"Good morning," Ignis nodded to the class once it looked like everyone had arrived and looked ready at their cooking station to get started on another Friday morning of cooking and taking pictures. "In this class so far, we've been mostly doing main dishes, so today, we'll be mixing it up with a little bit of baking and making a dessert. It is a fairly simple one, I hope, and honestly a personal favorite of mine, and that would be a fluffy chiffon cake. Meanwhile, the cake itself, visually, is very basic. It's appearance is far more subtle than its flavors. Which means that you will all have the opportunity to get a little creative in your plating when we get to the photography part of things. I myself like to pair it with a small scoop of a simple, homemade whipped cream, which we will also go over how to make because it makes for an exceptional accompaniment, but, of course, you may pair it with whatever you like, suited to your own tastes or aesthetics."

He gave a small smile, before pushing up his glasses, adjusting the cuffs of his jacket.

"Now, then, if there aren't any questions, let's begin."

Friday meant cupcake class and that meant Stark was waiting in the Home Ec room once more for any students to arrive.

“Only one class left after this one,” Stark said. The second summer session had gone by so quickly. Maybe because he’d spent a good chunk of it in a hole?

“This week I was looking for something different and found lots of recipes with nuts in them. So I thought you could do that. Cupcakes with nuts.” He opened the box on the counter and started pulling out containers. “I have peanut butter and peanuts and Nutella and hazelnuts and walnuts and pecans and macadamia nuts and coconut. And everything else you might need for the recipes I have today.”

Honey Hazelnut Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting
Maple Walnut Cupcakes
Peanut Butter Cupcakes
Butter Pecan Cupcakes
White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cupcakes
Coconut Cupcakes

“I can help, if you need it. Or want it.” Even if he was a little preoccupied today with baking something of his own this week that wasn’t one of the provided recipes.

It was just Tony there when class started as Steve was busy with something with his team. But that didn't mean the class would get any easier!

"So, since Steve isn't here, I thought we could go back to testing some more of those traps."

TONY, NO.

"It'll be fun," he promised, pointing over toward where various boxes were set up for cover and there were a good number of terrible, terrible paint traps that you could try springing on your classmates.

"There aren't many philosophical thought experiments that get as much airtime as Plato's allegory of the cave," Ender said. "For the few of you who might not have been exposed to it - Plato ascribes to his mentor Socrates a story about a group of prisoners, chained to the wall in a cave. They can only see the wall in front of them. Behind them, there's a fire, and behind the fire, men and women pass by bearing figurines. But because of where they're trapped, the prisoners can only see the shadows. The shadows, then, are reality to them - only by leaving the cave would they be able to discover the truth behind the shadows, the perfect forms."

He sat back.

"Plato believed strongly in this theory of Forms," he said. "Everything we known and see, every object and every idea, is but an imperfect shadow of something greater, something pure and abstract."

He took a swig of water. "We won't be too concerned with Plato today, or at least his ideas," he said, "but we can use some of his vocabulary to talk about the subjectivity of our experiences and our worldviews. After all, Plato wanted to believe badly in some perfect world above our own - some solid truth that could not be seen in any other light."

His mouth curved. "Nothing like Wednesday," he said dryly. "Because even when we speak the truth, we still speak our reflection of the truth, not the reality of it.

"We live in a world where most are predisposed to investing in some kind of doctrine. Whether it be the religion you believe in or the morals you hold dear, there are some things we don't seek to question. Most of us like to believe that there really are perfect Forms of some capacity - abstracts that, when achieved, would bring perfection."

His mouth curved. "Of course, I don't need to tell you that isn't necessarily true," he said. "But there's a difference between knowing that and practicing it. So today, I'd like to pose you all a challenge - what's something you believe in that you've never really thought to question? Maybe it's something that informs the way you look at the people around you. Maybe it's something about how you feel about yourself. You don't need to denounce whatever it is that this is - I just ask you to find something you've never felt needed questioning."
