Room for Rent

I currently live Off Campus in a lovely home that has all the usual conveniences found in this place, so I am told. I would be happy to have a roommate to share it with. I am relatively close to Campus and there is a very large garden and many trees and several acres of land. There is a library and 'rec room' (whatever that is) and you will have your own private bath. There is this thing, 'hot tub' and many other nice things as well. My Father is quite generous when he remembers to be.

Please respond here if you are interested. I keep strange hours, but all replies will be responded to, eventually, I promise.

I am happy to have male or female roommates, and the rent will be reasonable.

Thank you kindly.

Welcome to Advanced Theory: Origins (3 to 6 PM EST), and Adanced Theory: Literature and Art (7 to 10 EST). I hope that some of you got started on the reading, but this week it is excusable if you did not. Remember to get some dinner between classes if you are doubling both Origins and Literature and Arts, I will not accept students sleeping in the class.

Please continue to introduce yourselves to the rest of your classmates here or in this class time. [OOC: ALL MATHEMATICS COURSES WILL RUN ON SLOW TIME.] You may use the readings as a conversation starter if you choose.

All Advanced Theory students are highly recommended to find one or more partners to discuss material and work throughout the rest of the year. The sooner you can acclimate to a certain person, the better.

You will recieve your syllabi later this day.

For the record

Any of my students who have to write for other classes can resubmit homework to me for extra credit as long as it meets the requirements for the homework submission for Journalism 101. That is, an essay of 100 words.

For those of you unclear on exactly what I mean by that, I mean precisely 100 words - no more, no less.

Reyes? I will accept 'Dude' as a single word from you if you need to fiddle with your word count. I've heard you talk and it's allowable as a signature sort of thing. Journalism can sometimes be treated as direct address - your mouth to God's ear - and I'm feeling permissive.

No one else gets to pull that, however. I'm only a benevolent tyrant when it suits me.

There is a note taped to the door of the Classroom.

"Assistant.

At 2 am when I went to catch a shower, I received a singularly rude awakening by an invasive tentacle. Being somewhat choosy about these things, I've taken a flamethrower and gone to the basement to make my displeasure known.

Take attendance. Turn on the feeds - they're voice activated and currently only respond to you, me and the principal. Make 'em pick a topic, choose sides and argue about it - the more emotional the better. Class can end as soon as one side capitulates or the minute violence breaks out - whichever comes first.

First person to resort to physical violence, however provoked, gets detention. Use your discretion as to whether or not the provokee deserves detention as well. I'll sign the slip when I get back.

If an article doesn't appear in my journal by midnight tonight, write an obituary and send it to Royce at the City Editor's Desk at the Word. All the information is on my personal laptop and the password is taped to the back of the door into my quarters. The system will let you in.

... and find out where the hell my interns are. I could have used someone to carry the damn flamethrower.

P.S. And if you aren't supposed to be in class today, find an intern and make them do it. You'll still have to turn on the feeds, though."

Biology

Today in Biology, we will be reviewing the syllabus and going over introductory material. If you have not acquired the textbooks, I strongly suggest that you do so.

Like Geology and Physics, the experiments and projects we will be doing require that you have a lab partner. Feel free to pair up with a friend or a stranger, whatever floats your boat.

Please don't forget to sign the roll sheet before you leave.

And while I am thinking about it, I would like you each to turn in a list of your known phobias. I'm not as sadistic as some of my college professors and I won't set out to deliberately humiliate you.

Study Hall

Study hall for this Thursday is now open.

Quick warning -- Biff has apparently disappeared from in front of the teachers's lounge. If anybody spots her, I'd suggest running in the opposite direction.

Shooting at her will only annoy her and cause her to swipe at any loose appendages. Trust me, I say that from experience. *Ms. Connor grimaces as she finishes dressing a wound on her arm*

Even though what good judgment she sometimes possessed was screaming at her not to do this, Phoebe was on her way to meet Belthazor. He claimed that he could take her to Paris and she was wondering what would happen when he couldn't fulfill his promise.

She shook her head, laughing at herself that she was actually going to meet the boy who could weave such wonderfully pretty lies...but he was drop dead gorgeous so she'd forgive him when he couldn't take the two of them to Paris.

She brushed a strand of hair back behind her ear and sat down on one of the benches where she had agreed to meet up with him.

I understand we have some scheduling problems in here. I tell ya what...if you work diligently and talk to me directly if you feel you're falling behind, those of you in Padme's class can leave at quarter til. The rest of us will do body shots finish up any work and talk about what problems or questions have come up.

