Cutter was very distracted and subdued as he stood in front of the class, the weekend and everything happening with Christine taking a heavy toll and he had been tempted to just cancel class this week but he knew that in a way that would be giving Christine what she wanted, to take everything from Cutter including his life in Fandom and he wasn’t going to give up that easily.

“Welcome back,” he said tiredly, “this week we’re going to be looking at the Phorusrhacos, which were a species of flightless terror birds that lived in Argentina during the Miocene Epoch, which is a period that extends to 23 to 5 million years ago,” he began, “it was also one of the dominant land predators in South America and it is thought to have lived in the woodlands and grasslands,” he nodded over at Connor with a small smile to continue the lecture.

Connor was feeling it too, that heavy distracted weight he couldn't shake. Christine was really putting pressure on them and he felt like just hiding away in the flat, but knew Cutter was right. That would be giving her what she wanted, and so he smiled and started with his part of the lecture for class.

The Phorusrhacos had a skull nearly 65 centimetres (26 in) long, stood nearly 2.4 to 2.7 meters (7 ft 10 in, to 8 ft 10 in) tall, and probably weighed nearly 130 kilograms (290 lb). The closest comparison we have to a creature living today is the ostrich as far as size goes, but the terror bird what much more aggressive. The terror bird had very strong legs, capable of running at high speed, stubby, flightless wings, a long neck, and a proportionately large head. This ended in a huge, hooked beak that could tear through flesh easily, or stab into prey. The lower jaw was smaller than the upper jaw. There were three toes on each of the feet, all of which were armed with sharp claws. Phorusrhacos could chase down large prey and it is believed they hunted in packs as well, making them apex predators for their time.” Connor finished and looked back at Cutter with a small nod.

“For the rest of the class I’d like you to complete your worksheets and your report,” Cutter added, “and if you have any questions, myself and Mr. Temple will be happy to help,”

There was no class in the park by the duck pond underneath the tree that morning, but there was tea! And soft cushions strewn about in front of a screen in the indoor space to which they'd been relocated to that day, as well as a variety of popcorn and other snacks.

"In an effort to avoid having our lovely laziness being rained upon today," said Shunsui, with a nod of his head, a tilt of his hat, a gesture toward the awaiting cushions and teapot, "we have relocated indoors, which is perfect for a very important lesson in laziness, especially for those of us who are or may one day be fellow teachers or Captains ♥. It is a time-honored tradition to occasionally let yourself be incredibly lazy in not putting together an elaborate lesson or even a simple one, and indugling a bit in a movie day ♥. Why, in fact, some people will make entire classes out of the concept ♥!"

He gave a bit of a sardonic smile at that, although whether he was being truly petty with that statement or admiring, it was almost impossible to tell.

"So we'll be having our own movie day today," he continued, "one with a protagonist who truly embodies the spirit of laziness, and the trials and tribulations of navigating through a world with other ideas. So get comfortable, have some treats, enjoy and pontificate laziness, but, of course, no need to worry about a discussion, as that would seem rather counterintuitive, neh ♥? Let's begin."

There were no fireworks today. Sam had checked. Repeatedly.

There were no mice today. Sam had checked. Repeatedly.

There was, however, a model plane flying around the room of its own accord. Sam was trying to ignore it. Sam was not very good at ignoring weirdness.

"Today we shall discuss travel!" Sam said at precisely the appointed time, as always.

"It is extremely important to not be weird while traveling. Other people have to deal with you and they are unable to escape!"

Hear that, Beaker? Remember that next time there was a work trip!

"When traveling by plane, for example, you must dress appropriately! You must leave your shoes on if you are the sort of person who wears shoes! You must not eat anything that smells strongly! You must stay in your own seat and not steal the space of your neighbor no matter how small and uncomfortable the space may be! If you wanted more space you should have flown first class!"

Very helpful advice, Sam, really.

"Of course if you are traveling by train you will have more space and it will be more civilized! Should you be forced to travel by bus..."

Sam shuddered.

"Buses are populated by weirdos and are best avoided!"

Today's class was being held in the Danger Shop, which looked like the cockpit of a suitably decrepit 'used future' space ship. Wonder of wonders, both your teachers were there.

"So we've covered being a sea pirate." Had you Aphra, had you? "So lets talk about being a space pirate. Which is honestly a lot like the first, but you know, with the unforgiving vacuum of space instead of a nice ocean."

"Which is really just proof that my kind of piracy is better," Isabela added.

Aphra looked like she was about to come up with some kind of cutting rejoinder to that when the ship rocked. "And it looks like we're being attacked by the law," she said. "But they're a fascist space empire so don't feel bad about fighting them. Battlestations!"

A pause.

"By which I mean the gun controls! Over there! They're marked!" In Aurebesh.
