401--5th period

Webpages. I came up with some cash, so you can have whatever domain you want. If you don't know how to make one, I'm going to handwavily cover it with these handy resouces I got from, where esle, a web page.

Start making notes as tot he content you want on your site.

[[We're going to be doing this for a couple weeks, at the end you will find a wonderful weird website and pass it off as your own. Just here. Not everywhere. Have some fun with this!]]

Parker hasn't actually slept. She's been mainlining coffee since she got in last night, and she may not be feeling all that cheerful or helpful.

That said, the Library is open for all your research and study needs.

The announcements are late today, in the middle of third period. Zordon has been playing Donkey Kong all weekend and he's only just finally stopped.

"Good morning, and welcome to another week in which we will endeavor to not be blown up, immolated, or possibly have the island stomped to tiny pieces by giant monsters. All students are advised to contact myself or Doctor Oliver immediately if any of the fossils on display in the science lab begin talking to them. Thank you."

Josh had a stack of papers in front of him and a wicked gleam in his eyes. "As promised," he said, "a test on the Civil War."

Oh, he's so mean... )

Tommy? Is a little distracted today, thanks to a run-in with a certain someone at the bakery yesterday. As such... he forgot to, well, finish writing his lesson plan.

"Discussion period today," Tommy says. "Any questions about anything we've covered?"

Sociology of Violence

Grissom is in a phenomenally grumpy mood, which is not exactly rare, but it is exceedingly noticeable. So if you want to get thrown into detention, it wouldn't take much today. He's moody, yo.

He directs the class next door into the A/V lab, and screens Das Experiment, as he can't exactly recreate the Standford Prison Experiment in the Danger Shop even if that would be all kinds of wrong and awesome.

"Your assignment for Wednesday is an essay based on this concept. You are to select two of your fellow students, and write an essay in which one of them is assigned as a guard, and one as a prisoner. I want a realistic analysis of what you believe would occur in that scenario. You're dismissed."

Sociology of the Paranormal

As they didn't get to report on their homework during the last handwaved class, Grissom sets up the desks in the lab to allow his students ease in fulfilling their assignment.

"I'd like you to state what your topic was, and why you chose it, before you present any other relative data or analysis."

Camulus was looking a little wild-eyed. As if a horde of miniature mammoth-like creatures had infested his apartment and ate through half of his books, as well as attempting to nest in his sarcophagus. Not that they necessarily had, he just looked that way.

"Madainn mhath, a chlas," he began. "The Fianna. As I said before, while Fionn was their leader, they were not named for him. They were an elite group of warriors and it was extremely difficult to join their ranks. I had planned a few practical demonstrations of the Fianna trials, but I'm sure the administration wouldn't appreciate seriously maiming my students. Even in the pursuit of knowledge." Camulus looks very disgruntled at this fact. He goes on to the describe the maxims and trials of the Fianna, writing notes up on the board.

"Now, the chief warriors of the Fianna were the following men, each great in their deeds and so on. I'd like each of you to read up on a member of the Fianna from this list and give a short oral presentation next class. I'll cover whichever ones are left out, let me know who you are researching before you leave."

He wrote the list of names up on the board.

Caoilte mac Ronan
Goll mac Morna
Conan mac Morna - more commonly known as Conan Maol or Conan the Bald
Oisin mac Fionn
Oscar mac Oisin

"Diarmaid ui Duibhne was also one of the major Fenian warriors, but we've already covered his particular story."

"Next week, guys, it's quiz time. This week? Magical traditions. So read, pick one, and tell me what you think of it. If there are any you're particularly interested in, bring 'em up and we'll cover them in more detail on Wednesday."

"All right, guys, some of you were gone during the section on mythology," said Jenny. "So it's going to be an easy day for those of you that picked myths to write your final papers on. But for those of you that haven't yet, hit www.godchecker.com, and pick out two myths--either similar or contrasting--to analyze according to Jungian principles. And let me know why you picked the ones you did." Jenny smiled. "Oh, and next week? Quiz."

OOC: And this does actually lead up to the class' 'final project,' so while this isn't required, it would be fun to see what you picked and why.

"All right, guys, it's getting on towards the end of the term," said Jenny. "Don't cheer too much, but we're gearing up to our final projects. Relieved? I've got some information on my desk about psychological experiments. I want you to review them, and come up with a short handwavey if you want to do it that way proposal for a safe, ethical experiment of your own. One which you are in no way required to roleplay outside of class time if you don't want to, but people had fun with that last semester." Jenny grinned. "This is the easy part--give me the proposal. And guys, next week, we're going to have a quiz. Fair warning, right?"

"Okay, same idea as last time, only with the weapons you like. Switch off in your pairs on whose favorites you use."

"We're going to start looking at social organizations. Let me talk for a few minutes, and then we can discuss some of the points raised and how they relate to you.

Social organization introduction )

"Okay, potential discussion points. Social ostracism; can you think of any examples? For me, it involves the social organization of academia and I was essentially ostracised for unpopular academic theories involving aliens. What about substitutes? Have you ever had to seek any in place in human contact? Where do you think you'd go if you did? I have books. Lots of books. And my girlfriend's told me off for that..." Daniel trailed off and blushed slightly.

A cough. "Okay, social groups. We're all part of Fandom High and of the greater community of Fandom Island. You're both part of your families; my family is more by adoption by blood. Any other groups you belong to, or have belonged to, or plan to belong to later in life? What functions do they serve? How do they adjust behavior? How does group identity work?"

He looked at his two students. "Let's discuss."

[[ooc: Sorry about this being so late - dad's birthday. Any spelling mistakes or just general mistakes, blame on the two and half glasses of Rose and the glass and a half of champagne! *g*]]