Good morning and welcome to languages. I am Morpheus, Dream of the Endless. You may call me Dream.

Today I would like for us to get to know each other and talk about why we're here. Please take a few minutes to read the syllabus--if you have any questions about it, now's the time to ask. Then let's go around the room and introduce ourselves. Please also state why you're taking this class.

[ooc: Same deal as yesterday: one post for all language classes, separate comment groups for each. Probably won't be able to participate much during the day again. Yay working for a living.]

Trescothick is out. 82 for 1.

My Lifestyle seminars are now fully booked. I ended up with thirteen students rather than twelve, but I'm sure that'll be fine.

My students are these: [livejournal.com profile] caroline_todd, [livejournal.com profile] _steele_, [livejournal.com profile] lauraholt, [livejournal.com profile] neptune_wallace, [livejournal.com profile] pure_blooddraco, [livejournal.com profile] rory__gilmore, [livejournal.com profile] _fleurdelacour, [livejournal.com profile] rosefern_todd, [livejournal.com profile] ___lily_evans_, [livejournal.com profile] comewillingly, [livejournal.com profile] magitekboy, [livejournal.com profile] deirdreofamber and [livejournal.com profile] ihatedenmark.

It looks like our first topic is going to be cheese.

Could all the students write a hundred words on ways in which their lifestyle has been affected by cheese, or how they could use cheese to improve their lives, and leave their work here?

They'll form the basis of discussion when we hold the seminar itself on Monday.

Next Friday, September 16th, I am cancelling Physics and the open labs. That day is my birthday and I'd rather not celebrate it by drinking myself into a stupor.

Giving me gifts and/or cards will not ensure passing grades. Might put you in my good graces though.

Science Club

Thursday, September 8th, 2005 01:27 pm
[identity profile] lisacuddy.livejournal.com
Is anyone interested in a Science Club? Membership would be open to all students, whether they are enrolled in the sciences here or if they have an interest in participating.

The main purpose of the club would be to organize and execute a Science Fair at the end of the semester, although other projects could be discussed once there is a membership.

Ms. Sidle has agreed to let us use some of the equipment in the science lab, as long as we stay out of the way of her students and follow all lab rules.

Express your interest here )

Fencing Club

The Fencing Club will concentrate on both Eastern and Western forms of swordfighting. Weapons and padding with both be provided, if you chose to bring your own weapon you may or may not be permitted to use it.

This humble one is looking for a co-captain for the fencing team, one who is preferably skilled in the Western style of the sport. The Eastern side of things is already covered.

Registration for the Fencing Club will run through next Friday, September 16th. If for some reason you missed my initial posting, please sign this paper.

Unless Sidle-sensei has changed her mind, [livejournal.com profile] equalsmcsquared will be the faculty sponsor.

This is primarily a sword-fighting club ... we may expand to other weapons if there are enough interested, but there would probably be need of another co-captain then. Let us stick to sword-fighting, at least for this semester.

Ugh! Bored! Bored now!

Class doesn't start 'til six, none of the cute guys will talk to me, and while Ms. Padme is setting up a *sweet* ship for the flight club, it's not here yet.

Hmmm... no reason not to get a quick peek in there... knowledge is always valuable and we're here to learn, right?

All right folks.

At this point, there are six of you in the class and you'll be working in pairs. I may allow one more pair to join the class.

First week assignment is to pair up and decide what kind of mock business you want to start.

I know that [livejournal.com profile] kinneybrian and [livejournal.com profile] taylorjustin said they want to work together.

[livejournal.com profile] the4thsister mentioned possibly working with [livejournal.com profile] cookinggeek because they live together - are you two going to do that?

That would leave [livejournal.com profile] aka_vala and [livejournal.com profile] veronicamars1 as partners.

I'll work on the assumption that this is going to be the case and you let me know if anything changes. You can have this class time to decide what type of business you want to run (restaurant, inn, PR firm, factory, whatever) and figure out a name. Remember that your name says a lot about you and sometimes a name can make or break you.

Names can also have brand recognition - My inn, for example, is called The Dragonfly Inn - and, consequently, we use a dragonfly logo on as much as possible. Keep these things in mind when deciding on a name.

Next week, we'll talk about getting start up capital for your business.

Sir,

When you get a few moments, I'd like to talk to you.

No, I am not even thinking of quitting. I just have some questions for you.

Also, how hard would it be to requisition some cell phones for the three of us? In talking to Alex, I realized that it would be a good idea for at least the three of us to have a way to get ahold of each other. It would also make life remarkably easier on you because you could call me with your orders instead of worrying about leaving me notes.
