip with her. "Ahem. Can I try the spin thing now? Blair suggested it."

Evie very, very carefully, like she saw in the movie of World War I aces at the Smithsonian, starts to. Spin. The. Plane.

They sort of get stuck upside down, though, because Evie's directional sense gets messed up. "Oh, oh, oh-- I don't know-- Okay. Okay. Um."

And then she tries to turn it back, and they *really* begin to spin.

"Ohhhhhhhh!"

Evie followed them very very carefully, and then stopped, panting. "Oh. Well. That was... much more fun to watch, than to do." She swallowed, then hiccuped. "Goodness." She looked a little green, by now.

"Mmmmmmno." Evie hiccuped again, and then said. "Yes?" The wings wobbled a bit. She took a deep breath. "Bad idea. I think I'm about to--" Evie looked around wildly for an in-flight vomit bag. "Ugh!"

Evie managed to restrain her yakking to a mouthful of bile and spit, then swallowed and says, "I'm... okay. Really I am." She coughed, then took control of the plane again.

Annnnnd misjudged the flight pattern. Again.

*CRASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH*

"...drat. I thought I was getting better at that..."

"Again." Evie sighed. "Do you mind if I don't try again this week? I'd really really like to figure out what I did wrong, but I'm feeling rather... odd."

Luke flipped through the pre-flight sequence relatively quickly and gave Aeryn a small smile. "I promise not to spin," he said.

"Yes," he said, suiting action to words and making the plane lift off. A few minutes of flying later he said, "I prefer it without the gravity."

Luke smiled and put the plane into a steep bank. "Most of my experience has been in gravity and my imagination," he admitted. "I just like the other one more."

Luke snorted. "That's because I realize that the ground is a bad thing to hit."

Naomi got into the simulator and waited.

Alec waited his turn patiently, except for where he made some pained and vaguely offended faces as the cessna crashed in a terrifically dramatic manner.
