Billy didn't look like he was back to normal just yet, sitting at his desk and leaning rather heavily on it. He waited until the class had assembled, and then looked out at them. "Morning, class. I hope you all enjoyed your unplanned break?" he smiled slightly.

"We aren't doing much today. I'd just like you all to pick what you'll be doing for your midterms; split off as you'd like, but groups can be no more than three, and pick a project out of a book and sign up for it, and start planning out how you're going to do it. If your project requires special materials, let me know and I'll try to get them for you - within reason, of course." Billy smiled again.

There were several books ((ooc: but that link, from what I looked at, is the only site you'll really need)) on the front of his desk for students to look through, and a signup sheet for picking out projects so that no two projects were the same.

"Oh, and by the way," Billy added, "if you do a volcano, I will fail you. Other than that...Conner, if you could be in charge of the signup list and make sure nobody doubles-up on projects?"

((ooc: I'm sorry for the rushed-ness of this; I'm packing madly for leaving early tomorrow morning for YCon. So...unfortunately, Billy's not really askable for anything. Ask TA?))

El was dressed... a little oddly today. Instead of his usual Mariach outfit, he was wearing a zoot suit. Complete with long coat, felt hat with feather, and chain.

Yes, it was all in black. He doesn't actually own clothes of any other color. There was also a scorpion on the back of his coat.

"Today, we're going to learn one of the great American dances. Swing. Now, there are many types of swing dance, but I want to focus on some of the most famous, including the Lindy Hop, the Charlston, and the Shag. After all, we can't do everything. Most of us are only human."

El gave a short lecture on the history of swing dance.

"Normally, I would demonstrate with Nadia the steps, but I'm afraid my adventure on the mainland over the weekend has left me injured, and I don't want to hurt it further. So instead, I have a few videos you can watch and try to get the idea. If you need more one and one help, Nadia and I are here, as always."

El walked over to his guitar case, kicked it open and pulled out...

A CD case.

"Today, instead of me playing for you, which would be a bit absurd for swing, we will be listening to the music of one of the greatest Hispanic musicians who ever lived. Lalo Guerro."

Rory smiles as she opens the library, and is actually kind of awake-ish for the first time in a long while.

There were fresh fruits, melons, cheese, tea and cider for the students today. Wilson stood at the front of the desk, arms folded akimbo as he waited for everyone to come in and take their seats.

“Good morning,” he started.

“First off the bad news. I am not going to be giving back your tests today. This is because over half the class missed the test last week and while a few people have contacted me and provided for a full make up test, there are a few who have not contacted me at this time.”

He did not seem pleased.

“For those of you who contacted me with your handwavey excuse, please seem me after class to schedule your make up test between now and next Wednesdays. For those of you who have not contacted me with a handwavey excuse, you will also need to talk with me after class for the make up. The difference being, you will be docked half the points on the test to begin with.”

Exhaling he reached for his tea, this was obviously not something he’d looked forward to announcing.

“To avoid confusion, I will need to see the following students after class. Alanna, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Lyra Belacqua.” He had already spoken to Agnes Nitt.

Setting the tea down, Wilson moved towards the overhead projector.

As the students filed in, Honor was seated on the front edge of the desk, her feet almost touching the ground. Nimitz sprawled out on the desk behind her, enjoying an impromptu and very cat-like nap. This was a discussion he'd heard several times before, being around Honor, Hamish, and Willie as much as he had been. Glancing back over her shoulder at the treecat, Honor shook her head.

The timeline from previous classes was back on the board again today, listing all the authors and documents they had reviewed together thus far. Additionally, two terms were scrawled under the timeline in the appropriate place: self determination of nations and nationalism. They were, ironically, just centimeters away from "Jefferson/Continental Congress" and "Declaration of Independence."

"Come in and have a seat. We'll be starting soon." Her eyes flitted to the clock. As soon as the second hand ticked to the proper time, she began speaking.

"Our previous discussions have covered the 'acceptable' reasons for warfare, relevant to the times they were written. I should have, perhaps, devoted a class period to discuss Enlightenment thinking, philosophies which weighed heavily on Jefferson and the other authors of the Declaration of Independence; they are key to understanding the emergence of an 'American' mindset and questioning the treatment of the colonies by England. We haven't done that, however. The good news is that, in our previous discussions, many of you have already shown a familiarity with at least some of the basic concepts.

"So, for today, I asked you to review the Declaration and come up with questions for discussion. Who will volunteer to go first?"

She watched the class expectantly until someone ventured a hand. It wasn't quite like pulling teeth, she thought, but it was close. The discussion continued through the class period, with a few comments of her own. As the end of class approached, however, she wrapped things up.

"Okay, next week, we'll be jumping forward about two hundred years and discussing the end of World War II and the Cold War. Please come prepared for discussion." She gave a smile. "Dismissed."

Ms Frizzle's outfit today was a cute little sundress adorned with waves and anchors and flags and various picturesque bits of boats. Instead of her usual pumps, she was in flip-flops adorned with a wee beachball on each foot.

"Today, class," she trilled, "Field trip time! We're going to be going to the beach! Now, I've asked Liz to find me two beach things that are related. Liz?"

Liz rather sheepishly scrambled up onto the lab bench and held up the tuna sandwich from Ms Frizzle's lunch and shook herself. She looked like she had fallen in a pond in her scramble to find something for class, with green pond scum sticking to her wee lizardy tail.

"Wonderful!" Ms Frizzle said brightly, picking Liz up and tucking her in the crook of her arm. "Perfect examples!" The lizard looked bewildered. Ms Frizzle looked like she was about to go on, but she was interrupted by a loud beep. "Alright, class! Time for our field trip! Everyone to the bus!"

[[Don't know how much I'll be around. I am currently displaying five of the seven symptoms of the virus that's shutting down campus, but not the two major ones that scream 'Norwalk'. Wait for the OCD. Get messy, etc.!]]

Rory was curled up on the couch in the back as per usual, and tapping away on her laptop.

She was available for questions, answers, and any bribes anyone had brought their editor, and of course there was coffee and baked goods.
