Sociology of Violence

Grissom is in a phenomenally grumpy mood, which is not exactly rare, but it is exceedingly noticeable. ~~So if you want to get thrown into detention, it wouldn't take much today. He's moody, yo.~~

He directs the class next door into the A/V lab, and screens Das Experiment, as he can't exactly recreate the Standford Prison Experiment in the Danger Shop ~~even if that would be all kinds of wrong and awesome.~~

"Your assignment for Wednesday is an essay based on this concept. You are to select two of your fellow students, and write an essay in which one of them is assigned as a guard, and one as a prisoner. I want a realistic analysis of what you believe would occur in that scenario. You're dismissed."

Sociology of the Paranormal

As they didn't get to report on their homework during the last ~~handwaved~~ class, Grissom sets up the desks in the lab to allow his students ease in fulfilling their assignment.

"I'd like you to state what your topic was, and why you chose it, before you present any other relative data or analysis."

Phoebe talks about the Woogy.

Jaye's here. And she babbles on and on and on about that Bloody Mary character who scratches people through mirrors when you're stupid enough to say her name three times.

Lana talks about the ghost who supposedly haunts a restaurant (http://www.hollowhill.com/nh/nh.htm) in New Hampshire.

Lyta shared the story of the Day of the Dead which she had heard aboard the station.

Stark talked about how he ~~sees dead people? nah.~~ heard the voice of a dead blue plant (who is now alive and well and living in Fandom) talking to him a while back.

What a grumpy-butt.

CJ walks in, since he invited her and in many ways she's worse than a vampire what with the beetle paste and cracker demolition and all, and she starts pawing through both the kitchenette and Gil and Lorelai's office searching for antacids. What kind of pregnant woman wouldn't have a secret stash?

"Hey, Gil." she says with a smile, clearly on a mission.

He barely registers her entrance, lost in his own thoughts for a moment and obviously not disturbed by her presence. It's not until CJ's done raiding the kitchenette and has made it back into the office on her mission does Gil start to pay attention to her actions, at first associating the rustling noises to his dog, until he feels her tail thump against his legs under his desk. He then looks up and sees CJ looking around furtively.

"Uhhh, sorry, CJ -- I was -- can I help you? You didn't get locked in any rooms without food or drink over the weekend, did you?"

That he doesn't notice right away doesn't phase her since it's SOP at the White House. Besides, didn't mean to bother him...if that had been the case she would have sat on his desk. She looks up and starts to smile, but covers her mouth. "German food in the lounge. I need an antacid. Lorelai has to have some, right?"

"Oh, sure," he mutters as he quickly pulls open the top drawer of his desk closest to her.

"Take your pick. Pregnant fiancee, pregnant office mate... I've learned to be well supplied in all things gastro-intestinal."

He doesn't say 'are you going to throw up?' as he has learned his lesson that that guarantees an answer of yes. Instead, his gaze skirts around the floor for his trash can.

"Fabulous. Now that I'm over for...teen I guess I can't eat bratwurst and sauerkraut like a, uh, teenager."

She pops three and chews as she peers at him.

"Bee in your bonnet, Gil?"

"You know, bees aren't..."

He stops, and sighs a little, putting on a rather weak game face. "Miss your teenage body that much? I wouldn't mind getting back my body at thirty or so, but I don't think I could be paid to be seventeen again."

"Not really. Just wish I could still eat junk and get away with it. The bee thing is just an expression, Gil. You're off your game. Anything I can do?"

He gives her an odd expression. "I'm fine," he says softly, bending down to pull the dog at his feet into his lap to keep her from making strange banging noises under his desk.

"I..." he looks distinctly uncomfortable. "Can I ask you a personal question?"

"Always, Gil. I've got nothing to hide. Not really."

She sucks at her teeth to retrieve the precious calcium somethingorother and leans in toward him.

"What's up?"

"I'm not accustomed to this," he says, because he should seriously come with a decoder ring.

He lays his hands on his desk and looks at her rather blankly. "There aren't any available walls for me to sledgehammer."

She leans forward, covering her lips with her fingertips, her eyes telegraphing the utmost sympathy.

"I thought you were going with her..."

Fortunately she's talked to him enough, she's kind of like a decoder ring all by herself.

"As soon as I can..."

He catches her gaze, and purses his lips in silent acknowledgment.

"It's... my wife," the word falls off of his tongue even though it's technically not true, "and my child. They're my family, and I'm not with them. And I promised myself, I promised her. It hasn't even been a week, but I wonder what the hell I'm doing. What kind of..."

Gil freezes up, and shakes his head. "I apologize. Umm, how are you feeling? Antacids helping? I have some bismuth liquid in the fridge, I believe."

"What kind of husband and father you are if you let her go off without you. Right? Listen, Gil...we do what we have to when we have to. All you need to know is this is temporary. You and Sara will be together and raise your family. You also need to know babies come with hats. Toby would insist I tell you that. Other than that?"

She shrugs before grabbing the bottle and shaking out two more, "You're a good guy, Gil. You're doing your job. You'll be great where it counts. You'll be a good father."

He smiles, accepting what she has to say in the moment, but unable to express his gratitude.

"Would a little Cubs hat be acceptable? I wonder if they manufacture them in infant sizes."

"Tell you what. You get the kid a Cubs hat, I'll pitch in for a Cubs shirt. You'll a fan~~dom~~ baby."

She gives him a quick, and totally innocent, smile. "You know...I'm sure we could find something to sledgehammer if you really need to. Adam's office might need a remodel...don't you think?"

He smirks. "With, or without, his permission?"

[I so have to update that map. Heh.]

She nearly laughs as she looks up sideways, "We could call it a surpise present for his birthday? I mean, why ask him and spoil the fun?"

"I have two questions. One, is his birthday actually this time of year? Two, what kind of renovations are we talking about?"

"It...might be. Um, yeah. Or I could have missed it. Or, ooh, Easter gift!"

She almost laughs, then looks at him totally serious.

"Don't ask me that. You're the one who said you didn't have a wall. I'm leaving it up to you. If I didn't, the poor guy would wind up with his furniture glued to the ceiling."

"CJ!" he admonishes, only not really because he's laughing now as well.

"I suppose it's too late to do that," he adds, kicking himself that he missed April Fools Day. Oh, the fun they could have had.

"He does share a wall with the ladies room."

She nods conspiratorially, "We'd have to be careful of the plumbing, wouldn't we?"
